To think throwing milkshakes over people is disgusting?

So apparently it’s okay to chuck milkshakes over people we disagree with?

Now, I do not like Tommy Robinson, Carl Sargon, or Farage. However, I think that chucking cold food at them, or threatening to, is pathetic. If you disagree with them, then debate them. Take down their argument intelligently. Chucking a cheap milkshake makes you look like a toddler.

A stunt you say? From the Brexit Party? Surely not!

“A stunt you say? From the Brexit Party? Surely not!”

Indeed. And a pretty transparent stunt to boot.

RedDogsBeg · 23/05/2019 19:52

This is what is being reported in the press:

Basically a youth in his early 20s gave me the middle finger, then went into a shop, obviously bought a milkshake and threw it over me.

The police took a statement from me, but I didn’t get a great look at them. He was wearing a dark tracksuit and was of a slight build. He came around the corner about 10 minutes before and gave me the finger. I just started laughing and he started shouting abuse at me. Then he came back and threw it at me. I just couldn’t believe it.

I'm inclined to believe him, you are not, it's being investigated we may hear more or we may not.

BertrandRussell · 23/05/2019 19:56

Oh, i’m perfectly prepared to believe him - the world is full of arseholes.

But it looks completely different from any other similar incident.

BreconBeBuggered · 23/05/2019 20:10

Just saw an alleged witness account of the incident from someone who says they have CCTV footage of the guy willingly allowing someone to pour the milky whateveritwas over him. Which may be complete bollocks. I don't know.

RedDogsBeg · 23/05/2019 20:14

Agree that it does look different and also agree that sometimes things are not as they seem at first.

Icandothisallday · 23/05/2019 20:27

A stunt you say? From the Brexit Party? Surely not!

I think you mean "from a political party".

I seem to recall a certain labour leader sitting on the floor of a train moaning about there being no seats. When in fact there were seats?

Coquillage · 23/05/2019 20:30

No. I definitely meant the private company that calls itself the Brexit Party.

Rufusthebewilderedreindeer · 23/05/2019 20:31

Ive often wondered about this one

Dh goes to London on occasion and has indeed got on a train with no available seats and stands in the corridor

If anyone asked him he would say there are no seats...but he wouldn’t necessarily go back and check to see if any seats had become available

Icandothisallday · 23/05/2019 21:02

Rufusthebewilderedreindeer yeah, but he walked past empty seats. Because he wanted 2 together to chat to his wife.

Not sure she sat in the floor with him though.

Rufusthebewilderedreindeer · 23/05/2019 21:11

Aaahhhh i see

I did wonder because it did make sense to me that it may have been full when he got on

But its rare to find seats together on busy lines

GrumpyCatLives · 24/05/2019 00:52

Wow! An elderly volunteer gets assaulted, and the first reaction of many is to disbelieve him?

I bet if he had been a Green Party volunteer, people would believe him...

BertrandRussell · 24/05/2019 06:43

“Wow! An elderly volunteer gets assaulted, and the first reaction of many is to disbelieve him?”

It wasn’t my first reaction. My first reaction was actually exasperation, because I think it’s such a stupid and counterproductive thing to do. It was some hours later that the suggestion that it could be a stunt emerged and I had a closer look at it.

And his age is immaterial.

NotACleverName · 24/05/2019 07:03

The “victim” looks pretty chirpy in the photos that haven’t gone viral. That’s all I’m saying.

IWannaSeeHowItEnds · 24/05/2019 07:06

On the face of it age is immaterial. But somehow it just feels more wrong to do this to an elderly person than to a younger one. Older people can be more physically frail, unable to defend themselves and feel more intimidated.
It's like when you hear of an old lady bring mugged - it just feels like an even worse crime to pick on the most vulnerable.

jasjas1973 · 24/05/2019 07:09

Couldn't care less.

He is out campaigning for a party/leader that has split the nation, enabled the hostile environment toward foreigners, forced 10s and 1000s of eu citizens to leave the country, Windrush and now students wrongly deported.
On top of all that Farage said he'd take up a rifle if Brexit wasn't delivered, so prepared to take up arms against his country.

What does he expect?

BertrandRussell · 24/05/2019 07:15

“But somehow it just feels more wrong to do this to an elderly person than to a younger one”

Will you be more ready to excuse him if it turns out to be a “stunt” because he is an elderly person?

BertrandRussell · 24/05/2019 07:18

I put “stunt” in inverted commas. Because “deliberate and cynical attempt to manipulate public sentiment, influence voting and inflame an already unpleasant situation” is a little perhaps a little premature.

Dana28 · 24/05/2019 07:44

All but the last sentence was a quote

Wow that thread is really interesting.

Rufusthebewilderedreindeer · 24/05/2019 07:47

“But somehow it just feels more wrong to do this to an elderly person than to a younger one

So it would be less wrong to do it to farage as he is younger?

Dana28 · 24/05/2019 07:48

Umm I think you'll find that was the conservatives! The Brexit party have only come into being a few weeks ago!!

NotACleverName · 24/05/2019 07:58

Is this looking chirpy?

No, but this arguably is.
