To think throwing milkshakes over people is disgusting?

GrumpyCatLives · 20/05/2019 13:00

So apparently it’s okay to chuck milkshakes over people we disagree with?

Now, I do not like Tommy Robinson, Carl Sargon, or Farage. However, I think that chucking cold food at them, or threatening to, is pathetic. If you disagree with them, then debate them. Take down their argument intelligently. Chucking a cheap milkshake makes you look like a toddler.

He got a bit of abuse also on the street when the abusers of the Rotherham men were walking into court, I'm surprised he wasn't lamp one that day either

His bullshit milkshake brings all the boys to the yard Grin

I think the difficulty is that it gives the right reason to say "look at these left wing extremists- they say they're tolerant and yet they cant help but act with violence". Added to this footage is carefully edited so that the bullying tactics (in Tommy Robinson's recent case) that led to the incident in the first place. This then increases the wedge between the right and the left and further decreases any likelihood of a sensible debate about issues.

However, Farage, Robinson etc are scum. I find it hard to share air with them and I would certainly find it difficult not to say something if I were near by one of them.

(Also I find it hard to accept the would it be ok for the left, extreme religion etc as generally hatred isn't preached by these and if it is then fair game).

CordeliaWyndamPryce · 20/05/2019 19:41

They are just different degrees of the same mentality, and that is it's ok to physically attack someone whose political views you don't like.

Any response is just degrees of the same mentality. Keeping quiet, rationally disagreeing, swearing, shouting, throwing non-harmful liquid, throwing something harmful, attempting to kill, murder. You draw the line at physical contact, some people draw it earlier and would disagree with shouting or swearing.

I think that being killed is so far removed from having milkshake on your suit that it is bloody insulting to murder victims, and their families, to equate the two.

Lifecraft · 20/05/2019 19:59

Are you all really that thick you can't see shit like this just gives them ammunition?

What, like it did for John Prescott and Ed Miliband when they got egged? I can't see what "ammunition" they got from that, tbh.

Seriously???? It was a turning point for John Prescott. He punched they guy who threw the egg square in the face. Instanty went from Two Jags to a proper bloke, who doesn't take any crap from anyone.

He's was far more popular after the event.

TeaForDad · 20/05/2019 20:07

Two jabs Prescott. Respect

HateIsNotGood · 20/05/2019 20:09

It's just a stupid, silly thing to do. I listened to Anna Soubry on R4 earlier pretty much saying the same thing, then the counter argument from some fool who described it as "playful" and when AS disagreed , the silly idiot (I think she was Zoe) countered with criticizing AS in terms that what she had done so far hadn't amounted to much.

I was so seething I could have thrown something at the radio. But that would be as stupid as throwing things at people we don't agree with - counterproductive - no more radio for me and more sympathy/votes for the Brexit Party.

tomtom1999xx · 20/05/2019 20:10

I remember when John Prescott punched a protestor who threw eggs at him Shock

You can watch here for a view, one of the Muslim defence force in balaclavas being escorted by the police to throw bricks at people.

The guy who threw an egg at Corbyn got 28 days in jail

Antigon · 20/05/2019 21:54

That Farage video ... 😂

The people laughing while he was being marched away like a tantrumming toddler being taken away for bath and bed time 😂

Long live the milkshakers. Hope someone re-writes the milkshake song.

My milkshake brings all the fascists to the yard.
And they're like,
Its better than yours,
Damn right its better than yours,
I can teach you,
But I have to charge
I can see you're on it,
You want me to teach the
Techniques that freaks these boys,
It can't be bought,
Just know, thieves get caught,
Watch if your smart,

makingmammaries · 20/05/2019 21:58

Waste of milkshake.

GriseldaChop · 20/05/2019 22:02

I'm not sure the milkshakes are 'cheap', I read that the one that went over Farage in Newcastle was £5.25!

Hithere12 · 20/05/2019 22:06

I hate Farage, Carl Benjamin but this is beyond awful.

You do realise to people on the far right people like Dianne Abbott and Jess Phillips are disgusting awful people and so should they be allowed to throw milkshakes at them?? No! But it’ll start happening if this becomes an acceptable thing to do to someone you hate in politics.

PinkieTuscadero · 20/05/2019 22:11

Jess Phillips are disgusting awful people and so should they be allowed to throw milkshakes at them??

No they should just be allowed to intimidate her with rape jokes. As they have been doing.

Happy?

Hithere12 · 20/05/2019 22:26

No they should just be allowed to intimidate her with rape jokes. As they have been doing

Hmm no of course they shouldn’t be ALLOWED to and he’s been widely condemned by everyone in politics over it and the media. But my point is the left are jumping up and down with excitement over this and if it’s acceptable to do this then it’s going to start happening to those on the left.

I don’t know how to explain this again it’s exhausting. Violence should not be acceptable under any circumstance.

Also this thread is about the incident with Farage not Benjamin.

PinkieTuscadero · 20/05/2019 22:29

Yes, dear. Because events must only be regarded in a vacum.

SinisterBumFacedCat · 20/05/2019 22:29

Let’s face it, it’s the only dissent the news seems to be willing to show against the hard right, compared to puke inducing love in for Brexit and UKIP they love to show these days.

longwayoff · 20/05/2019 22:30

A rape joke is not as funny as a milkshake. Those of you who are defending the indefensible are minimising the odious Right and the pernicious creep of the Goebbels inspired propaganda machine they are utilising. They can't and won't debate, they can shout others down and that is the sum of their creed. He who shouts loudest and longest is strongest. Just heard a supporter on radio saying how terrible to resort to violence and assault and make Nigel damp. So angry is she at this hideous violence, she'd like to slap Anna I
Soubry.Confused Lactose against intolerance.

Coppersulphate · 20/05/2019 22:34

Assault is never right.
Throwing milkshakes might seem like light hearted fun. But it won't be fun if it turns nasty against one of our MPs.
Surely we should be able to protest peacefully regardless of who it is.

AlexaShutUp · 20/05/2019 22:38

No. I'm a remainer through and through, and I hate Nigel Farage with every bone in my body. He is a vile little man and a shameless opportunist without any moral compass. He deserves no respect.

However, I do not believe that physical assaults of any variety have a place in a civilised democracy. Obviously, throwing food or drink is unlikely to do any real damage, but it is still an assault of sorts. People have every right to protest, but not like this.

Let us argue with Farage and take him down with words. Let us protest against the media giving him excessive airtime. Let us investigate him for any financial wrongdoing. But let us not descend to the kind of gutter politics that he represents. Chucking milkshake at him achieves nothing, it probably just galvanises his supporters all the more.

gandalf456 · 20/05/2019 22:43

Milkflakes

Tavannach · 20/05/2019 22:51

Assaulting anyone in whatever way should always be viewed as disgusting, so I'm ashamed to say that there was a little bit of me that was totally smirking when I read about Farage in Newcastle.
I agree it's a waste of a milkshake, especially a banana and salted caramel one.

longwayoff · 20/05/2019 22:52

You will all have seen Andrew Marr, an experienced, skilled interviewer, fail to engage Mr Shouty Outrage Farage. You may have noticed similarly qualified Matt Frei attempt to engage. Farage is using Bannon recommended tactics to avoid answering any questions. Like Trump, he doesn't debate or tolerate views that don't agree with his. Therefore milkshake him. It makes him feel foolish and makes people laugh at him. Good.

woman19 · 20/05/2019 23:06
