To think throwing milkshakes over people is disgusting?

So apparently it’s okay to chuck milkshakes over people we disagree with?

Now, I do not like Tommy Robinson, Carl Sargon, or Farage. However, I think that chucking cold food at them, or threatening to, is pathetic. If you disagree with them, then debate them. Take down their argument intelligently. Chucking a cheap milkshake makes you look like a toddler.

I think anything which gets them public sympathy is a very bad idea. Agree.

Furthermore it just hands them a card that says the left can't argue coherently against them all they can resort to is throwing things because they know they've lost.

Two spectacular own goals.

Lockheart · 20/05/2019 23:21

Is it the height of nuanced political debate? No.

Is it assault? Possibly; that will be up to the courts to decide.

Did it brighten up my day? Hell yes.

ClarkeMurphy · 20/05/2019 23:45

I defend freedom of speech - the right to state your beliefs without fear of harm. I do not defend to right to state them without fear of ridicule, embarrassment or a dry cleaning bill. If you can't handle the latter you really ought to steer clear of politics. Those who can't tell the difference between a dry cleaning bill and actual pain need to get a grip.

PS "the Man of the PayPal" is fucking genius.

Tootyfilou · 20/05/2019 23:55

No these fascist scum are fair game. Save your sympathy for someone who deserves it. On a more serious note, the rise of the far right is a concern and people taking a stance in any way is a plus for any civilised society. If this was the nazis in the lead up to the 2WW would you object then? These have EXACTLY the same views. No paseran

Today, in Scotland, a Tory councillor and his family escaped being killed or suffering serious injury. Their car was set on fire, there was an explosion and the fire spread to the garage and house.

The councillor believes that the people who did this were protesting about decisions on the Council's Planning Committee. Instead of making a case, the protesters had no qualms about causing damage and terrorising children.

It starts with milk shakes, and rape 'jokes' aimed at women MPs. It ends in tears or worse. Encouraging and applauding the milk shake protest is short-sighted.

ClarkeMurphy · 21/05/2019 00:24

If you can't tell the difference between setting fire to someone's car or home and a fucking milkshake you really do need to get a grip. Claiming the two are equal or that one will inevitably lead to the other is insane.

Last year my nephew soaked me with a hosepipe because he thought it would be hilarious. I was mildly irritated and I changed in to dry clothes. I didn't call the police because he was likely to become an axe-murderer.

Hithere12 · 21/05/2019 01:36

Well there are plans for the right to now do this to politicians on the left. All you need to do is check Twitter to see this. THIS is why I’m against it. It becomes this pathetic tit for tat with real people caught in the cross fire. Don’t be surprised in the next few days when we see this happen to good labour politicians.

notangelinajolie · 21/05/2019 01:49

It is assault. Plain and simple and I hope the idiot gets the custodial sentence they deserve.

PinkieTuscadero · 21/05/2019 01:54

They won't.

SuePerbly · 21/05/2019 02:11

Instinct says that people should take the higher moral ground BUT........it had an effect. Farage was meant to speak in my city yesterday afternoon. He didn't, due to being covered in milkshake.

When Mosely tried to rally in Hull, he was pretty much run out of there by people throwing things at him.

We can say that is wrong, but then should the people at the Battle of Cable Street have just chatted nicely? That direct action led to the BUF being banned and Mosely being interred during the war.

Words should work. Sometimes they don't. I don't trust for one second that Farage and his ilk would plan on using just words if they were in power.

longwayoff · 21/05/2019 07:11

Let's all talk about milkshakes instead of what Farage and his supporters represent.. Wake up.

BertrandRussell · 21/05/2019 07:41

Yep. They couldn’t buy the PR.

PreseaCombatir · 21/05/2019 07:52

Didn’t the police lead an escort of masked men protesting TR on saturday? Apparently they were carrying eggs, Etc.

I don’t think the police should be politically motivated, I think they should apply the law uniformly, I can’t see them leading a masked EDL protest anywhere.

GrumpyCatLives · 21/05/2019 07:56

The Labour counselor who tried to throw that milkshake should be expelled. Women have been kicked out for of the Labour Party for claiming that humans can't change sex. Intentionally throwing food at other candidate is far worse, I think.

If you can't tell the difference between setting fire to someone's car or home and a fucking milkshake you really do need to get a grip.

How far do we go with this line of thinking. A man who throws his drink over his wife in temper is not as bad as a man who hits his wife? Don't forget to say that on the next tread written by a woman whose husband has thrown his dinner at her because he didn't like it.

Do we give a pass to people who torture animals because it's not the same as torturing humans?

What's Jess Phillips angry about, after all, it was only a rape joke, he hasn't actually raped her!

I really don't understand this mentality. Some things are just wrong. Assaulting someone by throwing a milkshake at them, not because they threw one at you, but because you don't like what they have to say, it the behaviour of scumbags.

ClarkeMurphy · 21/05/2019 09:33

I really don't understand this mentality.

You really don't understand that some bad things are worse than others? So you honestly think that a man who steals food because he is hungry is literally as bad as a man who murders his wife? I find that attitude weird and quite scary tbh. And I thank goodness the law recognises degrees of wrongness. I wouldn't want someone to be imprisoned for 25 years for failing to pay their TV licence.

BiBiBirdie · 21/05/2019 09:35

Depends on the target:
Little old lady minding her own business- terrible
Racist scumbag who fakes being a chav when really he has a posh name- chuck the lot over him and then some.
It's non violent resistance at its best.

BertrandRussell · 21/05/2019 09:36

Did somebody seriously compare this to Cable Street?

ClarkeMurphy · 21/05/2019 09:42

Did somebody seriously compare this to Cable Street?

Indeed! The anti-fascists at Cable Street were armed with far more than a milkshake. Clearly much worse. After all, we are only allowed to use our words against fascists.

Lifecraft · 21/05/2019 09:51

It's non violent resistance at its best

Apart from the fact that it's an act of violence.

PinkieTuscadero · 21/05/2019 10:16

If the Battle of Cable Street happened today a whole lot of MNers would be outraged on the fascists behalf.

‘Ooooooh but we need to talk to them, understand where they’re coming from, listen to their very valid point of view…’

MatthewBramble · 21/05/2019 10:46

The trouble is that it is very hard to find the traditional rotten eggs these days.

BiBiBirdie · 21/05/2019 11:33

@Lifecraft I can't recall reading of any deaths by milkshake. I would hazard a guess that the only thing hurt is pride. And a cheap suit.
There is enough shite in this country without morons like the artist known as Tommy Robinson and Nigel "if only that helicopter crash had of been the end of it" Farage whipping up the same type who are lamenting the loss of the Jeremy Kyle Show.
If it stops more knuckle draggers feeling they're justified sending out "Punch a Muslim Day" leaflets or smashing up mosques, then I'm half tempted to join in.
What's next, the return of the BNP?

MrJollyLivesNextDoor · 21/05/2019 11:36

Shame it wasn't an anvil

FudgeBrownie2019 · 21/05/2019 11:39

In any other circumstance I'd feel sorry for the victim. In the case of an over-sensitive tantrumming bigot spouting fascist-sympathising bollocks on the daily, I'm surprisingly pleased to see it happen.

You can't behave like a dick in public regularly then complain when others lower themselves to your dick standards.
