To think throwing milkshakes over people is disgusting?

So apparently it’s okay to chuck milkshakes over people we disagree with?

Now, I do not like Tommy Robinson, Carl Sargon, or Farage. However, I think that chucking cold food at them, or threatening to, is pathetic. If you disagree with them, then debate them. Take down their argument intelligently. Chucking a cheap milkshake makes you look like a toddler.

Nigel will rise above it, typifies the left throwing junk food at people.

SunsetBunny · 20/05/2019 16:52

I think in this case it will seriously backfire on the offender, as everyone’s just thinking “what the fuck are you doing spending 5 quid on a milkshake?”
Yes, this was no cheapo milkshake!

Papellino · 20/05/2019 16:52

Nigel will rise above it

Nigel is in the sewer. Always was, always will be.

CatherineOfAragonsPrayerBook · 20/05/2019 16:54

Lennon and Farage may appear to be irritated by milkshakes, but when the cameras stop rolling they are rubbing their hands with glee. They know they've just become more popular

This^

It might feel good in the moment, but it backfires pretty quickly. You make martyrs of these people.

You can throw what you want at whoever you want as long as you’re prepared for possible consequences

No you can't, because there are likely to be consequences to others including the person who is the target. Acid thrown in a crowd for eg.

Other unforeseen consequences could be several more sympathisers for cause you disagree with.

Ronsters · 20/05/2019 16:55

I can't really see what it achieves, apart from giving Farrage publicity.
Also, standing up to fascists means throwing milk shakes at them, real hard core fascists must be quaking in their boots.

LoveTheLakes40 · 20/05/2019 16:58

@MargotMoon

The video I posted early shows an, attempted, unprovoked attack from an employee and candidate of the Labour Party. He wasn’t harassing her, she just walked up to him and tried to assault him.

I’m no fan of Tommy and his ilk, but this behaviour from members of the Labour Party makes them look pathetic and juvenile.

Walkingdeadfangirl · 20/05/2019 17:03

So according to most on this thread if someone has different views to you then violence and assault is to be encouraged. RIP free speech but dont expect everyone to give up on it quietly.

Its only a 'milkshake' but next it will be the police leading hundreds of masked MDL men to attack a peaceful political rally. So who cares if the bricks and bottles being thrown hit or kill the women and children in the crowd. Oh wait its already happened, I guess its ok, after-all it was only a 'milkshake'.

Breathlessness · 20/05/2019 17:04

‘Tommy’?

redcarbluecar · 20/05/2019 17:06

@Catherine - by ‘consequences’, I meant everything you’ve mentioned, and by ‘you can’ I meant you have the ability to, not you are legally allowed to. I think the pp had asked whether she could throw something at Corbyn.

redcarbluecar · 20/05/2019 17:10

I wouldn’t condone ‘milkshaking’ as a form of political protest and hope it’s a short lived fad. However I think ‘different views’ is a bit of an understatement when it comes to far right rhetoric.

dolldrums · 20/05/2019 17:11

Totally agree OP!

Breathlessness · 20/05/2019 17:13

Has to be done

headinhands · 20/05/2019 17:15

I try to keep chanting 'throwing milkshakes over people is ridiculous' but it just makes me laugh even more when I see them all milkshakey.

buttery81 · 20/05/2019 17:17

I don’t know about anyone else, but reading this thread has made me really want a chocolate milkshake! Preferably not one with a Farage on the other end of it though.

TeaForDad · 20/05/2019 17:18

I threw a milkshake at a law breaking person.

Their views were abhorrent, factually wrong and illegal. Their rhetoric makes people like me feel unsafe. They just go around spewing their vile views inciting hatred.

It was Posie Parker.

This is fine right?

LoveTheLakes40 · 20/05/2019 17:18

Yes. I like the sound of the banana and salted caramel one though.

qazxc · 20/05/2019 17:19

No, it's not ok, it's assault no matter how revolting their views might be.
It also is counterproductive as it gives them an opportunity to act oppressed, complain about the freedom of speech,....

CatherineOfAragonsPrayerBook · 20/05/2019 17:20

redcarbluecar
Oh I see. Wires crossed then.

MangoFeverDream · 20/05/2019 17:21

It’s vile behavior. You lot may think it funny now, but wait until they say our radfem views are “literal violence” and that it’s okay to throw things at TERFs and beat us because our words are literal violence.

teyem · 20/05/2019 17:26

Who are you calling "you lot"? You realise a good number of people posting here agree with you?

TheRedBarrows · 20/05/2019 17:32

Mango I was thinking the exact same thing. I am viewed as some kind of gender fascist because I believe that people cannot change biological sex, that biological sex remains a valid way to identify however Trans people choose to id themselves) and that sort should remain to be divided along sex grounds, not gender.

Trans Rights Activists hate people like me who have these beliefs. I should be able to voice them publicly without fear of anyone throwing milkshakes over me.

If you do not believe in free speech for those you oppose you do not believe in free speech at all.

Fascists will not listen to debate, no. But people may be deterred from following fascists by debate and reason. Fascists will not change their views due to being assaulted with soft drink either. It will strengthen their anger, puff up their disillusioned sense of martyrdom, enable them to play to the gallery - Britain loves and underdog - and get them in the news.

CatherineOfAragonsPrayerBook · 20/05/2019 17:35

Excellent post TheRedBarrows

ginghamtablecloths · 20/05/2019 17:37

It's childish. There are more grown-up ways of disagreeing with people such as having a proper debate.

origamiunicorn · 20/05/2019 17:39

How dairy show his face, I can't shake the feeling he deserved it.

Ok that was bad but some of the puns on Twitter are gold...

MissPollyHadADolly19 · 20/05/2019 17:43

Unfortunately cretins such as Tommy Robison and the like will seek out their prey and will not stop until they get a reaction - all on camera of course.

I don't know if you read the article about the young man who "milkshaked" him, poor kid has recieved death threats. It's worth the read and gives abit more of an insight to the situation.

As for talking to them maturely you cannot debate with these vile subhuman's, they are far beyond debating with, you could have all the facts and be completely calm throughout but it would not make a single bit of difference.
Instead they will continue to falsely accuse and insult their prey.
But as for throwing milkshakes over actual human beings, of course that is wrong.
