Neighbours cats nuisances.

Fed up of the neighbours cats treating my garden like there own. The sun beams down on my garden so I’m guessing they like that but it also shines in their owners garden. Tonight I’m fuming because I caught it doing a crap in my front garden. First it dug a hole then did the business. I threw water at it so it ran away.
I know my neighbour would knock my door if it was the other way round. What should I do? His is really irritating me now. And they’ve got 4 cats by the way. Not really a fan of next door but we’re civil and polite’ish.

I have absolutely no problem with cats pooing in my garden but am so fed up with birds nesting and pooing everywhere. Wish I could just scoop that up rather than needing to hose and brush it away.

boobirdblue · 17/05/2019 12:44

Cats are known to have killed newborns. They also kill birds and small wildlife.

I don't believe that cats "kill" newborns and killing birds etc is nature.

ChardonnaysPrettySister · 17/05/2019 12:50

You can believe what you want. Cats killing birds isn’t “ nature” whatever that means because you keep the cat as a pet.

You can’t have it both ways, as pet when it suits you and as “nature” whenever that suits better.

I didn’t dislike cats much until a few months ago when one and my children and I saved a bird only for a fucking cat to kill it when we went to release it.

viccat · 17/05/2019 12:55

I love cats and have four BUT I also have a cat proofed garden which means mine won't get out of our own garden and other cats don't get in. It's a fence-top system with netting on an angle, they can't climb or jump over it. It's so amazing for peace of mind, I feel it's so irresponsible to let cats roam in urban areas with busy roads... And I feel so happy not having other cats and foxes come into our garden; when I first moved here I spent ages sorting the garden only for foxes to completely wreck all the newly planted flowers.

The UK is quite unique when it comes to cat ownership, in most countries people either have indoor cats or build safe outside space for them (catios etc.).

Bluebell9 · 17/05/2019 13:01

When we moved to our new house the old owners had taken a shed away, leaving a base of sand which all the neighbors cats thought was a giant litter tray. We removed all the sand and grassed the area but the cats still shit in our garden.

Luckily, our Ddog has taken to chasing them off his territory so we rarely get any cat shit now.

boobirdblue · 17/05/2019 13:07

@ChardonnaysPrettySister I don't own a cat but when I do I'll be sure to tell it not to kill birds, I'll explain although it's compelled to do it it's not nature. 🙄

ChardonnaysPrettySister · 17/05/2019 13:27

It’s really sad you think that cats killing birds is a laughing matter.

FannyWork · 17/05/2019 13:32

I have cats and this thread has been helpful. Didn’t think of offering to pick it up but I will do that now. Ta.

ChardonnaysPrettySister · 17/05/2019 13:33

And you don’t need to tell your hypothetical cat anything you just need to keep it in.

Cats don’t really understand human speak.

PregnantSea · 17/05/2019 13:33

My cat is absolutely terrified of sprinklers. Won't go near then. And it will keep your lawn looking beautiful as an added bonus

boobirdblue · 17/05/2019 13:38

@ChardonnaysPrettySister where the fuck did I laugh? I said it was nature and any derision was at you for thinking it can be stopped.

I have a dog, I would NEVER trust that dog with a baby or small child. My dog has never hurt anything ever. He's a pet and also an animal and could revert to animal traits, ones that I believe I have trained out of him but who knows for sure, he's an animal.

People who believe they can fully train, trust animals (like you're indicating) put fear into me when young children are involved.

Cats nature is too hunt and play then kill, as are big cats, wolves, dingos etc.

I do not believe that can be eliminated and your belief it can is ridiculous.

Also could you link your research for cats killing new born babies?

boobirdblue · 17/05/2019 13:40

@ChardonnaysPrettySister I know cats don't understand human speak, that's exactly my point.

I would not keep an indoor cat, that's cruel, it's like PP said never walking a dog.

MrMeSeeks · 17/05/2019 13:42

Not all catshit smells worse, most of the time i don’t know when ours have gone!
Ours are house cats.
Not cruel to keep them in.
Ours never killed animals, they even lie near the other small animals in the house ( and leg it if they try to get to close Wink).

boobirdblue · 17/05/2019 13:46

@MrMeSeeks why is it not cruel to keep an animal that naturally roams indoors? It would be cruel to do it to a dog.

MaMisled · 17/05/2019 13:48

Can I suggest you politely ask neighbours to regularly turn over a small patch of earth in their garden. Cats love pooping in freshly dug earth and this can be enough to ensure they crap in their own garden.

Oliversmumsarmy · 17/05/2019 13:54

I have 5 indoor cats. They are scared of the sky.
I love it when other cats come into the garden.

I have had a cat who didn’t kill any bird or creatures.

He would sit outside with a blackbird.

Once he came running in meowing to tell me something was wrong.

A chick had fallen out of its nest. Got everyone inside then we watched whilst the adult bird came to help their chick.

Not all cats kill wildlife.

ChardonnaysPrettySister · 17/05/2019 13:56

And because cats are killing bastards then it’s only right to keep them in.

You say it’s cruel to the cat, isn’t it cruel to the wildlife the fucker kills?

And it solves the shit problem.

Jengnr · 17/05/2019 14:01

I’m sure if they could stop it they would? I wonder is there a way to stop cats roaming? Serious question

Keep it in the fucking house!

boobirdblue · 17/05/2019 14:02

@ChardonnaysPrettySister link to the research about cats killing new born babies? I get you don't like cats, but loads of animals kill as I stated previously, would you suggest they are all made instinct?

You seem very overwrought about a small animal.

ChardonnaysPrettySister · 17/05/2019 14:06

Do your own research, surely you can google?

As for whether I like them, then no, I don’t ever since I had to walk ch one kill a bird and there was nothing I could do.

boobirdblue · 17/05/2019 14:09

I have googled and can find nothing to substantiate your claim, therefore I call bullshit and a stupid old wives tale. You of course can provide the evidence to correct me.

Oliversmumsarmy · 17/05/2019 14:13

ChardonnaysPrettySister google says its bollocks

YorkshireGoldFanClub · 17/05/2019 14:14

I think its probably best if you just build a bridge and get over it to be honest as there is nothing that is actually proven to deter them long term/ automatically without getting into the territory of being illegal/ inhumane.

You choose how you feel and you are wasting your effort choosing to get upset about something so beyond your control to best to just accept it and crack on!

HoustonBess · 17/05/2019 14:17

I bought cat treats and put them out (I'm fairly high surfaces so rodents didn't get them).

Next door's cat associated our garden with food/treats and started shitting in its own yard instead. We got to say hi to a happy cat and the treats were like 60p a pack.

I guess we could theoretically have been over feeding the cat but tbh I didn't care as I didn't want me garden full of toxic turds.
