Neighbours cats nuisances.

Fed up of the neighbours cats treating my garden like there own. The sun beams down on my garden so I’m guessing they like that but it also shines in their owners garden. Tonight I’m fuming because I caught it doing a crap in my front garden. First it dug a hole then did the business. I threw water at it so it ran away.
I know my neighbour would knock my door if it was the other way round. What should I do? His is really irritating me now. And they’ve got 4 cats by the way. Not really a fan of next door but we’re civil and polite’ish.

Can't do a proper link but these are what we use. We have 4 to cover the whole garden,

Amazon, naturally!!

ChardonnaysPrettySister · 16/05/2019 22:38

Cats cannot be trained. They go where they go. It is just fertiliser. At least they usually bury it unlike dogs and it smells less and has less disease

Keep the fuckers indoors.

I pick up after my dogs and after the various random cats whose owners cannot be arsed to control the bloody things.

Peacocking · 16/05/2019 22:39

We have a lot of cats. We use the electric motion sensor deterrents to keep them out of areas we dont want them in. Works a treat. Otherwise, the motion sensor driveway alarms set on full volume tends to make them levitate and leave the area pretty promptly.

InspectorClouseauMNdivision · 16/05/2019 23:11

I am actually planning on making my own fence toppers so they can't get in. Because the ones in shops are really pricey!

Thanks for the sonic tip. Does it deterr other animals like frogs? I like them

Femodene · 16/05/2019 23:19

People who choose to have the things should have to keep them indoors, safe, or if they just let them out, secure their garden so they can’t get onto other people’s property, not really interested in how, some kind of over hang on their fence or I’ve seen an outdoor run for them.

User(whatever) cat shit is FAR more stinking than dogs, and since cats left to prowl wild will consume all manner of horrors, it’ll be full of parasites and if left in the right conditions, toxoplasmosis too. Cat owners need to bear in mind that a lot of people do not want their animals filth and/or awful yowling on their property, and either keep them safe indoors, or accept their excrement returned to their property.

VonHerrBurton · 16/05/2019 23:41

I have a child's water gun thingy to aim at any one of new NDN 3 little shits should they show up in my garden. Like a pp we have spent hundreds of hours and thousands of pounds on our garden. We love it. Then they moved in a few months ago. Cats shitting whilst giving me the 'fuck you' face - right in front of me. Stalking along the fences chasing the squirrels and birds away, never see any wildlife any more. Bastards.

I think/hope they're getting the message that they'll be sprayed liberally with water should they set paw in my Garden again.

Don't like cats, don't want to see, hear or smell them in my garden and ill be damned if I'm spending money on expensive deterrents - why should I? Really, really angers me. Ill just upgrade to a huge supersoaker if needed.....or, better still, lift a fence panel and let my sister's big dog into THEIR garden, for a change of scene.....

Fwiw although I really dislike cats, I have no desire to do them any harm. I just wish they'd keep the fuck out of my garden.

KellyW88 · 16/05/2019 23:48

I’ve recently moved and we have four cats too and no matter what we do, we can’t always guarantee that our 2 Male cats won’t poop in somebodies garden - it’s extremely embarrassing but I always offer to clean it up. Not my neighbours job as they’re my cats. But to say keep them locked up inside is cruel IMO.

My females are both physically disabled cats so they just tend to go outside to sunbathe in our back garden, they can’t jump the fences thankfully!

Lemon skins or juice in the used areas can help quite well as a deterrent. Cats hate the smell. If I were your neighbour I’d offer to do it myself, don’t know what your neighbours are like but if you’re on friendly-ish terms maybe talk to them about it?

I have a neighbour who has three big dogs that will bark at all hours of the day and night, a bit annoying but they’re dogs so it’s what they do.

Femodene · 17/05/2019 00:28

Again, keeping a cat indoors is saving it from eg. poisoning, hit by vehicles, lifted by animal abusers to torture (not rare, sadly), getting stuck (on a branch/by its collar/in a garage), getting attacked by dogs or wild animals defending themselves, getting parasites, bad weather, from decimating native species, from being a nuisance to people’s property, and many other things. Cat owners can secure their garden so their animals can go outside and not be at risk, or annoy people, or kill loads of native species. (‘Lol my cat just lies about, wouldn’t kill anything’. Does it aye, bet it shites in other people’s gardens though, and if you let it loose, it’s at the mercy of nature and the general public.)

YesQueen · 17/05/2019 00:32

@Femodene to be fair my cat couldn't catch a cold let alone kill anything. He snores in the neighbours garden (the kids like him) for a couple of hours and then comes back in. I will admit he's unusual though, he runs away from spiders Hmm and I have no cat flap so if I'm out, he is indoors securely and not allowed out at night. Doesn't toilet outside likes his home comforts

Jemima232 · 17/05/2019 00:36

I have two cats and their shit smells awful.

Cats don't like using their own gardens so will use neighbouring ones.

I have always told my neighbours that I or DH will come round and clean up if our cats crap in their gardens.

InspectorClouseauMNdivision · 17/05/2019 00:44

Cat owners should get these. I am going to make my own diy version 😁

Neighbours cats nuisances.
SpareASquare · 17/05/2019 00:45

Contrary to popular opinion (usually by cat owners who prefer outsourcing their cat's crap) it is not 'cruel' to keep your cat indoors. In fact, it is the best solution for all concerned.
Unfortunately a lot of cat owners just don't care what their cats do or how they impact others negatively.

VonHerrBurton · 17/05/2019 00:49

There is no way I could possibly knock at my neighbour's door and ask them to clean their cats' shit up from my garden. I'm not PA enough. I just fume and do it myself.

Nor would I want my neighbour calling round every day 'it's meee! Poop patrol time' That wouldn't work for me either. Ideally they'd keep THEIR pets in THEIR garden. Stop them from getting out of their own garden. Let's face it, they won't. So how about you buy the sonar thing from B+Q or Amazon, bring it round, complete with batteries. Then your pet won't cost me money.

VonHerrBurton · 17/05/2019 00:51

Yes, Inspector, that would be acceptable too! Now we're talking Wink

LyndzB · 17/05/2019 05:51

I still don't get this, 'it's not cruel to keep cats indoors thing?' I have two cats, they use litter trays in the house so at least don't use outside as a toilet. But I would feel cruel keeping them indoors. We don't keep dogs indoors all the time. And we certainly don't like being indoors all the time.

Maybe we need to start taking our cats for a walk on a lead? Genuine question by the way!

I've never actually heard people get so mad at cats until I came on here. Maybe I'm just an ignorant cat owner 🙈

ChardonnaysPrettySister · 17/05/2019 06:23

Please please don’t use the sonar repellent. It’s highly unpleasant to other animals, birds and wildlife and some people are sensitive to it as well.

Honeybee85 · 17/05/2019 06:29

I really don’t understand people who let their cats out and vandalise other people’s property.
We have a cat but she stays indoors, this being the main reason plus we are afraid she might get ran over by a car.

I would have a talk with my neighbour if I were you. Imagine you had a strange dog shitting in your garden - nobody would feel restrained to complain about that but because it’s a cat, it should be OK?

VonHerrBurton · 17/05/2019 06:50

No, we don't keep dogs indoors Lyndz. But, quite rightly, there are laws regarding them running loose, and crapping, in public. The owners are responsible for picking up after dogs. The owners are to see that they don't run unsupervised on people's private property. To some extent they have to be held responsible for noise nuisance too, should someone complain. It's just totally different for cats and their owners.

Imagine if I had 4 June dogs and they were allowed to run free, shittin happily everywhere. Jumping up at toddlers and barking at your back door.

VonHerrBurton · 17/05/2019 06:50

June dogs?! Confused huge dogs.

Iovefootball25 · 17/05/2019 07:32

I like the comparison. It’s totally true about the dogs thing. People would definitely complain. Will be buying some devices and I’ve read about using prickles/spikes.
The cats look at me like they own the property not me! Time to take action methinks

Oh well that's fine then. Others just have to put up with destructive behaviour 🙄

Maybe I'm just an ignorant cat owner🙈

Don't worry, you're not alone. Plenty of cat owners are ignorant/couldn't give a shit about the damage their cats cause because y'know, they just roam and that's just how it is, so go and spend a fuck load of money on deterrents in the hope that they keep your pets off your garden 😑

Slicedpineapple · 17/05/2019 07:41

I hope you find a solution. We haven't yet.
Used to have lots of cats in the garden until we got ddog. Now there's just one that still comes in and poops. Ddog hates it (despite liking other coloured cats, he no longer likes black ones because this one taunts him). So it won't come in the garden within ddogs reach but will sit in places it knows he can't jump at.
We won't use the sonars because they hurt dogs ears. I also don't know any humans that can't hear them - I certainly can.

Last year we couldn't eat anything from our herb garden because it was constantly pooing in it.

Slicedpineapple · 17/05/2019 07:42

I genuinely think cats should have to be walked on leads and picked up after, like dogs. Imagine if I let ddog run around cramping all over the place uncontrolled.

One of our neighbours throws cat poo in to the owners garden.

TheCatDidSay · 17/05/2019 07:43

You can let cats out. Secure your garden to keep your cat in your space build a cattery? Like an Avery but for cats to enjoy. You might let a dog out but you make sure it can’t escape your garden. Do the same with cats. Most People with pedigrees already do to keep them safe it’s the moggys left to roam free.
