Neighbours cats nuisances.

Fed up of the neighbours cats treating my garden like there own. The sun beams down on my garden so I’m guessing they like that but it also shines in their owners garden. Tonight I’m fuming because I caught it doing a crap in my front garden. First it dug a hole then did the business. I threw water at it so it ran away.
I know my neighbour would knock my door if it was the other way round. What should I do? His is really irritating me now. And they’ve got 4 cats by the way. Not really a fan of next door but we’re civil and polite’ish.

We used a sonar car alarm and it didn't effect our dog or other animals. We had frogs in our garden regularly. 👍

toomuchtooold · 17/05/2019 08:26

I'm thinking laterally this year. I've planted a shitload of catnip. I'm hoping that the neighbour's cats will start to think of my garden not as the toilet but the glorious palace of 'nip, and start treating it with the respect it deserves. And also, if they keep going back to neighbour's house stoned off their tits, maybe she'll try and devise some way to keep them in the house. But if none of it works, at least it'll be funny.

LyndzB · 17/05/2019 08:30

I have honestly never considered that my cats would cause such damage! 😬 but I do understand a little more from reading the posts on here!

I didn't want them using outside as toilet, I did know that much.

I get along really well with my neighbours I'm going to talk to them! Ask them if they've ever considered murdering my cats 😂

In all honesty, it may be worth a discussion with your neighbours, depending on how reasonable they are?

I had no idea they caused such a nuisance!

ChardonnaysPrettySister · 17/05/2019 08:50

I’m all for discussion
—at least at first before I set the dogs on them— but I have no idea who the cats belong to, they come, shit and run.

betweentheacts · 17/05/2019 08:53

I really don’t know why they won’t stay in their own garden

Because they're cats, I'm afraid! They're roaming animals, it's what they do. Squirty gun is the best course of action.

19lottie82 · 17/05/2019 09:17

I genuinely think cats should have to be
walked on leads and picked up after, like dogs.

Cats aren’t like dogs Hmm
I will genuinely give you £1000 if you can manage that feat with my cat.

19lottie82 · 17/05/2019 09:18

Just put some cat deterants (?) in your garden.

badlydrawnperson · 17/05/2019 09:20

And this is why that daft petition to make the law regarding road accidents apply in the same way as for dogs is arse.

If you want the same rules for cats, then ALL the same rules have to apply.

ChardonnaysPrettySister · 17/05/2019 09:22

Like what?

Also, why is it up to me to cat proof my garden?

I keep my dogs under control and pick up after them, why are cats and their owners so special that they cannot do it?!

When my cat wants to go out at 4am, should I get out of bed and creep about the neighbourhood with a torch waiting for it to shit, so I can pick it up?

LOL

I often see cats in my garden but never cat poo is this strange? Do they hide it? They do sometimes leave a dead mouse at my back door

19lottie82 · 17/05/2019 09:34

Most of the time they bury it, also cats like to crap some places and not others. There’s no real reasoning behind it, maybe territorial I’m not sure?

boobirdblue · 17/05/2019 09:38

Cat poo smells much worse. It’s disgusting. They even broke my fence by constantly jumping onto it. I really don’t know why they won’t stay in their own garden

Because they're cats and it's what they do ..... roam?

Kamma89 · 17/05/2019 10:15

Dog owners banging on about how unfair it is that they have to keep their animals under control while cat owners are exempt...How many cats are capable of killing & maiming humans, children in particular. Ridiculous comparison.

CoastalWave · 17/05/2019 10:22

Wow so many cat haters? I had no idea! Other people's cats have never bothered me and we have a lovely one ourselves now.

NO way could I keep him in - so cruel. How would you feel stuck indoors 24/7?! It's completely different to compare to dogs...how many cats have killed babies or children due to being unattended?!

I can appreciate ppl don't necessarily want cat poo in their gardens but find this very odd...ALL cats bury their poo so how would you even know?! Free fertiliser surely?

Just get a sonic thing if you want them out of your garden surely?

ANewDawn10 · 17/05/2019 10:38

I absolutely loathe cats, evil things on the prowl. We raised our fence with spikes at the top and that completely stopped them. But it's legal here, as any pet is deemed to be a nuisance if it enters another persons property.
I know you also get those oils which makes their paws stink so they dont like it.

PrayingandHoping · 17/05/2019 10:41

@CoastalWave afraid your thoughts of all cats burying their poo is definitely not correct! They certainly didn't where I used to live

As said further down thread cat poo is harmful,... hence pregnant woman are told to avoid clearing it up!

badlydrawnperson · 17/05/2019 10:59

..ALL cats bury their poo so how would you even know?! Free fertiliser surely?

No they don't. I have seen out cats shitting on our lawn - as well as numerous others over the years.

They do dig up the flowerbeds and crap in there sometimes - but not aways.

I am amazed you don't know this as a cat owner/lover.

ChardonnaysPrettySister · 17/05/2019 11:09

Cats are known to have killed newborns. They also kill birds and small wildlife.

Why should people have to buy sonic deterrent? Also, sonic detergent are harmful to wildlife and affect people’s hearing.

Keep your sodding cat is indoors.

ChardonnaysPrettySister · 17/05/2019 11:11

I do it for my dogs if they need to go out at night. Not sure why you are lolling at or.

thenightsky · 17/05/2019 11:12

I have a couple of friends with cats (one has 6) and they all have these built so their cats never wander off their own property. Surely if you want any pet, you make sure you can house it first!

Slicedpineapple · 17/05/2019 11:15

People talking about cats hurting people - we are specifically talking about them pooing where ever they like. Why should there be constant uproar about dog poo but cat poo is totally fine? Please also tell me how standing in cat shit is any better than standing in dog shit.

Agree that the petition about cats being hit with cars should be treated the same as dogs is stupid, especially as everyone is so keen to argue that they are 'roaming animals'. It should be equal in all respects, including letting them enter and poo over your neighbours property.

LetheBiscuit · 17/05/2019 11:24

Not sure what you expect them to do about it even if you knock on the door? Cats can't really be trained, and keeping them confined to the house is imo pretty cruel, akin to never walking a dog.

YANBU to be mad about the effect on your garden, but I'm not sure approaching the neighbours will really help things. Super soaker/sprinkler, and plants that cats don't like, perhaps even twinned with one of those high-pitched cat deterrents, might do the trick.
