TM has agreed to start the process of leaving office in June. I have mixed feelings and am very worried about the future of this country. AIBU to think this is going to make the situation worse and possibly lead to no deal Brexit?

It’s obviously a long time coming but her replacement is going to be ghastly. Rees-Mogg anyone? Maybe we can join Alabama and NI in the 1950s then.

LakieLady · 16/05/2019 15:46

I don't think there are enough mad fuckers among the Tory MPs to let Boris get in to the last two, after which the entire Tory membership gets a vote. I expect to see a concerted campaign to make sure he doesn't get that far.

If he does get on to the final ballot, I'd say that he's a shoo-in for leader. God help us all if that happens.

I think that if Gove were to stand, he'd get a lot of support from the MPs, who would see him as something of a compromise candidate. He's pro Brexit, but not a complete loon.

asdou · 16/05/2019 15:48

Where did he get his education? Probably Eton & Oxford.

His father is on record saying that the Irish should just bomb each other if they feel like it.

What about Iain Duncan-Smith? Is he putting a horse in the race?

Mummyoflittledragon · 16/05/2019 15:48

Please not Bojo (Bozo).

She was the worst politician in living memory

Gordon Brown was PM, less than years ago

asdou · 16/05/2019 15:49

I quite like Javid

78percentLindt · 16/05/2019 15:49

The thing that annoys me is that the entire debacle- calling the 2016 Referendum ( ie the 2nd Europe referendum) and everything following it has been about the Tory Party - how to see off UKIP etc. Most of the discussion recently has been what the Party will accept, what is good for the Tories.
Blow the rest of the Country.
Hopefully she will lose the vote and rescind Article 50 and let sanity reign.
The best thing that can happen is a complete realignment of the political parties.

badlydrawnperson · 16/05/2019 15:50

Who have they got who is even halfway competent and has a chance of maybe not driving the country off a cliff?

Unfortunately, as amply demonstrated by previous incumbents, those aren't part of the selection criteria.

I don't think there are enough mad fuckers among the Tory MPs to let Boris get in to the last two,

Exactly - he is out of the running before he starts.

Mummyoflittledragon · 16/05/2019 15:51

Agreed. The whole debacle was all about saving the Tory party. And here we now are with the Brexit party.

Esther McVey is standing for Leader. I've read she's a nasty, mendacious, duplicitous climber. Like poison ivy.

Oblomov19 · 16/05/2019 15:52

Who will replace her? Not Boris? Confused

Namestheyareachangin · 16/05/2019 15:52

@asdou

Oh please god not Irritable Duncan Syndrome. Honestly the tories are such a shower of shit at the moment I can't think what's worse. If only Anna Soubry hadn't thrown the Tory towel in just of late she might have been the best of a bad bunch... as it is it just ranges from the risible to the down right scary (I'm looking at you, Jacob Rees-Mogg).

PalamaLama · 16/05/2019 15:57

Gordon Brown wasn't so bad, by comparison.

He had the sense and foresight not to join the Euro, at least.

Bliar was slippery from the beginning and that voice.

But they all led us up the EU garden path without telling us what they were getting us into.

So, no respect for any of them at the end of the day.

T May is an ambitious, vacuous politico, like nearly all the current players, as cynical as they come. Its not just that they stand for nothing, though they don't, not even decency or good sense; they simply have no scruples or morals or beliefs, just carried along on the wave of whatever extreme liberalism is current, however damaging it is.

Brexit party doing well because of this. So I will vote for them. Plus Claire Fox. I like Clair Fox, though I notice a smear campaign gathering pace in the media. I knew her years ago. A principled and thoughtful woman who believes in democracy and freedom.

PalamaLama · 16/05/2019 15:57

As I do.

Quintella · 16/05/2019 15:58

Fuck me.

Anyone who thinks Brown was a worse PM than May has several screws loose.

CatherineOfAragonsPrayerBook · 16/05/2019 16:00

I agree with the previous poster that Gove would be the least dire candidate.

But the last time it appeared she might go, it was Boris that the media were pushing as most likely replacementSad

user1497997754 · 16/05/2019 16:00

How can anyone sane compare Blair to May......Blair sent us to war killing innocent people.....the mind boggles

Lizzie48 · 16/05/2019 16:00

Boris is a pontificating buffoon!

I couldn’t agree more. I think once we’ve had him in office for 3 months, there will be cries of, ‘Come back, Theresa, all is forgiven.’

Neither he nor anyone else is going to find a solution to the Irish border dilemma that’s an improvement on the backstop, because there really isn’t one.

KnifeAngel · 16/05/2019 16:02

Fantastic news. She has been a terrible prime minister.

woodcutbirds · 16/05/2019 16:03

Please not Boris. I prefer May's vacuous complacency to his Machiavellian self-serving vaulting ambition.

whatwouldbigfatfannydo · 16/05/2019 16:03

Scotland welcomes you all with open arms should anyone feel that way inclined? It's bloody freezing up here but we're good craic!

I despair seeing the arguments about the votes of the majority being ignored when 68% of Scottish voters opted to remain! Hmm

A major deciding factor in the independence referendum was Scotland being ensured EU membership if we remained within the UK. This clearly didn't go to happen and the 'inconvenience' of Indy2 is simply people demanding an actual democratic process instead of what we have.

Westminster is a sinking ship and dragging all the nations of Britain down with it.

I was really hoping she’d stay long enough for the Tory party to tear itself asunder beyond repair. Apparently she’s the most useless PM since Lord North.

Ellabella989 · 16/05/2019 16:05

Imagine if two of the most powerful men in the world end up being Boris Johnson and Donald Trump. God help us all!

hullaballoonie · 16/05/2019 16:05

Fuck. Back to the prepping then.
