TM has agreed to start the process of leaving office in June. I have mixed feelings and am very worried about the future of this country. AIBU to think this is going to make the situation worse and possibly lead to no deal Brexit?

You have made my day!!!!!!!!!!!Wine

AutumnCrow · 16/05/2019 15:31

All I can see is she'll announce a departure timetable in June. That could mean anything.

StCharlotte · 16/05/2019 15:32

I think she was the best of a horrific bunch and cannot see anything better coming out of this. They will choose from a selection of back stabbers and if we have to have an election the garden gnome may well get a chance to ruin the country altogether. I cannot believe how low the UK has sunk tbh. Sad

I couldn't have put it better myself. Also Sad

It means she's going.

AutumnCrow · 16/05/2019 15:32

Fucking bloody Boris Johnson though. God help us all.

MaMaMaMySharona · 16/05/2019 15:32

Boris has confirmed he will be running for PM if the opportunity arises

Oh good lord Gin

Mummyoflittledragon · 16/05/2019 15:33

Popwenttheweasel
Yes please that would be delicious.

I obvs have the opposite view of the Brexit party though but can agree about the rest. 😁

I know, Rubber, but we knew that anyway.

Trottersindependenttraders · 16/05/2019 15:33

That bit of the Press Release which says, We have agreed that she and I will meet following the 2nd Reading of the bill to agree a timetable for the election of a new leader....

Genuine question, why is it up to the Chairman of the 1922 Committee to do this. Why is he able to push for it but not, say Michael Gove or Liam Fox?

AutumnCrow · 16/05/2019 15:34

Oh god those massive emojis are back as well

PalamaLama · 16/05/2019 15:34

Its not national socialism, its democracy, you can't even tell the different you are so apolitical. Calling people Nazis is not a political argument Names. What do you even think? I guess you just use personal abuse. The vote of 17 million people were trampled upon, when they promised to honour the vote, time and time again. Thats not democracy. Democrats should honour the vote. Anyway I'm out of here. MN always call people Nazis and racists they disagree with. Says more about the name-callers.

lubeybooby · 16/05/2019 15:35

ffs. the last thing we need. I am very much not a tory but I think a change of leader before Brexit is a terrible idea, further destabilising something already rather shaky

AutumnCrow · 16/05/2019 15:36

Anyway I'm voting for Catherine Bearder next week.

PalamaLama · 16/05/2019 15:36

Anyway, I'm SO glad that useless woman's gone or going - what a fool and the spineless people who backed her share the blame.

MaMaMaMySharona · 16/05/2019 15:37

The vote of 17 million people were trampled upon, when they promised to honour the vote, time and time again.

My understanding is that we're in this current mess because they were trying to honour the will of just over half of the people but the government can't work out a way to do it which doesn't fuck us over.

Mummyoflittledragon · 16/05/2019 15:37

The result would not have been allowed to stand had the vote been legally binding. The 17m argument is tiresome.

Fucking Boris though 🤦‍♀️

badlydrawnperson · 16/05/2019 15:40

Not a Tory voter, but always interested to see how things work out. I don't think Boris will have widespread enough appeal. Look for a plodder who no-one really likes but no-one dislikes to see who they'll elect - Major, May that's how they both wound up in charge.

BettysLeftTentacle · 16/05/2019 15:40

I’ve been listening to First World Problems by Martin Jameson. It’s worth a listen (radio 4, or BBC Sounds), to see the way we’ll all be heading if Boris becomes PM.

ForalltheSaints · 16/05/2019 15:40

When the contest is called, I will contact my Tory M.P. and explain my reasons as to why I do not want Boris Johnson to be chosen.

Namestheyareachangin · 16/05/2019 15:41

@PalamaLama

Oh mate it's a reference from a satirical film, you dafty. Hence the quote marks. A little ribbing rather than an accusation of Nazi-hood. You might want to calm the heck down instead of jumping before you're stung. But don't let me interrupt you pompous flounce Wink

dreichuplands · 16/05/2019 15:41

May offered parliament Brexit, parliament didn't vote for it.
The only thing they have voted for it to not crash out of the EU with no agreement.
People didn't vote for any specific type of Brexit no matter how much many now state they did.
The country didn't vote for the conservatives in large enough numbers to enable them to pass the type of Brexit they wanted to. There was a general election, they could have done but they didn't.
It isn't sensible to pretend that Brexit is easy with simple solutions to difficult issues like Ireland.
I don't see the next PM having any more answers to these issues. International peace treaties don't disappear because you would like them to.

asdou · 16/05/2019 15:41

Boris is a pontificating buffoon!

GodDammitAmy · 16/05/2019 15:44

None of the backstabbing cowards will want to step forward. Boris, Gove, Rees-Moggs etc.
I read this yesterday, that she will go if her Deal goes through. Is it still the same thing or is she going regardless?

53rdWay · 16/05/2019 15:45

Who have they got who is even halfway competent and has a chance of maybe not driving the country off a cliff? Hammond maybe? Javid? Rudd?

The vote of 17 million people were trampled upon

Brexiteer MPs voted down Theresa May’s deal. You’d have had Brexit by now if it wasn’t for them.
