TM has agreed to start the process of leaving office in June. I have mixed feelings and am very worried about the future of this country. AIBU to think this is going to make the situation worse and possibly lead to no deal Brexit?

The thing which amazes me is that Boris is quite open that he always intended to stand, despite having said for a couple of years that he wasn't interested. That man doesn't even pretend not to be a bare faced liar.

badlydrawnperson · 17/05/2019 09:17

That man doesn't even pretend not to be a bare faced liar.

And in that he is different from most politicians in what way?

LordProfFekkoThePenguinPhD · 17/05/2019 09:19

He thinks he is Churchill - maybe the dog but not the man.

ForalltheSaints · 17/05/2019 10:13

Dogs are worthy of more respect than being compared to Boris.

Peregrina · 17/05/2019 10:19

The reply to Johnson thinking he is Churchill:

Oh yes.

Sorry about that!

LadyRannaldini · 17/05/2019 10:31

He was largely responsible for the Good Friday Agreement

He also kept us out of the Schengen Agreement for which we should be eternally grateful.

LadyRannaldini · 17/05/2019 10:33

unelected prime minister
Early for old chestnut like that! We have never, ever elected a Prime Minister, we elect an MP only.

Peregrina · 17/05/2019 10:57

At one time Tory PMs weren't even elected by MPs or party members - the name just 'emerged'. I don't remember how Labour did it, and back in the mists of time, how the Liberals did it.

Langrish · 17/05/2019 11:23

Springwalk*

You’ve either got some f**king nerve or you’re an imbecile. We’re in this hole because people like you who have no understanding whatsoever of the economic catastrophe that will be wrought on this nation if we leave the EU voted as you did. And you still, despite the tsunami of incontrovertible evidence, have no understanding.

Thankfully poll after poll attests that many more now recognise the reality and if there were a PV tomorrow the outcome would be significantly different. Which is why you don’t want one.

badlydrawnperson · 17/05/2019 11:43

Imagine if two of the most powerful men in the world end up being Boris Johnson and Donald Trump. God help us all!

I didn't know Boris was running for Chinese leadership.

Ellabella989 · 17/05/2019 11:50

@badlydrawnperson ?! I said “two” of the most powerful men. Not “the most powerful men”.

Peregrina · 17/05/2019 12:20

I don't think Boris Johnson is a match for Putin.
Johnson would make a poor PM of a middle ranking country - the Empire is long gone.

MarniLou · 17/05/2019 12:37

As someone who works in education...just. not. Gove. ( or any of them for that matter).

If MG is PM I will be leaving this country.

Mummyoflittledragon · 17/05/2019 13:45

Yes the Empire is gone. A chunk of leavers are in denial. We aren’t special.

help people on low income? Get rid of zero hour contracts, only employ foreigners who come here for decent jobs like nurses, not coffee shops, pay everyone at least £10 an hour, you tell me people like McDonald's can't afford to pay £10 an hour, this will get more people back into work, stop foreign buyers buying property and letting them out at ridiculous prices

Grin

This made me laugh. What do you Farage supporters not get? The man despises the EU, but cannot bear to live by his principles. His been getting regular money from the EU. Will get an EU pension....what are you getting? His daughters have EU citizenship, with rights to travel and settle unimpeded in 27 other countries...what will you/your children/grandchildren have? He's ensured privilege and security for his own family whilst convincing you to take it from you abd yours. His motivations are in sync with that of the Republican Party. Once we leave with No Deal you can kiss the NHS goodbye, watch it be sold off to American insurance firms. NF will have gold plated health insurance and be able to travel elsewhere in Europe for treatment if he wants.

Get rid of zero hour contractsGrin Where will the incentive to do that post No Deal Brexit come from? You think they are going to care more about workers rights and place further restrictions on businesses and the free market economy when it will be in serious need of bolstering??! Anyone in their right mind would be offering businesses slave labour for as little peanuts as possible to attract business to this country.

only employ foreigners who come here for decent jobs like nurses Have you ever bothered to speak to those foreign workers in coffee shops? A fair few of them are degreed up to their eyeballs. Just their degrees aren't necessarily immediately transferable. Besides this is crap, because the LAST thing voters like you want is a foreign elite middle class cadre lording it over you! Nothing foreigners do makes you happy, just admit it. You want to reduce immigration? Put your money where your mouth is and have lots of children. A lot to keep our economy growing.

stop foreign buyers buying property and letting them out at ridiculous prices I really wouldn't hold my breath about that either.

The UK is owned by foreigners. How many iconic British brands and utilities and services are owned by foreign companies? Why are you thinking that leaving the EU is somehow going to return us to a greatness of Empire? Why is Farage not addressing this?

I am not unsympathetic to all those issues you brought up, I have a lot of sympathy with them the poor and working class have been screwed over in this country for ages. But I am shocked that people like yourself seem to be riding on popularism instead of logic.

Why not vote for someone who will address those issues rather than voting for your own demise?

Flobochin · 17/05/2019 15:18

@MarniLou so many people making empty threats.

Oscarsdaddy · 17/05/2019 17:25

Just wait until Boris the Buffoon is in charged then we’ll all be f**ked

Davros · 17/05/2019 17:48

I bet a pound to a pinch of shit that Boris will not become PM/Tory leader. It'll be someone unexpected, mark my words

Iris1654 · 17/05/2019 17:49

How Boris has the fucking nerve I’ll never know!

No one should vote for that bumbling idiot. NO ONE!

Thallo · 17/05/2019 17:55

only employ foreigners who come here for decent jobs like nurses

Because it's only skilled workers that the economy needs? What about carers a large percentage of whom are foreign? What about fruit pickers, the vast majority of whom are foreign? Brain surgeons and astrophysicists aren't going to be flocking to these post-Brexit shores.

ToftyAC · 17/05/2019 17:55

Oh thank god. The woman is a clueless plank. Not that I think any of her cabinet or former cabinet are any better. Although I think British politics in general needs a ruddy good shake up full stop.

Oscarsdaddy · 17/05/2019 18:06

Esther McVey is my preference

Thallo · 17/05/2019 18:08

It's surreal to live in a Britain where someone thinks Esther McVey is a good politician. She's dishonest and she's thick. Not a winning combination.

LakieLady · 17/05/2019 18:20

I would favour Hammond

At least he gives the impression that he is reasonable, competent and not bonkers.
