To ask how to sleep, with him across the road??

Across the road from us is a junkie. Thank God we don't have any dcs because he truly is terrifying. We have found needles across the road from us, we found what looks like a diy Molotov cocktail burned in our gutter and he has stolen our bin and many other neighbours bins and filled it with his kitchen. He smokes meth out on the footpath and he watches us, including the neighbours come and go.

We've spoken to our MP, the council and housing authority because it's government housing and he's going to be there at least another month. My DH and I have work all day tomorrow, terrified he'll break in if he notices the cars are gone and rob us and hurt our cats :(

We have dogs thank God, they have to stay outside while we are at work.

All we can do is lock our front doors and windows, roller shutters down

I have a council house built in the 50s. Massive back garden and a nice little front garden that would be big enough for a sofa and a few chairs should I wish to spend sunny days out the front. (I don't)

I wouldn't be pleased to be living across the road from a drug addict but presumably today isnt going to be the first time you have both been out of the house so why are you suddenly so worried.

NunoGoncalves · 17/05/2019 18:18

What is the relevance of dogs barking all day? People were moaning about dogs being outside as if it was inherently a bad thing. Some people pointed out that it is not. Obviously if they bark all day that's bad. But not all dogs who are outside bark all day (in fact, most don't) and some dogs that inside bark all day and annoy the neighbours too.

Accountant222 · 17/05/2019 18:40

Don't they steal wheelie bins and set them on fire and inhale the fumes, I understand whatever the bins are made of, gives them a high when sniffed.

Information told to me by nephew who is a detective. Where I used to live, there are woods I walked my dogs and often were burnt out remnants of bins.

category12 · 17/05/2019 18:52

Dogs that are inside barking all day can only annoy the immediate neighbours. Dogs that are outside barking all day can annoy whole communities.

What does this have to do with OP's dogs???

Nothing :D Threads get derailed.

MollyMinniesMum · 18/05/2019 17:37

I haven’t read all the messages on this thread but I hope I’m not the only one who thinks you have a very bigoted view of this man. If he is a drug addict he has an illness, he said not out to hurt you or your cats, perhaps you could treat him with a bit more compassion and seek help for him rather than applying your stereotypical views. That or move?

MummasTheWord · 18/05/2019 17:41

Why not invest in one of those cameras you can put up from amazon that you can view from your phone?

VampireSlayer19 · 18/05/2019 17:43

Tbh am more concerned with the treatment of your dogs being outside all day. Why are they?

OzziePopPop · 18/05/2019 17:52

We have a former council house with a third of an acre out back, plenty of room for my two young Beagles to play all day in. They don’t bark but they’re only out with someone home and the back door open anyway. They love chasing squirrels (they’d have no idea what to do if they caught one), sniffing stuff (not glue, they’re very vanilla, they prefer all-natural sniffs) and generally being Beaglish out there.

Good luck with your neighbours OP, having lived in some v rough areas I commiserate and, unfortunately, have no suggestions. Sorry 😐

NunoGoncalves · 18/05/2019 17:59

RTFT.

Why shouldn't they be?

VampireSlayer19 · 18/05/2019 18:05

Because dogs get stolen and escape, hit with cars, why would you risk it. Doesn’t sound like they are out at night so why can’t they be in a safe locked house during the day? Hence concern for the dogs. My husband works from home so mine can go in and out as he pleases but I would never leave him outside all day without someone there.

If OP is living opposite council housing than sounds like a built up area so not countryside where the risk is less.

But to answer OP question as isn’t about the dogs but i still don’t agree, can get one of those door bells with cameras you can view on your phone.

Message from MNHQ: We've added a comma to the title so it makes a bit more sense

Spoilsports. Much better the other way.

puppy23 · 18/05/2019 18:17

Another person worried about the dogs - so many dogs are stolen from back gardens!!!

Also wanting a pic of the magnifying glasses

Kitobi · 18/05/2019 18:56

Unless meth is legally used where you live just call the police. It's not that difficult and certainly does not need multiple pages of discussion on the internet. 1 or 2 times he dissapears into the system. And yes the title certainly had me expecting a different thread lol.

crochetandshit · 18/05/2019 19:01

How do you know if someone's smoking meth?
Does it have a smell?

EastDulwichWife · 18/05/2019 19:11

Highly misleading title but six pages in and I’m still laughing.

Someone so high on meth they are dismantling their own kitchen and putting it in a dustbin probably isn’t going to care about a CCTV camera watching him, so I wouldn’t bother with that.

Confused as to why a meth head would poison your dogs. Are meth heads known for doing this? Is it telltale meth behaviour?

manicmij · 18/05/2019 19:15

If he is doing all that with drugs, surely the police should be involved.

Jux · 18/05/2019 19:20

Can you record him smoking meth on the street? How do you know it's meth?

I always think first of methylated spirit when someone writes or says meth. It would be dramatic if he were smoking that! Maybe you could persuade him to try it? That would solve the problem.

CaptainButtock · 18/05/2019 19:21

I don’t get why there would be needles if he’s smoking meth?
My neighbour once shacked up with a dealer and I thought it would be awful (they had to walk through our garden to get to the back door) If I encountered any of his customers, they were perfectly nice. No bother at all. Maybe an aberration but certainly taught me not to be so judgmental.
Why would you think he would hurt your animals?

hazell42 · 18/05/2019 19:30

Drug addicts are people too.

Furrydogmum · 18/05/2019 19:31

I wouldn't leave my dogs outside anyway, but particularly not with someone like that across the Rd - I struggle to sympathise with your plight when your dogs are in the firing line! We have a dodgy neighbour several houses along the St and he is the reason I check my garden before letting and of my furries out.

Furrydogmum · 18/05/2019 19:32

*any!

sonjadog · 18/05/2019 19:44

How big are these magnifying glasses? When I think of a magnifying glass, I think of one of those ones that you hold in your hand. Fifteen of them would make a very small and low wall.
