To ask how to sleep, with him across the road??

Across the road from us is a junkie. Thank God we don't have any dcs because he truly is terrifying. We have found needles across the road from us, we found what looks like a diy Molotov cocktail burned in our gutter and he has stolen our bin and many other neighbours bins and filled it with his kitchen. He smokes meth out on the footpath and he watches us, including the neighbours come and go.

We've spoken to our MP, the council and housing authority because it's government housing and he's going to be there at least another month. My DH and I have work all day tomorrow, terrified he'll break in if he notices the cars are gone and rob us and hurt our cats :(

We have dogs thank God, they have to stay outside while we are at work.

All we can do is lock our front doors and windows, roller shutters down

TBH meth heads are usually quite nice. It’s the crack heads you want to watch out for.

ZippyBungleandGeorge · 16/05/2019 22:22

Missing the point, but are you sure it's meth? Meth isn't that common in the UK, more likely to be crack and the needles for heroin

Gravelface · 16/05/2019 22:26

Um so. Other than the bin thing (which is kind of impressive cos I've a teeny kitchen and I don't reckon I could fit that into a wheelie bin, what with the council reducing the size of them now, and the amount of shit I buy to fill said tiny kitchen - potato ricer, why? Cucumber spiralizer, wtf? - it seems quite an impressive feat for a meth head)

How do you know its meth? I'm no expert so it might be obvious, not sure.

He stands around smoking drugs and looking at stuff. I don't really get how you think that means he will set your house on fire. That seems like....a leap.

Wauden · 16/05/2019 22:28

Another request here for a photo of the magnifying glass wall, pretty please.

Rachelle11 · 16/05/2019 22:31

Call the police when you see something and please keep your dogs inside! Dogs get hurt and stolen all the time.

steff13 · 16/05/2019 22:32

Why do people get touchy about dogs being outside? Many breeds are fine living outside and a lot of people here (in the countryside) keep their dogs outside, as long as they have shelter and access to water I don’t see the issue?

I think in an urban or suburban environment, they are not safe. Anyone could steal them or poison them or anything. This may just be a US thing, but people steal dogs from yards to use for bait for dog fighting.

Fossilised · 16/05/2019 22:32

I had a lovely fit neighbour over the road I would have liked to have seduced...memories...

He will set her house on fire with the magnifying glass wall pointed at her house...speak to Environmental Health at the council?

FannyWork · 16/05/2019 22:35

Okay, I can appreciate why you’re anxious but try to stay calm. He’s doing meth so he’s probably totally paranoid and much more scared of you than you are of him. He’s probably not going to break into your house because they tend to do that sort of thing a distance from their own home so it’s less obvious who did it. Get an anti tamper letterbox, a good smoke alarm, a London bar and a decent mortise lock.

Medievalist · 16/05/2019 22:35

Fail to see how so many posters can find humour in a post about someone who clearly has mental health issues.

Also concerned about the dogs (and the op hasn't responded to numerous questions about them being left outside all day).

MightyDonut · 16/05/2019 22:40

Well i would have thought it was easy. Simply saunter across there in a slinky negligee with a crack pipe in your hand. Wink

On a more serious note, if he has never actually threatened or abused you then i would think that you are pretty safe, that said however, if you do feel uncomfortable or wary then as others suggest, consider installing CCTV, they are cheap to buy nowadays.
Also have a word with the local police, perhaps they can keep an eye on him?
Do you have a neighbourhood watch?

On a side note, i also have electronic roller shutters on my windows and patio doors, nice upvc covered metal ones, mainly for the weather and noise rather than crime prevention. It's what i was brought up with back home.

pineapplepatty · 16/05/2019 22:42

Is he trying to start a fire with the magnifying glasses?

And what's he glued them with? I can't find a decent glue these days.

Tootyfilou · 16/05/2019 22:44

I feel sorry for your dogs. Its wrong to leave them outside all day.

steff13 · 16/05/2019 22:52

Gorilla Glue?

ILoveMaxiBondi · 16/05/2019 22:53

I wonder if he happened to have 15 magnifying glasses or did he go out and ‘acquire’ 15 magnifying glasses specifically to build his wall. I wonder why 15? Is that all he had/could fit in his pockets? Or does he have more but only needs 15 for this wall?

That will keep me awake tonight, you know.

I have to stand up for OP when it comes to dogs. Mine were always outside dogs. If the garden is a good size it's great for them. Much better than being locked inside imho. And if they are used to being outside, they won't bark at everything and all the time. If they have a good shelter, water and space, it's perfect.
Mine always came in in the evening or throughout the day if we were home for cuddles, treats and naps. We also spent loads of time outside with them. That's how it's done where I am from, mainly because we have big dogs and gardens.
They had heated doghouse as well😂 Like actual heating system my dad made because the winter is harsh there.

TheoriginalLEM · 16/05/2019 23:10

Youvegotafriendinme · 16/05/2019 23:15

@ILoveMaxiBondi nearly woke DS up laughing at this GrinGrin

AngelsOnHigh · 16/05/2019 23:16

Why would you have dogs inside? Unless it was a toy poodle or similar.

NunoGoncalves · 16/05/2019 23:40

Why?

NunoGoncalves · 16/05/2019 23:41

Yep. Mine stay outside all day and it's much better than being stuck in the house. More space, can go to the toilet whenever they want, easier to watch the world go by than stuck in a little house.

Grumpymug · 16/05/2019 23:53

Well I came here to tell you not to bother shagging the neighbour across the road, been there, done that and now it's all a bit awkward when I open my curtains and look directly over at his bedroom window...... Bloody good sex though. Nice guy too.
Anyway, report him if he actually does anything to police and report to the HA for anti social behaviour I suppose.
And I assumed the commar was a mistake...... 🤣

giggly · 17/05/2019 00:01

No needles required for smoking meth🤔 but I’m guessing your just guessing his drug of choice🙄
Can’t believe pp are telling you to call the police😂😂 every time he does something like seriously they have the time for an individual drug user off their face.
Maybe you could cook an extra portion of lasagna or something and leave it on his doorstep like a friendly neighbour 😂😂

category12 · 17/05/2019 05:49

easier to watch the world go by than stuck in a little house.

Yep, so they can bark the shit out of it, all bloody say.
