Not a pearl clutcher in general, but am in two minds on this one...

Yesterday on the (very crammed) train home there were a group of about a dozen blokes essentially effing and blinding and cunting at top volume all the way home, just generally being very vocally laddish and objectionable. Including having a great old joke at the "jumper" who had caused the problems the line that evening.

My little cousin was with me, but I still chickened out in contronting them and as per usual did the very British thing of seething impotently instead.

They were all in their company polo shirts.

Part of me really wants to contact their company and let them know about it. Part of me thinks I'm sounding like a grumpy old women before my time.

Looking to Mumsnetters to give my head a wobble either way on this!

Anyone who wonders why the OP didn't challenge a large group of loudmouthed men when she was responsible for a youngster hasn't been out the house much. I’d suggest that if you’re that triggered by banter you probably haven’t been out of the house at all!

JaneEyre07 · 16/05/2019 12:32

If my staff were doing that wearing their work clothing, I'd want to know.

Omzlas · 16/05/2019 12:33

They were (badly) representing their company as they were wearing their company's logo at the time

They were insensitive and vile

I'd report and I'm no pearl clutcher, there's a time and a place for everything

TheCatInTheSquare · 16/05/2019 12:33

This might be the normal culture at their work considering how many of them there were acting like that. Think you'd be wasting your time contacting their employer.

fromdownwest · 16/05/2019 12:33

Report a group of people for swearing, not being aggressive or intimidating, for what gain? Your own moral high ground.

Lovely prospect, to potentially put a group of men out of work, so they can not bring an income into their home, because you got offended by swearing.

Focus on your own life, and stop being so precious. If and when they break the law, then feel free to take them to town.

Disfordarkchocolate · 16/05/2019 12:33

I'd let the company know, companies do not want to have their name associated with this sort of behaviour.

bullyingadvice2017 · 16/05/2019 12:34

If I was in company uniform and behaved like that ( I wouldn't anyway) my first thought would be that I'd be sacked! If I was a boss and heard about it I would be very unhappy.

I do swear, however there's a time and a place. Or more importantly times you don't!
I rang the removal company I used that had two men moving me. Swearing and being obnoxious openly in front of my 85 year old nana. I was disgusted at the lack of respect.

BrokenWing · 16/05/2019 12:36

If you reported them to their company, all that would happen is they would probably be told to change out of their polo shirts before leaving work in the future. The behavior will still continue.

MallySally · 16/05/2019 12:36

I would have already reported them, and I wouldn't have confronted them. Do people not live in this current, aggressive climate?

Also they weren't just swearing, they were taking the piss out of someone who had committed suicide. Disgusting behaviour while representing a company.

SarfE4sticated · 16/05/2019 12:37

I fully sympathise OP, but I doubt your complaint would be taken very seriously. I was sat on the tube last night next to two young men discussing their sex lives in graphic detail on a packed commuter train. No-one said a word.
I feel like old rules of what you do in company don't apply any more.

Twillow · 16/05/2019 12:39

Sounds very unpleasant. Yes, do it. I would. They are representatives of their company while in that uniform in public.

Itwouldtakemuchmorethanthis · 16/05/2019 12:40

Just ask them to keep it down next time?

flumpybear · 16/05/2019 12:40

Personally I'd have confronted them if they seems the sort that wouldn't have punched me for doing so!!

As regards to contacting their offices, I'd probably just do it as them wearing the company logo means they're representing their company in public and really ought to be a bit more constrained on how they present their company, so yes I'd probably email the CEO and explain the foul language and volume and how if it was your own company you'd like to think the employees would behave in a manner expected by the company when brandishing their logo - because I'd want to know too as a business owner - even if it's just to say donwhst you like when it's just your reputation on the line but in my uniform you behave as I expect you to behave to colleagues and customers alike

NeatFreakMama · 16/05/2019 12:40

Nope don’t report them, there’s no reason. Adults swearing is up to them and a lot of commuters vent frustration about jumpers. It’s not sensitive but none of your business what they talk about. I also suspect their work wouldn’t care but seems crazy to think you have the right to do that.

LizB62A · 16/05/2019 12:40

I would contact whoever owns/runs the company.
I've done the same when it's been school students and would definitely do it for adults too, even just to make the point that I'd never do business with that company as I wouldn't want their employees in my office/home.

DantesInferno · 16/05/2019 12:41

If they were still in uniform, then they are still representing their company, so yes report

Stickywhitelovepiss · 16/05/2019 12:41

Part of the reason I haven't reported it is as I wouldn't want to jeopardise someone's livelihood - just have a reminder given that they are accountable in public too. I probably won't TBH.

It does make me livid that people can just behave as obnoxiously as they like these days without care or consequence.

Definitely becoming a grumpy old women - and I'm only in my thirties!!

Enb76 · 16/05/2019 12:46

I've reported people in vans throwing their bags full of rubbish out of windows, I'd probably report for this too! In company uniform/brand they are representing their place of work, if I employed them I'd want to know.

bellinisurge · 16/05/2019 12:47

You don't have to name the location or describe the men if you are squeamish. Tell the employer that you saw representatives from that company wearing company branded clothes behaving in a way that would put you off using that company.
A company pays thousands on branding and works hard on their reputation for some dicks to fuck it up in a few minutes. Which can risk the health of the company and ultimately lots of people's jobs.

relaxed2atee · 16/05/2019 12:48

I don't think you would jeopardise their livelihoods if you reported their behaviour (esp re suicide joke) op and I would report them in your position.
I they were my employees I would want to know.

SimplySteveRedux · 16/05/2019 12:48

It is in my work contract that I need to behave in an appropriate manner when being identifiable due to wearing my employer's branded workwear.

Same for DD, including being seen drinking alcohol...

Mummyoflittledragon · 16/05/2019 12:48

I would report them. They made fun of someone taking their own life.

Elphame · 16/05/2019 12:48

If I was their employer I would want to know.

I have frequently based my decisions on which local companies to employ based on the behaviour of their staff.

Disfordarkchocolate · 16/05/2019 12:49

I've reported poor driving twice, both companies were very responsive.

maddy68 · 16/05/2019 12:50

God no. Why didn't you just point out that their was a child !
