He’s not a man of the people- he’s one of the elite. He’s a wealthy ex broker who wants to privatise the NHS. He has earnt a massive salary as an MEP but barely turned up. He’s a con artist who is actually pretty racist and unsavoury.

Am tired of seeing him on TV - he cares nothing for the poor of this country. I wish he would go away never to be seen again.

Huggbear16 - what on earth makes you think I would vote Brexit Confused ? I'll be voting Lib Dem or Green next week. After nearly 40 years of voting Labour.

time4chocolate · 16/05/2019 09:26

It's a two horse race between Lib Dem and Brexit party surely? Any other vote is too woolly (and based on the last 3 years I don't think Labour or Cons deserve any votes tbh). It's going to be like another Ref on in/out. I'm assuming here that we are talking just about EP elections.

badlydrawnperson · 16/05/2019 09:48

There is a plethora of independent candidates on my MEP ballot - I have had precisely zero election communication from anyone. Also weirdly, UKIP are the only party that seems to have been able to place a slogan above their name?

Helmetbymidnight · 16/05/2019 09:51

oof so far Ive had leaflets from:
green, labour, lib dems, ukip and one from the english democrats - but only to read if youre english.Grin and lots of that was devoted to 'brexit-have we already left?'

Langrish · 16/05/2019 09:54

“I have had precisely zero election communication from anyone”.

I was horrified just yesterday to receive bumph from both the Brexit Party and TommyRobinson.co.uk, ffs! Not just leaflets but addressed to me, at my home address with my middle initial. Not my husband, just me!
I’ve had zilch from Change UK or LibDems, not even a flyer so they need to get their bloody acts together and quickly. I know how I’m voting but hth do they expect to engage the undecided or disengaged with radio silence?
I hope anyone who receives the nasty garbage I had through my letterbox yesterday does as I did, marks return to sender with appropriately worded message and puts it back in the box. I’ll have to catch the postman today and point out I didn’t request that hate porn!

Alsohuman · 16/05/2019 09:58

Who relies on leaflets these days? It’s all over mainstream and social media. You’d have to be a recluse in a cave not to know these elections are a referendum lite - Brexit Party = Leave, Libdem = Remain.

Helmetbymidnight · 16/05/2019 09:59

the racists love a leaflet through the door.

Gone2far · 16/05/2019 10:00

It's not a choice between voting Brexit or Labour. I'm not voting.
Also, in the last GE, the LD's were the only party to stand for remain. And they were slaughtered. What's different this time?

Helmetbymidnight · 16/05/2019 10:02

you're not voting to pick or guess a winner Grin youre voting for whom you think best represents you and your ideas.

ie not tommy robinson presumably.

SinisterBumFacedCat · 16/05/2019 10:02

He’s a twat. My DM thinks he’s great, along with Trump. This is my mum, who used to vote Labour and called herself a feminist. She bought her council house and now rents it out so she doesn’t have to work. And then blames all the immigrants for taking social housing away from British people.

Brexit voters have to become huge hypocrites to arrive at that decision.

Helmetbymidnight · 16/05/2019 10:04

oof thats painful, sinister. i know lots of people like that. some bizarrely still believe farage will save the nhs.

Alsohuman · 16/05/2019 10:04

What’s different this time is they’re Remainers’ best chance of making it clear how many of us there are. They were still being punished for their part in Cameron’s vile austerity coalition in the last GE.

Helmetbymidnight · 16/05/2019 10:07

if everyone voted on who won/did well last time, that would be very strange.

Langrish · 16/05/2019 10:07

Me. I don’t do social media, this is the only inter web thingy I’ve ever done. I think Facebook is just bizarre and seems to cause people much woe. WhatsApp and Instagram regularly have teens (and probably others) in years.
I listen to the radio, watch the news and read weekend papers so I’m fairly clear in my views. Working in the HoC many moons ago helped form them too (I pretty much did a u-turn).
Not everyone does though and people who use social media but aren’t the least engaged will flick past ads and posts without reading them. I’m not interested in shopping, I barely notice the irritating pop up ads on here any more. Most people glance through bullet points on coloured shiny paper though even if only on the way to the recycling.
Any party who assumes everyone does social media is much mistaken.

Langrish · 16/05/2019 10:09

Tears not years (see, tech cannot be relief upon Grin)

Langrish · 16/05/2019 10:09

Relied! Grrrrr I rest my bloody case.

Alsohuman · 16/05/2019 10:10

Mainstream media is pretty well wall to wall as well. Look at the number of people complaining about the amount of air time Farage is getting.

Helmetbymidnight · 16/05/2019 10:11

there is a point to leafletting for sure.

if i didnt get the crap through my letterbox, i might not realise how stupid the far right wing are- no i already knew that - but i might not have realised how great their threat is in my area...

greathat · 16/05/2019 10:13

I always vote labour, not any more. Lib Dem this time!

Ivegotthree · 16/05/2019 10:17

I like him and have joined his party and am going to vote for him.

Langrish · 16/05/2019 10:20

Yes and how effective their I would have thought small party machines appear to be, Robinson certainly. I probably have one of the lowest tech footprints in the country in my age group, no social media, nothing except this which doesn’t hold my address, don’t have subscriptions, I’m a charity shop officianado so don’t have any store cards etc.
I have the usual bank account, mortgage and insurances and pay utilities and council tax but surely they don’t flog names and addresses?
Anyway, I’m glad I received those leaflets if just to tell them to remove my name from their mailing lists. How the hell did they get it?

Alsohuman

I doubt if the Jeremy Kyle crew bother with the mainstream media news. as for social media, a young woman on the BBC news the other evening was stopped in the street of a town (Huddersfield, I think) where Nigel Farage was speaking. They asked her what she thought of him. She was about 25, carrying her phone, ideal social media target I would have thought. She had no idea who he was or what the Brexit party stood for.

SinisterBumFacedCat · 16/05/2019 10:36

Yes I had Brexit party leaflet addressed to me personally. DH thought it was hilarious! I specially avoid political sharing on Facebook because I don’t want to become a Russian bots target. But how the fuck do those Bastards know me and where I live?!?

Medievalist · 16/05/2019 10:38

DS2 also had a Brexit leaflet. No idea why him and not the other 5 adults in the house. He thought it was hilarious.

badlydrawnperson · 16/05/2019 10:48

@SininsterBumFacedCat

ico.org.uk/your-data-matters/electoral-register/

The full register is published once a year and is updated every month. It is used by electoral registration officers and returning officers across the country for purposes related to elections and referendums. Political parties, MPs and public libraries may also have the full register.

They know where you live :)

LordProfFekkoThePenguinPhD · 16/05/2019 10:49

My twitter feed was swamped with pro brexit tweets yesterday. I muted/blocked them all.
