Does anyone else get “fixated” on a celebrity?

Does anyone else get weirdly intense crushes on celebrities? I’m not even sure if crush is the right word but I go through phases where I watch everything an actors ever been in, read their interviews, that kind of thing. I’ve used the word fixated in the title because I can’t really think of how to describe it.

At the moment it’s Richard Armitage, it isn’t even a fancying him thing I just really really like him as a person. I’ve watched every interview, downloaded audio books, watched some utterly terrible films just because he’s in them..

Does anyone else do this? My friends never seem to (I don’t really talk about it though) and I was wondering if IABU to ask if other people do this too..? I mean obviously most celebrities have a fan base so it can’t be that unusual. I just feel a bit odd, like nobody else does this. It’s happens a few times a year with different people, I’m very fickle Grin

I’ve just started watching The Resident and Conrad Hawkins is my new obsession. He has this cheeky smile that makes my stomach do flips like a teen again!Blush

Ugh yeah Logan was the worst!

Mermummy13 · 16/05/2019 19:37

Yes!
Mine is Vicky McClure. I'm not gay I just love her 😂

buttyblahblah · 16/05/2019 19:47

Yes! I'm quite glad to hear other people do it too.

It was Jason Momoa but currently have a huge crush on Misha Collins from Supernatural. It's quite embarrassing really, DD caught me watching an old Larry King interview with him earlier.

I've even figured out how to use Tumblr just so I can save pictures and memes of him.

He's at a Comicon type thing in London at the end of the month and for £90 I could go and meet him and get a photo. Luckily reason prevailed before I booked a ticket, how would I explain to to DH? Sorry, just have to disappear for the weekend to drool over my new embarrassing obsession.

Hahaha, the Supernatural boys have a huge and obsessive following! Do you know about GISHWES that Misha runs (The Greatest Internet Scavanger Hunt The World Have Ever Seen)? I got roped in one year by a friend who is an obsessive.

Tumblr is definitely a good place for obsessing, even though if you’re me you’re old enough to be the mother of most of the users.

WeepingWillowWeepingWino · 16/05/2019 20:16

Who’s that Lenny? (don’t say Johnny Depp)

LennyBolardo yes he does seem lovely. And a good Dad, built his own house including making the planks himself...can you hear the madness yet?

I nearly signed up for GISH before remembering I am a not fun, middle aged suburban mom. Still might do it though, I got as far as downloading the app.

The FanFic is a whole new world to me. I had to get my niece to walk me through the websites, turns out it's pretty much all filthy but some is quite well written.

I think I need to get out more!

WeepingWillowWeepingWino · 16/05/2019 20:26

Oh dear! Grin

buttyblahblah · 16/05/2019 20:28

weepingwillow I know!

Was GISH fun?

I'm hoping I'm just having a rush of hormones and I'll calm down soon. Maybe it's the peri menopause coming out in a new and interesting way.

buttyblahblah · 16/05/2019 20:30

Sorry willow realised you were replying to Lenny. It could be a lot worse than Jude Law!

Yes! I have a very intense crush on an actor. It has led me to writing fanfiction and running a blog. I've also made a very good online friend as a result. I enjoy it, it's harmless and gives my obsessive nature a focus. It would never spill into stalking or anything Shock I do suspect I have ASD tendencies and my interest is absolutely an "escape from reality" thing. I always had intense crushes etc as a teen and am quite all-or-nothing as a person. This has been 2.5 years and counting so far.

TooOldForThisWhoCares · 16/05/2019 20:43

P.s I am 43. It's quite embarassing really.

BlueJava · 16/05/2019 20:48

No I don't, but I have read everything that Haruki Murakami has ever published! Some of it more than three times.

WeepingWillowWeepingWino · 16/05/2019 20:53

butty I was the most rubbish GISHer the world has ever seen. It’s a full on undertaking. In fact, I contributed precisely nothing to the tram I’d been added to - it didn’t help that I’d never seen Supernatural!

TooOld I’m 47 Blush. Though at least that’s the same age as Richard Armitage, and younger than Mads, and only 8 years older than Lee, so it could be worse.

buttyblahblah · 16/05/2019 21:03

I feel strangely vindicated by you all so thank you!

I guess it's pretty harmless really, but I do think I do it to escape from boring life and lacklustre relationship.

Incidentally I'm 42, I really thought I would have grown out of this sort of thing by now.

WeepingWillowWeepingWino · 16/05/2019 21:07

Did any of you see this thread a few months ago? www.mumsnet.com/Talk/am_i_being_unreasonable/3494415-To-ask-if-anyone-on-here-suffers-from-mal-adaptive-daydreaming-And-would-they-like-to-talk-about-how-it-effects-them-and-the-things-they-do-to-deal-with-it

My obsessions are very tied in with my maladaptive daydreaming.

buttyblahblah · 16/05/2019 21:14

Yes I remember reading that thread.

I have long running daydreams about my obsessions, often quite involved and detailed, definitely an escape from reality.

TooOldForThisWhoCares · 16/05/2019 21:22

Yes the maladaptive daydreaming thing also makes sense. In a way I can make a connection with my interest becoming TOO all-encompassing and when my mental health is taking a nose-dive. I've recently started anti depressants and feel less "obsessive" now, and the interest in him is more like a hobby if that makes sense? Some people are just more obsessive than others but as long as we're aware of it, it provides an outlet IMO.

Crazycatlady10 · 16/05/2019 21:57

Wow reading that I think I definitley do that. I’m 27, it’s been bad since I was a child and watched Mary poppins twice a day (if anyone I know reads this I’m definitely outed!) I run through imaginary scenarios constantly.

I had quite a severe illness as a child and I wonder if I developed the obsessive traits as a way of coping.

Richard Armitage is still great so i maintain my fixation on him is valid 😂

buttyblahblah · 16/05/2019 21:58

TooOld that makes sense.

I find it makes me generally happier having a secondary life going on, I've always done it. Possibly slightly distracted at times but more able to cope with everything else.

I spend a lot of time in my head though and that might not be the best idea.
