Does anyone else get “fixated” on a celebrity?

Does anyone else get weirdly intense crushes on celebrities? I’m not even sure if crush is the right word but I go through phases where I watch everything an actors ever been in, read their interviews, that kind of thing. I’ve used the word fixated in the title because I can’t really think of how to describe it.

At the moment it’s Richard Armitage, it isn’t even a fancying him thing I just really really like him as a person. I’ve watched every interview, downloaded audio books, watched some utterly terrible films just because he’s in them..

Does anyone else do this? My friends never seem to (I don’t really talk about it though) and I was wondering if IABU to ask if other people do this too..? I mean obviously most celebrities have a fan base so it can’t be that unusual. I just feel a bit odd, like nobody else does this. It’s happens a few times a year with different people, I’m very fickle Grin

I love Hannibal. It’s fucking intense. I mainly watch it for a Mads fix. And specifically Mads being a bit gay with Hugh Dancy. Blush

I just couldn’t get it, really loathed it. Found it pretentious but hard to understand. Salem was similar, had no fucking clue what was going on. Actually the lead actress in Salem was someone I found fascinating, she was excellent but the rest of the show was absolute garbage

I think if I saw one of the objects of my obsessions I couldn't go over to them or ask for a picture or autograph. I would literally hide!

WeepingWillowWeepingWino · 17/05/2019 07:57

Mads being gay with Hugh is definitely a highlight Grin. Delish.

Crazycatlady10 · 17/05/2019 08:01

I have the funniest story I just remembered (which is incredibly outing so I’m not going to use the actors name just so it doesn’t show on google). I was really obsessed with gossip girl and I had to have an assessment for my illness to get support at uni (relevant). The educational psychologist was Chuck bass’s bloody mum!! She mentioned him a few times and I was grinning ear to ear trying not to freak out, she must have thought I was very very strange.

Oh and I pretended like I didn’t know who he was, my mum emailed her afterwards asking if she was his mum! And she replied “yes I am, I hope crazycat enjoys gossip girl!” All my cool cred blown Blush

I have had super obsessions in the past. A lot of the same people already mentioned in this thread, so Benedict Cumberbatch, which is a natural reaction to the Sherlock Holmes character, I also fancy Jeremy Brett as Sherlock Holmes.

Tom Hiddleston as Loki, totally fuelled by his Comic Con appearance when was in character talking to the crowd.

Richard Armitage in North and South, gosh darn it.

I know everything there is to know about James Cagney and Marilyn Monroe.

These days if an actor is catching my eye in a drama I might look them up to check if they are age appropriate for me! For example I'm getting the thrills from Steven Graham in "In the line of Duty", love him in this and have been watching him for years in all sorts but this role for some reason has me all a flutter.

If they turn out to be more than 10 years younger than me I feel annoyed, so Kylo Ren for example , Adam Driver is a bit tricky as he is just outside of the limit.

Kylo Ren fans please check out a channel called "Girls with Sabers" on Youtube. They talk some very intellectual stuff about the new Star Wars and they have drawn some fascinating literary parallels with North and South and other romantic lead characters.

SleepingSloth · 17/05/2019 10:53

If I like someone like an actor or singer, then I do watch lots of their interviews on YouTube. I have to know if they're nice before I can 'like' them....lol.

WeepingWillowWeepingWino · 17/05/2019 12:15

I do the opposite - I watch as little as possible of interviews just in case they turn out to be a massive disappointment!

WeCameToDance · 17/05/2019 12:49

Ohh, I'm almost sad about the lack of love for Hannibal on here. I thought it was brilliant and really want a fourth series! Well apart from the horrifying pig bit, could have done without that.
Crazycatlady10 his actual real life mum? How did you know? Did she just drop it into conversation casually? I'm intrigued!

Crazycatlady10 · 17/05/2019 12:51

Yep his real mum, I knew beforehand as her surname was westwick and he’s from the town where I saw her, when I googled him it came up that his mum was an Ed psych. When I met her it was confirmed, she’s his double! Then she said her son was an actor and had taken her to the theatre to see Jude law.

Thats mad! I think I would have pretended I didn't know who she was talking about and fail at it miserably. Either way I would be completely distracted by knowing who her son was and not be able to concentrate on much else!
Mind you I only made it about halfway through Gossip Girl, not because I didn't enjoy it but because there is so much of it!

dustarr73 · 17/05/2019 13:22

@ArtisanPopcorn Mine is Madonna,I obsess over her.Shes my idol and i have been a fan for 36 years.

DarlingNikita · 17/05/2019 13:23

I get these all the time. I don't think I've ever grown out of being a teenager, basically.

I had a longish fascination with Tom Hiddleston, but the Taylor Swift thing killed it. I do still like him as an actor but (thank God) the obsessive stuff has gone.

Not a crush or obsession, but a while ago I watched Anna Maxwell Martin in a few things and loved her, so I went to see a production of King Lear where she was either Regan or Goneril. She wasn't very good Sad and that killed it a bit. I did love her when she turned up in Line of Duty though, so maybe she's better on screen or she was having an off-day.

ArtisanPopcorn · 17/05/2019 13:33

@dustarr73 I'm glad I'm not the only one. That's an impressive amount of time! The person I'm a fan of is nowhere near as famous as Madonna. In fact most UK people probably wouldn't recognise her name, more likely to recognise the name of a character she played. It's quite nice though as when she tweets you know it's her and there's only a small group of hardcore fans on Twitter so we get to know each other quite well!

Crazycatlady10 · 17/05/2019 13:35

I did pretend I had no idea, my mum blew my cover! I just pretended to be interested that her son was an actor (I’m a big theatre fan) and asked what kind of acting he did. I was v subtle 😂 my mum is not

@ArtisanPopcorn IM in loads of FB pages about Madonna and i have loads of Twitter friends i obsess with.So its all good

FiddleFigs · 17/05/2019 15:12

I had a Richard Amitage phase - so brooding in N&S

Currently massively crushing on Matthew Goode. (DH is astonished that my crushes are always on such “normal” men.)

I’m always torn between wanting to read interviews and not wanting to know anything, in case it ruins my daydreams.

WeepingWillowWeepingWino · 17/05/2019 15:14

there is nothing normal about Richard !!! He is a very tall, rather grumpy god in human form.

He really does seem to be the number one object of obsessing, doesn't he?

dustarr73 · 17/05/2019 15:27

I dont get the love about Richard Armitage sorry.Hes very plain looking

WeepingWillowWeepingWino · 17/05/2019 15:36

well, that's your opinion and I suppose you're entitled to it WinkGrin.

But the voice! What about that, hey?! The man's not the King of Audible for nothing, y'know!

Crazycatlady10 · 17/05/2019 15:39

I think it’s a combination of the dark hair, the big nose and that voice. King of audible indeed. There is something very normal about him (more in the 2000s as I think he’s started taking care of himself a bit more as he gets older..) but at the same time something quite..other? About him. Maybe because he’s very private and quite aloof?

I do this too. Mine for the last little while has been Tom Ellis as I started binge-watching Lucifer. Before that was Jack Black for some reason.

Crazycatlady10 · 17/05/2019 16:11

Ooh I loved Tom Ellis in Miranda. Not watched lucifer, might check that out this weekend as I see it’s on Netflix now
