Does anyone else get “fixated” on a celebrity?

Does anyone else get weirdly intense crushes on celebrities? I’m not even sure if crush is the right word but I go through phases where I watch everything an actors ever been in, read their interviews, that kind of thing. I’ve used the word fixated in the title because I can’t really think of how to describe it.

At the moment it’s Richard Armitage, it isn’t even a fancying him thing I just really really like him as a person. I’ve watched every interview, downloaded audio books, watched some utterly terrible films just because he’s in them..

Does anyone else do this? My friends never seem to (I don’t really talk about it though) and I was wondering if IABU to ask if other people do this too..? I mean obviously most celebrities have a fan base so it can’t be that unusual. I just feel a bit odd, like nobody else does this. It’s happens a few times a year with different people, I’m very fickle Grin

I do this but with female celebs. I'll see a hairstyle or fashion look on someone and then by the end of the night I know their film/TV history on IMDb and have several pics of them off Pinterest saved onto an inspiration board or something. This all sounds so sad typed out Blush

origami join us in our sadness!

Crazycatlady10 · 16/05/2019 22:07

It’s so nice to see how many people think like me. Sometimes when I was younger I’d feel like a weirdo because nobody else seemed to focus on one thing.

Im watching north and south right now for the 80000th time and I admit it with pride 😂

@buttyblahblah Haha I can't hide it any longer Grin

Game of thrones has so many gorgeous people on it. I love Lena Heady, I think she’s amazing.

Yes this! I followed her on Twitter and most of one of my Pinterest boards was full with photos of her at one point. I actually watched loads of comic con panel videos with her on as well, she's a really cool person GrinBlush

Crazycatlady10 · 16/05/2019 22:11

She’s definitley someone I would love to be mates with but she’s way too cool for me 😂

Continuing to read through the thread...

and executions too, I find myself researching into those a lot.

This rung a bell. I think I may have an obsessive personality... I saw a programme on Marie-Antoinette and how she accidentally stepped on the executioner's foot and apologised Sad and it triggered an obsession, I actually feel like I know everything about her now.

Oh I just embrace my weirdness these days, Crazycat. It's liberating. There's a whole world of fandom out there I didn t know existed. It's like a wonderful porthole to another world. If access to this stuff had been around when I was a teenager it would have blown my mind. So I enjoy it now! The woman I am friends with is the same age as me too.

Crazycatlady10 · 16/05/2019 22:24

I met one of my previous obsessions (it’s someone from game of thrones but before they were on GoT). I held it together well but saw him again two days later and can only describe myself as giddy and deffo looked like a stalker (both times were at different events, not outside his house or anything). My obsession cooled off after that but I look back on it fondly, he was a really nice guy.

I’ve been involved in so many fandoms over the years that I’ve made lots of friends through them, it is really lovely to connect with people who love stuff with the same enthusiasm 💕

I don’t know if I’d like to meet any of them and actually talk to them but I would love to see them in RL, sort of from a distance if that makes sense. I love watching behind the scenes stuff with them in.

I think I would like to meet Lee Pace the most, because he’s my major obsession and he seems lovely and gentle and quiet and he’s an absolute giant (6’5!!!) which would be intriguing as I am a hobbit. I think he would be a darling.

I have this too. I wonder if I know you crazycatlady..... Grin

TooOldForThisWhoCares · 16/05/2019 22:32

Haha Lenny, if you over think, then so do I! Over thinking is part and parcel of this kind of interest! It's part of the appeal! However, like I said before, it's also a way of monitoring my MH, personally, if I get too down about things to do with it?

Crazycatlady10 · 16/05/2019 22:39

Maybe it cooled because I’d achieved the ultimate goal? Haha. I don’t know it was like there was nowhere else to go. I treasure the memory though he was absolutely lovely (it’s the guy who plays Ramsay Bolton, have totally outed myself now 😂)

I would probably not dare to say a word to Richard Armitage but would love to see him from a distance 😂

Also yes I do get down on my looks - not being thin enough or pretty enough, mainly when I was younger. I’ve got a lot more confidence now so I think they’d love me 😂 it’s my fantasy so I can think that haha

Richard would be terrifying.

I would have thought seeing your favourite as Ramsay Bolton would be enough to put you off him forever. It’s an interesting point, could your obsession (if it’s an actor) survive them playing an absolutely hateful character like that? Would you just refuse to watch that show or film?

He’s a really fantastic actor so I was so happy he got a big break in GoT and weirdly proud of all his success. Don’t really fancy him anymore (when I met him I was 18, it was way back in 2009 and I fancied anything with a pulse 😂) but still follow his career.

I love seeing actors get evil, David Tennant as Kilgrave, RA as whatever his name is in god awful Hannibal (I honestly hate that show so much but watched the third series for him), I think it just makes me admire them more..?

TooOldForThisWhoCares · 16/05/2019 22:50

"My" actor (cringe) plays almost exclusively unhinged/weird/dysfunctional characters and it certainly doesn't put me off..another part of the appeal tbh Blush

Does anyone obsess about one person long-term? And a woman? I mean in an 'I want to be her best friend way' rather than fancying her! Some of the other women on Twitter who are fans of the same person as me have been fans for nearly 20 years and she's still at least 70% of what they tweet about!

WeepingWillowWeepingWino · 17/05/2019 07:13

I started watching Hannibal just so I could watch RA in season 3 but gave up part way through season 2. Great actors but bloody hell!

Crazycatlady10 · 17/05/2019 07:33

Just skip to his bits in season 3. Tbh it’s really not great and (though I feel mean saying this) RA really struggles to do American accents. A lot of the time in Berlin station he just sounds like he’s english with a twang.

My obsessions do move from person to person and do tend to be men, but I always have a soft spot for a previous obsess-ee
