Furry Wedding Invitation

suze1080 · 12/05/2019 10:29

DP and I have been invited to a Furry wedding. For those of you that don't know, furries like to dress as anthropomorphized animal characters; I think the bride is an ocelot or something. According to the invite, dressing in costume is 'preferred' (not sure if the pun was intended). AIBU to be reluctant to spend a day surrounded by a group of fur-suited wedding guests? Particularly as neither DP or I have any interest in dressing up ourselves.

Serin omg! That’s going to be one of those stories you’ll blurt out the kids when they’re adults and you’re drunk. 🤣 Or their dad can save it then tell it at the wedding speech.

Having clarified matters with the happy couple it seems it's very much a friends wedding rather than family (so no elderly relatives) and of those friends about half are 'hardcore' who will be in the full 'fursona', and the rest can join in or not as they see fit. As fursuits are indeed pricey furry accessories are an entirely acceptable nod towards the scene if that's what you fancy.
DP says she's up for it and is going to get us both tails.

’DP says she's up for it and is going to get us both tails.’
Each to their own.

IDontDrinkTea · 12/05/2019 22:30

God; I opened this thread thinking it was going to be about a wedding invite printed on faux fur rather than paper.

You’ve certainly widened my horizons this evening. Although perhaps this is one of those occasions where ignorance is bliss Hmm

SteveTheSpiderPlant · 12/05/2019 22:39

Are the tails those butt plugs with a tail sticking off it Shock

Take this as a warning all mothers.

Buy your children sylvanian animals NOW while you can, or your poor deprived children will grow up having to BECOME Sylvanians to make up for the dreadful childhood deficit.
I know they are madly expensive, but please, think of the children,

FFS C8H10N4O2, I was planning on going to bed early and you go and show that. I’m going to be up half the night chuckling. I’m so childish. Grin

MrJollyLivesNextDoor · 13/05/2019 00:23

A fucking ocelot!

Like you do

Wormentrude · 13/05/2019 00:37

So, will the bride be just an au naturel ocelot, or will the bride be an ocelot in its wedding finery (veil, tiara, etc.)?

KissUntilTheyDieOfRabies · 13/05/2019 01:21

Furries are a bunch of fun. I used to know a lot of furries and dabbled in the scene for a bit.

My eldest likes that sort of thing too.

I don't see why not to go. You don't have to dress up.

KC225 · 13/05/2019 01:26

OP you can pick up old 20s/40s fox furs on eBay for about 20/30 quid.

Have fur - I mean fun.

thefirstmrsdewinter · 13/05/2019 01:27

Who the fuck wants to go to a wedding where you would end up sat next to someone dressed as Yogi Bear with a monster hard on?

Say you can't go as you will be moulting.

5foot5 · 13/05/2019 13:44

Oh wow! I read a novel recently that featured furries Anyone for Seconds by Laurie Graham but until this thread I had no idea that they really existed. I thought she had just made it up.

I think I would go if I could hire a costume relatively cheaply

bigbadbadger · 13/05/2019 13:53

A cousin worked at a huge Florida convention centre and said Furrys were one of the few groups they made book the entire hotel facility if they wanted to stay. Apparently they had sex in public spaces and also used 'litter boxes' in their rooms. The mind boggles.

FizzyGreenWater · 13/05/2019 14:02

Global warming and mass human extinction is the very least we deserve. I despair.

whatsthecomingoverthehill · 13/05/2019 14:19

I know someone involved in the LGBTQI+ (I've probably offended someone by not using the current 'correct' terminology) group for a large company. One of the sub-groups that they supposedly have to now cater for is the furries. Oh, and apparently there's a few other people under the umbrella because they have a 'kink lifestyle'. I'm not quite sure what catering for such people actually means in practice.
