So I have just been watching a documentary about Becky watts murder and everything about it was so shocking.

OP posts:

Conflicted!

CSIblonde · 16/05/2019 16:21

James Bulger - their age, level of violence & the fact that both were well known to social services & were falling thru the cracks in the system already.

Logan Marr, murdered by her Canadian social worker Foster mother who duct taped her face, then her body to a chair & left her to suffocate. She was only in social care due to her GM disagreeing with her mother's boyfriend choices (no actual abuse).
Sylvia Likens in the 50's tortured & killed by the woman (& her teens) her travelling family left her with. The autopsy report made me feel physically sick.

Pinkflipflop85 · 16/05/2019 18:32

@Ellabella989 I believe they wait for so long due to the lengthy and complicated appeals process.

MiMiMaguire · 17/05/2019 11:02

Theres a murder trial on here in Ireland at the moment, 2 fourteen year old boys on trial for murdering a teenage girl Anna Kriegl, she had few friends by all accounts, one boy called to her house to come out with him under the premise of "setting her up" with his friend, her father reports waving her off smiling. She was taken to abandoned grounds in the area where the other boy was waiting and met a very violent sexual assault & murder at their hands, it seems they wore horror type masks. One boys internet history showed recent searches for most gruesome torture methods and for abandoned warehouses in the area.. so seems premeditated.
Horrific for her family, horrific for her, doing normal teenage things weve all done, trusting that boy. These boys names arent being released, they are Boy A & Boy B.. whats frightening also is im sure they'll get ridiculous sentences and be out in 10 years or so.. whose to say any of our daughters may meet them out and start a relationship completely oblivious to their past. Their identities should be revealed.

Ellabella989 · 17/05/2019 11:26

Some of the kids who commit murder in America get life without parole sentences (Joshua Phillips who murdered a girl when he was about 13 and he has been giving that sentence). UK sentencing seems a bit of a joke in comparison

EmeraldShamrock · 17/05/2019 11:36

MiMiMaguire it is heatbreaking how she lead to her death.
I an shocked how callous convincing and confident, Boy A. Dragging her family through the courts, she put up a hard fight Sad
He better be named at 16, he'll probably be out at 22.
Very dangerous individual.

EmeraldShamrock · 17/05/2019 11:39

Another recent horrendous one a young lad with cerebral palsy, was murdered, stabbed 100 times by a 15 year old with his big gang behind him.
Thankfully he was named at 16.

Shefliesonherownwings · 17/05/2019 11:45

I saw a documentary about Shannon Christian and her boyfriend years ago and I still think of them now. They were just in the wrong place at the wrong time and suffered horribly. Such a waste of young lives.

DH and I watched the Zac Efron film about Ted Bundy and did not rate it at all, we turned if off halfway in. Much prefer the Ted Budy tapes for a great insight into his mindset.

Ellabella989 · 17/05/2019 11:49

The Channon Christian case with her boyfriend was brutal. She was found hog tied and suffocated in a trash can covered in injuries.

Why didn’t you rate the Zac Efron Ted Bundy film? I’m meant to be seeing it at the cinema later but if it’s rubbish I won’t bother

JQBased · 17/05/2019 12:04

Channon Christian and Christopher Newsom

I've read some shocking crimes and watched shocking footage, most of my family are in the police and have detailed horrific events...This by far is the most horrific I have known outside of mass murders.

x2boys · 17/05/2019 12:10

There was a murder local to me over a decade ago a fourteen year old boy murdered an 11 yr old boy ,they went to the same school(incidentally my old school many years after i left ) the fourteen yr old somehow lured the 11_yr old to his house ,the younger boy had cystic fibrosis so I think was smaller and probably weaker than a typical 11 yr old awful murder I wonder why some murders are such high profile and others not?

JQBased · 17/05/2019 12:15

The Zac Efron film re:Ted Bundy does nothing tbh that hasn't been shown in the court footage you can find on YouTube and interviews also found on YouTube. It doesn't really offer anything new and most of the film is based on simply what his ex wife stated loosely what happened. I didn't get anything from it that I haven't already seen/heard in actual footage.

OccidentalPurist · 17/05/2019 12:18

I also still think about the Petit murders - so awful.
There is a documentary on YouTube about it.

One of the things that shocked me is that they were a comfortably off family in a nice neighbourhood that had been targeted by the killers after one of them had seen the younger daughter in a supermarket with the mum. It was like he was overcome with desire for her and resentment of their status.

Like so many horrific murders nowadays, they were high on drugs when they did it, which seems to make them so much more savage.

Shefliesonherownwings · 17/05/2019 12:22

@Ellabella989 we just didn't find Zac Efron particularly convincing in the role. It jumped all over the place and was more focused on the ex girlfriend than him and the crines so we found it quite dull. We watched it on Sky Cinema ajd would have been annoyed if we'd paid for it.

dustarr73 · 17/05/2019 15:15

Graham Dwyer murdered Elaine O Hara and nearly got away with it.

RuggerHug · 17/05/2019 16:28

Elaine O'Haras murder. Horrific and what adds to the horror is how close Graham O'Dywer came to getting away with it.

RuggerHug · 17/05/2019 16:47

dustarr73 hadn't seen your post when I replied, did it when I saw it mentioned upthread!

dustarr73 · 17/05/2019 16:59

@RuggerHug Its grand i forgive youGrin

Its weird when you think of it,how close he came to getting away with it.

Ereshkigal · 17/05/2019 17:06

Mary Ann Leneghan and her friend. I don't know why but I've never been able to forget it.

Yes I remember that.

ddl1 · 17/05/2019 17:33

All child murders, but I think the ones that upset me the most were Sandy Hook, and long ago, Dunblane. Senseless massacres.

MadamMMA · 17/05/2019 17:53

The worst thing is thinking of the pain, fear and incomprehension a child who is abused and murdered goes through, Albert Fish’s four year old victim was abducted stripped and left alone all night before he went back to do what he did, unbearable. In cases where kids are abused by their parents I always imagine them waking up with hope that it’d be the day that their parents care and with Madeleine McCann I think definitely paedophile ring and in a way I hope she is dead and at peace rather than being passed around like a toy for all these years. Unbearable all of it

70isaLimitNotaTarget · 17/05/2019 19:00

I don't think their criminal activities ended in murder but as near as dammit - the "Devil Brothers" from Doncaster .

Unspeakably hideous homelife leading to 2 very damaged boys who went on to commit henious crimes . Only stopped short of murder because their "arms got tired"

They were not named publicly after the Venables/Thompson exposure .

Though they knew 100% what they were doing and on the day of the 2nd attack they should've been at the Police Station being charged for a previous attack.

Their parents should have faced court too .

hardyloveit · 17/05/2019 19:40

The new Ted Bundy movie was from the view of his girlfriend so wasn't going to be from teds point of view with the killings etc
I've watched and read extensive information regarding Ted Bundy and zac efron portrayed him extremely well in my opinion.

hardyloveit · 17/05/2019 20:22

CSIBlonde
I had never heard of Sylvia Likens - I've just googled and omg that poor girl! I also can't believe the abusers and killers got so little time in jail! However nearly all of them have died relatively young - good!

CSIblonde · 17/05/2019 23:06

Hardyloveit
It was made into a film The Girl Next Door which is how I discovered it. Gertrude served her prison sentence then died at 72 of cancer i think. Her daughter later tried to get a job as a teaching assistant but was sacked when her crime came to light.
