To think this country has the best weather?

I honestly feel like the UK has the best weather. Not too cold, not too hot and almost always manageable. I am baffled by people who complain. I used to live in California and the heat waves could be intense, with very expensive air conditioning bills and I don't miss the burning sensation you could get when you touched a black steering wheel or sat on hot leather of a car that was parked outside. I have also spent time in Lapland and lived in Minnesota, so I know what it's like to step outside in to a cold that is painful.

AIBU to think there is no reason to complain about the weather here? I love it!

I think it’s ace that we get EVERYTHING.

Snow, hail, rain, sleet.
Warm days, mild days, super hot days.
Sometimes we wake up with frost, other days we step out the door into warmth.

I had a friend who was from Oz, and saw snow for the first time at 36 years old. Amazed me!

Aintnon · 10/05/2019 14:12

Haha, I always say this about my home country (Sweden). I think the weather there is perfect:
Winter - cold enough to get lots of snow to go skiing, snowmobiling, ice skating etc but not that cold that you can't go outside.
Summer - hot enough for shorts and t-shirts and to swim in lakes, but not so hot that you can't bear it.

I love British summers but I think winters are a bit meh, just grey, wet and windy.

GoodPlaceJanet · 10/05/2019 14:13

I agree! Proper seasons and all the rain makes for lovely gardens Smile

lhw92 · 10/05/2019 14:14

Agreed! I have a chronic skin condition which flares up in hot or too cold weather, so I’m grateful to live in a mild climate Smile

MissPhonic · 10/05/2019 14:15

Love it! Love the seasons, the anticipation that comes with packing wardrobes away for winter and bringing out the woolies. We have very few days that are a total write-off (e.g. heavy rain all day) and those are a lovely excuse to snuggle down and eat stew and dumplings.
I wouldn't live anywhere else!

AnnaComnena · 10/05/2019 14:15

Our weather conditions make it possible to create beautiful gardens, grow loads of different crops and give us our lovely green countryside and woodlands.

I don't like very hot weather. So yes, I agree with you!

Yabbers · 10/05/2019 14:15

Difficult to refer to the weather in this country, as what is in the SE is different to Scotland.

It's May and 7 degrees. That's not good.

I like that it is changeable but would like a shorter winter for sure. Also, SE winters are damp and horrible. I'd love SE summer but Scottish proper cold snowy winters.

MereDintofPandiculation · 10/05/2019 14:15

I like the way it may be rubbish in the morning but you can still have hope that it will clear up for the afternoon.

wellballstoyou · 10/05/2019 14:15

i like we have seasons. a nice mixture.

AhoyDelBoy · 10/05/2019 14:16

Yeh, I live in Australia (a humid part) and just today I said to DP I want to move somewhere with actual seasons. So so SO sick of sticky heat 9 months of the year. If the UK is like that weather wise it sounds perfect!

PickAChew · 10/05/2019 14:16

I agree. The only thing I could do with a bit less of is the wind. OK do we tend not to get hurricanes but it's a rare week when we don't have a few days with wind strong enough to make my head feel a bit spacy.

BendydickCuminsnatch · 10/05/2019 14:16

I agree! Absolutely love it. A bit of everything but no extremes. Today the school run was lovely and warm, then came home and listened to a hail storm on the conservatory roof 🤗 love it!

Still18atheart · 10/05/2019 14:16

I like the British climate. However, I don’t like the fact that you can’t plan ahead if you want to do something outdoors or you need a back up plan.
For instance it’s summer, let’s have a bbq and invite people round for a Saturday in 3 weeks time . Instead it’s let’s have people round if it’s decent weather we will have bbq. But even then it could be a wash out

AnnaComnena · 10/05/2019 14:24

Also, SE winters are damp and horrible.

I'm in the SE. We do get some very bright sunny winter days which are great for walking, as one doesn't get hot and sticky. Only problem is the winter days are so short, but that's balanced out by the long late spring and summer evenings.

BrownEnvelopeWoman · 10/05/2019 14:30

Imagine living somewhere where you didn't get that amazing rush when it stops raining and the sun comes out. Driving around the Challock/Chilham area this morning in the sunshine was just soul-restoring, beautiful beautiful country, made even greener by the rain earlier this week.
Pissing rain now.

MangosteenSoda · 10/05/2019 14:33

I don't like it. Today for example, it's May and it's cold and wet where I am. I don't mind cold and I don't mind wet, but I hate them together. I find there's too much 'meh' weather here. Grey, damp, indistinguishable from one season to the next.

I do like seasons though. The place where I last moved from had four proper seasons with a short, mostly dry, cold winter, a temperate and fairly bright spring, a hot summer which was also the rainy season but had plenty of dry days and a lovely long sunny autumn. I liked the variety and the balance of having more dry, bright days than cold, damp ones.

Gentlemanwiththistledownhair · 10/05/2019 14:35

I agree with pp that Sweden has a better climate. It's like ours in that they experience every weather condition, but usually in a more predictable way because they don't usually have to worry about the gulf stream so much.

And when it snows in Sweden the ground is usually cold enough that it's not slippy. I love Sweden!

Drogosnextwife · 10/05/2019 14:35

I like the weather here (Scotland). No water shortages, plenty of green trees and grass, get sunshine sometimes and I can't cope with the heat anyway so tend to prefer the winter or cooler months.

TapasForTwo · 10/05/2019 14:35

We get too many cold, grey days where I live on the edge of the Pennines. So I disagree. Currently 10 degrees and raining where I am. I loved last summer though.

jameswong · 10/05/2019 15:26

Yabu. Awful weather.

Lottapianos · 10/05/2019 15:30

I quite like our weather too. I ADORE the changing seasons. I know someone who lives in the Middle East and the weather all year round is just different versions of roasting hot. So dull. We hardly ever get extreme weather, its generally fairly comfortable, not painfully freezing or unbearably hot

Jsmith99 · 10/05/2019 15:37

The British weather has been very pleasant indeed over the last year. Here in the Midlands we had a fantastic summer followed by a very mild winter, then a very dry spring.

We will all feel very different if this summer turns out to be a wash-out....

SmarmyMrMime · 10/05/2019 15:46

I like our seasons (although winter is twice as long as necessary) and variations in weather. There's something slightly unsettling if it does the same thing more than 3 days in a row Grin

We do have far too much grey, humid weather, and we do specialise in a particular damp, bone chilling cold. I'd rather be in a fresh, crisp dry -5oC than a dampish, greyish 5oC. Our weather doesn't commit to conditions such as snow very well either!

There is a reason why the British and Irish are famed for small talking about the weather!

adaline · 10/05/2019 15:48

Totally depends on where you live!

ManeChanged · 10/05/2019 15:48

It’s too grey here. The temps are ok but the lack of sunlight can be very hard going. Think how much your mood lifts on a blue sky day.
