To think if a zombie apocalypse happened, that there would not be an immediate breakdown in law?

In any zombie apocalypse film ever, within days there are roving dangerous gangs killing people and stealing things. I don't think this would happen in Britain. Yes there would be thefts of food, and lots of breaking into shops, but no there would not in days be gangs of roving murderers killing people and bringing fear.

You’ve never been to Jaywick have you?

JaneJeffer · 08/05/2019 14:49

YABU. Zombies need to eat brains!

clairemcnam · 08/05/2019 14:51

Oh I know the zombies would be after us.

Are you kidding? Remember the riots in 2011. People would go crazy.

livin · 08/05/2019 14:52

YABU. The murderous gangs are there to steal resources and land in order to keep and maintain their piles of resources. Give it three months without a main supply of food, water, petrol etc and most of the population gone and that's how humans operate. We're animals designed to work together in teams for survival. The more people alive and roaming around with resources = the less for us and our team.

SinjunRivers · 08/05/2019 14:52

Of course it would. Very quickly

DianaPrincessOfThemyscira · 08/05/2019 14:53

I think it would. I’ve thought extensively about this and have a plan. I’ve not put any of it into place mind you, but I have a plan!

Biker47 · 08/05/2019 14:54

Of course it would happen, how do you think I plan to survive?

DianaPrincessOfThemyscira · 08/05/2019 14:55

PS Black Summer on Netflix now is a great zombie horror show!

InspectorClouseauMNdivision · 08/05/2019 14:55

Just wanted to say exactly the same. Also have a look at what is surrounding some football matches and other big events 🤷‍♀️

Nifflerbowtruckle · 08/05/2019 14:56

Law and order would break down within days particularly if they tried to keep an outbreak hush hush which would then put more people at risk. No police officer is going to patrol the streets trying to stop looting and stuff when they'd rather be home protecting their families from the walking dead. Also the main survivors will be the psychopaths and people willing to kill in cold blood to survive.

Mari50 · 08/05/2019 14:56

YABVU, the chaos would start very soon. Those who are typically law abiding would probably wait until they were desperate before things got crazy but there’s definitely a section of society that would exploit the situation almost immediately. My home town would be a mess in a week which is about how long the bacon/sausages and buckfast would last.

clairemcnam · 08/05/2019 15:02

But in the 2011 riots it was mainly looting of shops. Sure that would happen within a day. Idiots going and stealing big TVs, etc. But going round murdering people? That is quite different.

Walkingdeadfangirl · 08/05/2019 15:05

I would be the first to create a 'dangerous' gang and start breaking into shops. Bring it on!

Nifflerbowtruckle · 08/05/2019 15:07

You wouldn't survive long without be willing to kill. Might as well get used to it sooner rather than later.

clairemcnam · 08/05/2019 15:07

I would die then.

I think we have many spiteful arseholes in our society that can’t behave in a decent way even now so I don’t think it would take much for them to go out stealing and hurting people.

I think decent law abiding people things would have to be truly dire before they turned to crime

FudgeBrownie2019 · 08/05/2019 15:09

I think the majority of the population could break down into lawlessness inside a week. Easily.

Obviously there will be some who survive, but they'll likely be the people willing to break laws in order to survive. The good folk who trust implicitly in the goodness of society and humanity will be the first ones eaten.

Buster72 · 08/05/2019 15:11

The murder would follow the looting just as day follows night. If someone is standing in the way of water/food it won't take long before someone was killed.
Police and military will abandon their duties to protect their own loved ones.
Gangs will form to loot and vigilantes will form to protect premises....death will ensue.

For reference in 2011 deaths did occur.
In the 1994 riots in LA many were killed, Google Roof Koreans....

Ratatatouille · 08/05/2019 15:13

I reckon it would break down very quickly indeed. We'd end up with very little in the way of official protection and leadership, because all but the most senior (possibly) and most committed members of the police, armed forces, emergency services etc would be prioritising their own families' survival. Hospitals would be immediately overrun and close. People would desperately stockpile food, medical supplies and other necessities, some of them doing so for personal gain/bargaining power which would lead to extreme violence because, unlike any other situation in history (war, strikes etc) there would be little to no prospect of the stocks being replenished at any point. Once it's gone it's gone. There would also be a general feeling of "nothing matters any more" because there's no reputation, no job to keep, no wealth to strive for, perhaps some people would turn their back on religion etc so it would purely be about survival of you and your loved ones. People would take risks and do things they would never dream of in normal life to ensure their families' survival. People would no longer feel the need to conform in any way or feel constrained by social norms or laws.

TheQueef · 08/05/2019 15:19

Too many crackpots these days.
I would give it two days maximum before chaos.

Walkingdeadfangirl · 08/05/2019 15:24

Maybe one day a year we could suspend the rule of law and allow people to let off steam. We could call it 'Purge Day'. That way everyone will be better prepared for the zombie apocalypse and it wont come as such a shock.

recrudescence · 08/05/2019 15:40

I think those zombie films are pretty accurate about human nature. We’re basically horrible.
