Has anyone seen the picture of the Queen meeting little Archie? Beautiful picture but made extra special because Doria was in it.

The link and comment is in the thread.

Ok, I genuinely don't get that. Why is it extra special because the child's grandmother is in the picture? Not being snarky, not being mean, but I really can't understand this comment. Can you explain it?

escapade1234 · 09/05/2019 11:07

I think Harry though has always wanted to be further down get all the advantages being Royal has without the disadvantages - like his cousins

What are the disadvantages? Do you mean having to doing royal duties rather than be allowed a normal job? Genuinely wondering because I’ve seen this posted a lot. What do you think Archie will be able to do that Prince Louis won’t?

MissEliza · 09/05/2019 11:22

@BlackCatSleeping because traditionally royal in laws have been shoved to the side. That picture showed two families coming together. Everyone's eyes were on the baby who has united people from very different backgrounds. Also MM probably insisted on her mum being there because she wants her to be fully included and I think good on her. I also think Doria looks like a serene and classy lady who will be a lovely granny.
On a personal level, it reminded me of my MIL trying to shove my mum out the way when I had my first dc. My dh, who usually defers to her, sorted her out.

Quartz2208 · 09/05/2019 11:25

Have a normal job, presumably move to America if he wants to and not have to live up to the expectations that being a Prince has and less media intrusion (but I dont think this one will happen)

Stop projecting. They're not your relatives.

And let the baby be a baby, at least four a while. He's not an emblem of anything.

RubberTreePlant · 09/05/2019 11:29

FOR a while^

StealthPolarBear · 09/05/2019 11:31

That huge smile on the queen's face..

StealthPolarBear · 09/05/2019 11:33

Harry looks like he's itching to ask his gran if she's washed her hands before she reaches out to stroke his face

MissEliza · 09/05/2019 11:34

@RubberTreePlant How on earth is that projecting? Why do people on MN have to be so bloody goady and aggressive over anything? It's a lovely picture of people celebrating a new baby. WTF is there to argue about?

RubberTreePlant · 09/05/2019 11:36

You literally said "it reminded me of my MIL trying to shove my mum out the way when I had my first dc. My dh, who usually defers to her, sorted her out."

How is that NOT projecting? ConfusedConfusedConfused

MissEliza · 09/05/2019 11:36

@StealthPolarBear you're spot on about the Queen. I actually think grannies and great grannies actually get more excited with each new baby. My dh's gran has 13 great grandchildren and her face is bursting with pride when they're all together. Oh dear I'm projecting again Hmm

StealthPolarBear · 09/05/2019 11:38

But i am a bit nervous about whether she's washed her hands...
My grandma had alzheimers (which I realise the queen doesn't!) and had spent a couple of years out of it by the time I had DD. But when we took DD to meet her she knew exactly how to hold her and was so thrilled to meet her.

StealthPolarBear · 09/05/2019 11:40

I love the fact she's wearing a cardi too. Meeting a tiny baby should be informal. Plus it can probably go on a hot wash :o

BlackCatSleeping · 09/05/2019 11:48

@MissEliza

Thanks for explaining!

I suppose in my mind the Middletons were very hands on when Kate and Wills had their kids, so it seemed normal to me.

I suspect baby fever will calm down a little now he's been shown off and named.

StealthPolarBear · 09/05/2019 12:08

Until he starts school :)

MissEliza · 09/05/2019 12:13

@BlackCatSleeping Yes the Middletons are very hands on. After all, they got to the Lindo Wing first in the black cab didn't they?! Whereas Fergie and Di didn't seem to have close relationships with their mums and neither seemed to be around when they had their dcs. I think having your mum backing you up is essential when dealing with the RF.

Puzzledandpissedoff · 09/05/2019 12:36

Seems the dreaded Samantha's broken her silence on the matter, but she's apparently convinced Archie "will grow up to be an exceptional man"

So that's all right then ...

The way some posters pit women against each other is tragic - like they're caught in an eternal flashback of Battle Royale and only one woman can survive. Time to step away from the screens. There are 3.5 billion female people on the planet - we're not looking for one ultimate champion to shit on everyone else Hmm

BlackCatSleeping · 09/05/2019 12:59

Ok, a friend just explained about Harrison = Harry's son. Oh, no, that's so bad. 🤦🏼‍♀️

WithAllIntenseAndPurposes · 09/05/2019 15:47

Hmm well my very professional and normal cousin named her child similar (fathers name and son)
