I have dcs 16 and 19 and their year groups were full of Harrisons and Archies. If they were trying to go for different they've not done a very good job.
But it's nobody's business but the parents really. I noticed he doesn't have a title. Good for them. This baby will be second fiddle to the Cambridge children and it's the best thing for him to set the expectation with everyone that he is just a normal boy.

noodlenosefraggle · 08/05/2019 19:15

Exactly. Prince Andrew was the handsome Prince when he was younger. Now he's Airmiles Andy who had to beg ITV to televise his daughters wedding. Harry will be so low down the pecking order, and little Archie even lower. They've done well to just give him the expectation that he'll have to go his own way in life. The Queen looks delighted with him in that picture. Just like any other great grandma. She clearly couldn't care less that he has a chavvy name Grin

MissEliza · 08/05/2019 19:27

She clearly couldn't care less that he has a chavvy name. GrinTo be fair, her great grandkids from Anne's children all have very ordinary names. Kate and William are the only ones who went down the traditional route, for obvious reasons.

CarolDanvers · 08/05/2019 20:55

I think it’s a lovely name.

DSHathawayGivesMeFannyGallops · 08/05/2019 22:03

I think all the first names of the great-gdc together sound fine. Savannah, Isla, George, Mia, Charlotte, Louis, Lena, Archie. They just sound like a middle class school register, which is pretty on brand for the royals. The GGDC all have normal (as in like us, not title derived) surnames too- Tindall, Phillips or Mountbatten Windsor- bar George, Charlotte & Louis- who are the only ones with titles and a working surname taken from their title . Since H&M have gone to the trouble of turning down the Dumbarton title & announcing MW surname, are we taking it as fairly likely that he'll stay that way? Good on them if so. Any child of Eugenie will just be "Brooksbank" , too, I believe?

Quartz2208 · 08/05/2019 22:24

I suspect Eugenie children will have to be - Prince Andrew must be fuming as you cannot now have any of his grandchildren have titles given what the rest have done.

Its right though that only George Charlotte and Louis should be titled and no one else

I think Harry though has always wanted to be further down get all the advantages being Royal has without the disadvantages - like his cousins

MissEliza · 08/05/2019 22:30

They sound like a middle class school register So true!!

DSHathawayGivesMeFannyGallops · 08/05/2019 22:36

I agree Quartz. If you traced great grandchildren & beyond of Queen Victoria, a % will have no titles at all, I bet. Especially those born to her DC who married within the UK, not foreign royalty. Unless they're the eldest in line to a title or the dc of a reigning monarch now, loads of them are just fairly posh randoms.

TurquoiseDress · 08/05/2019 22:40

I do love the name Archie- so long as the new parents are happy with it that's all that matters

sound like a middle class school register very true indeed!

SamanthaBrique · 08/05/2019 22:46

@Quartz2208 Eugenie's child wouldn't have a title anyway as her husband doesn't have one.

TurquoiseDress · 08/05/2019 23:09

What is this tyranny of heels?

I really don't know Confused

Earlier on I wrote..."Fair play to Meghan getting a dress on with heels...I'm sure she would've preferred to stay in comfy clothes, but obviously with the world watching..."

My intention with this comment was that, 2 days postpartum, Meghan would surely have preferred to be in her pyjamas/something ultra comfortable etc rather than get dressed up...based on how I personally felt 2 days pp.

But she obviously wasn't going to turn up in a velour tracksuit/dressing gown with the photo call due to be beamed around the world.

I thought she looked glowing, relaxed and very content, although slightly overwhelmed, but that's normal when you're out and about with your newborn

Mortgages · 08/05/2019 23:35

I love MM but people need to remember she would have had access to endless advisors and helpers to guide her on how to maintain her weight in her pregnancy- someone mentioned how she has had no water retention and there are ways to reduce that which she might have used plus she naturally has small ankles and so has her mother.

Looking at todays pics and her wedding pics she has definitely put on weight and got wider which I guess no specialist can help you avoid!

mabelsgarden · 08/05/2019 23:40

Is this a serious comment?!

She had a baby 2 days ago. Hmm Let's see a picture of you 2 days after YOU gave birth.

Archie is a lovely name, and congratulations to Meghan and Harry.

*judgy cunts

Sagradafamiliar · 09/05/2019 00:07

Of course she's put on fucking weight, that's the way it goes. It's nature, biology. Expected. She might not have wanted 'specialist help' but a normal, healthy pregnancy.

GunpowderGelatine · 09/05/2019 00:11

What kind of specialist help is available that makes a woman ping back into a size 6 dress minutes after giving birth Confused

Mortgages · 09/05/2019 00:15

Gosh some mumsnet people are really a bunch of nutters!

I was merely saying that in retaliation to the conspiracy theories stating that she was wearing a prosthetic bump and therefore not pregnant! She has clearly put on weight so these pictures dispell the myths... Not to pick faults at a woman pp! I can assure you as a medic I am fully aware that women put on weight during pregnancy!

Secondly someone mentioned that she managed to not have any water retention which is true looking at her pregnancy pictures and I was again saying that she may have had help with that but is naturally slim.

Honestly get a grip and a life! I as a woman of black origin love MM and everything she represents.

Mortgages · 09/05/2019 00:21

Gunpowder please re-read my comments if you can- it was all tongue in cheek to dispel the myths that she was not pregnant. Clearly as anyone would expect her body has changed during her pregnancy and yet people were stating she was wearing a prosthetic bump.

GunpowderGelatine · 09/05/2019 00:27

My comment wasn't necessarily at you Mortgages I understood what you meant, but there's been some nasty comments since the start of this thread about her weight and it's ridiculous

Sagradafamiliar · 09/05/2019 00:31

Mortgages i was all geared up to apologise but I scrolled back to re-read and it doesn't come across the way you're now claiming at all. Unless I really needed to scroll right back to somewhere near the start of the thread.
Anyway that's enough todaying for today.

UnPocoLoco2 · 09/05/2019 01:12

'It's only a wee babby . Food goes in one end and they leak from both ends afterwards. Nothing new here.

JamieFrasersArse · 09/05/2019 06:55

@AmeriAnn you aren’t happy because Harry has married a foreigner? WTF do you think Prince Philip and the consorts prior to him (barring the Queen mum) were? The royal family has always married foreigners. Harry’s just reviving a family tradition 😂

Sweetdreamer93 · 09/05/2019 07:55

We have referred to him as Dave before we knew his name.
He is staying Dave. Grin

DSHathawayGivesMeFannyGallops · 09/05/2019 09:09

@JamieFrasersArse- if you also look at the history of british royal daughters, a lot of them traditionally married into foreign royalty- Victoria's Dd Princess Victoria married the German emperor, Edward VIIs dd Maud became a queen of Norway. It happens both ways.
