Like this one. DD is 11 and thinks IABU.

Sorry, meant to say I have vetoed this purchase because she is too young.

Mine doesn't have anything to hold it up so haven't got there yet. Grin
But I would say it's more of an older teenage top.

NotSuchASmugMarriedNow1 · 05/05/2019 15:30

Wouldn't bother me, it's just a cool summer top.

Do you think shoulders are racy and need to be covered up?

teenagetantrums · 05/05/2019 15:31

I don't know. I think as long as it doesn't fall down she should be allowed to wear it if she wants. What difference would it make if it had strapes on?

Whoops75 · 05/05/2019 15:34

Any age.

What’s the problem with it?

jaseyraex · 05/05/2019 15:35

What difference do straps make? Its a top. If it stays up, let her wear it.

Auntpetunia2015 · 05/05/2019 15:36

Why have you vetoed it. She’s 11? If it will stay up what’s the problem??

itswinetime · 05/05/2019 15:36

I'm not sure what is wrong with the top. Everything is covered surely it's a practical question after that. If it fits and stays up that's all good if she needs support does she have a bra that would do it!

If it had spaghetti straps would it be ok?

Skiptheskip · 05/05/2019 15:36

That particular top is from the women’s clothes section, but they have similar in the girls section from size/age 9.

Personally I think the style looks bloody ridiculous on the young girl models, but I’d let DD wear one at age 11 if the weather was warm enough and she wanted to.

LIZS · 05/05/2019 15:36

Too young. Do you not need some boobs to hold it up?

BettysLeftTentacle · 05/05/2019 15:36

YABU. It’s just a top. What are you worried about exactly and why are you sexualising an 11 year old?

LizB62A · 05/05/2019 15:36

imho it's more suitable when they're younger - once they get boobs, they need more support

TruffleShuffles · 05/05/2019 15:36

Are shoulders suggestive?! First I knew about it.

skippy67 · 05/05/2019 15:37

I would've let mine wear it at 11. It's just a top.

MrsTerryPratchett · 05/05/2019 15:37

I see little girls in tops like that. Especially the tops of dresses.

adaline · 05/05/2019 15:37

It's just a top Confused

What's the problem with it?

Matildatoldsuchdreadfullies · 05/05/2019 15:38

I'm with you all the way, OP. Running crop tops were also out for my dds - I couldn't see any reason why a 12 year old would wear a crop top to run around a freezing field in the sleet.

FWIW, my dds are now 18 and 15 and don't have any restrictions. But the 15 year old would give Mary Whitehouse a run for her money and tuts when the 18 year old wears anything vaguely revealing. Saves me and DH saying 'you're not going out wearing that!' Grin

Skiptheskip · 05/05/2019 15:38

See... looks bloody ridiculous.

I know IANBU. At what age would you allow your DD to wear a strapless top?
barbiegrl · 05/05/2019 15:41

My daughter went through a phase wearing them about 7 years old-I had to see elastic into the top to keep them up. Now she is 13 it's all oversized T-shirt's lol

UnexpectedItemInShaggingArea · 05/05/2019 15:45

As per the other photo, I think they look ridiculous on a young girl. I have no idea if it would actually stay up or not, but if it's £3 from New Look I imagine it would lose all shape after the first wash anyway...

OP posts:
ladycarlotta · 05/05/2019 15:48

I had a New Look boob tube when I was 12. I must say what I find most concerning is that I'm of an age for trends to have come back round again. O tempora, O mores.

I think it's fine, OP. Tell her she can buy it with her own money or something.

Spinnaret · 05/05/2019 15:53

I actually think the adult one is less awful because it is longer, but this is my dislike of belly tops.

Do you let her wear strappy vests? And if so, what makes them ok and not this style? Straps don't exactly cover much.

TruffleShuffles · 05/05/2019 15:55

I’m sure a lot of things young girls wear look ridiculous to parents but that doesn’t make them inappropriate. Do you feel this is inappropriate or ridiculous OP?

strawberrisc · 05/05/2019 15:56

My Mum wore mini skirts and white leather boots in the 60’s. She looks like a model in her photos but didn’t have a leg to stand on when it came to me wearing crop tops!

BettysLeftTentacle · 05/05/2019 15:57

What if she doesn’t think it looks rediculous though? What if she likes the way it looks? Your daughter is a completely separate human being to you OP and is allowed to like different things, even things that you may not like. I don’t understand what difference it makes to you.
