Frasier Was Better Than Friends

Niles with baby the bird stuck on his head. Niles setting fire to Frasier's apartment. Niles scoring from the halfway line. Kelsey Grammer's wonderful overacting. The lovely autumnal colours. The clever dialogue. The list goes on

Niles and Daphne were better than Ross and Rachel.

Aibu? No I'm not 😀

The more you watch Frasier (Blush), the more brilliant bits of acting you see Smile The first time Niles meets Daphne, for example Grin

Our two Siamese brothers are called Frasier and Niles. They have a soft toy (also Siamese) that came with them that we've called Daphne and there is a big black and white cat that they play with in the garden (must be a similar age as they play rather than have big fights) that we've nicknamed Cam Winston Grin

The boys are well named: one is bigger and more rumbustious, the other is smaller, cuter and slightly more needy.

Remember the line in Frasier where Niles is having one of his rants and Daphne, I think, is pouring drinks and says 'Wine?' and he quickly replies 'well, wouldn't you?'

MsMightyTitanAndHerTroubadours · 04/05/2019 09:57

Boring nerd alert.....Lisa Kudrow was originally cast to be Roz, and that episode with Niles, slapstick, ironing his trousers, setting fire to Frasier's sofa was thrown together as Kelsey Grammar had been suddenly carted off to some BettyFord type clinic for his addiction issues

But Frasier over Friends.

I am also outing my best idea for a Pointless Question which is "Well Known Characters Who Are Never Seen" Maris, Er Indoors, Norm's Wife....brain not working for the rest!

Frasier over Friends every time OP 🙌🏼

Mrs Wolowitz in Big Bang Theory

i think one of my favourite lines is "I see you are still waiting on your spine donor" Frasier to Niles :o

ineedtostopbeingsolazy · 04/05/2019 10:01

I loved Frasier it's was way better than Friends!

FlossieTeacakesFurCoat18 · 04/05/2019 10:02

I love both but Frasier has much more sophisticated humour. I actually think it was pretty amazing that a mainstream comedy delves so far into psychiatry - Frasier having to "do the work" of examining all his past relationships and his mother issues, the fact Frasier and Niles basically never got over being bullied at school and spend huge amounts of effort trying to prove they're superior to everyone because of that, and their sibling rivalry / need for approval from their father.

Ooh, I’ve got one, Mrs Mainwaring in Dad’s Army.

phlebasconsidered · 04/05/2019 10:29

The one where they get stuck in the ice fishing cabin. Perfect.
And i'd have watched a Ros spin off.

Norma in Suits

I saw an episode being recorded in LA once. Some bits had to be recorded several times and to cheer up the audience, DHP did a beautiful bit of physical comedy between takes.

US comedy teams often have someone called the punch-up guy (can be either gender). They spend most of the week golfing or doing whatever and come in (all fresh) the day before recording and punch up jokes to the next level. The 'wine?' 'well, wouldn't you?' has a touch of that in it.

NameChangeNugget · 04/05/2019 10:33

I totally agree with you OP. Friends was very overrated and Frasier was brilliant.

Frasier v Curb Your Enthusiasm however, would be a different debate.

Yamayo · 04/05/2019 10:33

What was so lovely about Frasier was that underneath all the neuroses and drama they cared about each other so much. The Crane boys were such a tight unit.

I always got the sense that the Friends group were passive aggressive and didn't actually like each other too much.

RiversDisguise · 04/05/2019 10:34

Hate Friends, like Frasier.

Yamayo · 04/05/2019 10:35

The show characters, not the cast.

NoTheresa · 04/05/2019 10:41

No contest. Frasier is fantastic. Smile

Whatthefoxgoingon · 04/05/2019 10:41

Frasier is intellectually superior to friends in every way. Friends was 20-30 somethings acting like stupid teenagers.

treenu · 04/05/2019 10:42

I am in total agreement. Frasier is far superior, so clever and yet silly too.

@lucillebluth I always loved Arrested Development and just spotted your username. I think that series 1-2 were very, very good/genius but cannot gel with the New Netflix series. Are they worth investing in?

Ps the big nosed in-laws crack me up every time - the Japan line made me snort with just reading it!

NoTheresa · 04/05/2019 10:42

Curb is knockout.

BestIsWest · 04/05/2019 10:50

I identify strongly with Roz.

We’ve been watching Cheers reruns recently. Lovely.

BestIsWest · 04/05/2019 10:53

There’s talk of making another series isn’t there? How that would work without Marty Crane though.

DecumusScotti · 04/05/2019 11:01

DHP just seems so lovely. He did the voice for a character in Hellboy but refused to be credited for it because he felt the physical actor deserved the credit more. 😍

Frasier > Friends, every time.

And it’s interesting seeing how far British accents in US shows have come. Buffy the Vampire Slayer was a turning point there, I think.

YemenRoadYemen · 04/05/2019 11:02

Everybody Loves Raymond is down there with the likes of Full House. It doesn't compete with the likes of Frasier, Seinfeld, Curb, etc.

Yamayo · 04/05/2019 11:04

Am I the only one who thinks Seinfeld has aged badly?
I find the humour too one-dimensional and all the characters are unlikeable.
