Frasier Was Better Than Friends

LucilleBluth · 03/05/2019 23:53

Niles with baby the bird stuck on his head. Niles setting fire to Frasier's apartment. Niles scoring from the halfway line. Kelsey Grammer's wonderful overacting. The lovely autumnal colours. The clever dialogue. The list goes on

Niles and Daphne were better than Ross and Rachel.

Aibu? No I'm not 😀

@Yamayo you're not supposed to like the characters!

Disfordarkchocolate · 04/05/2019 11:07

I hate Everyone loves Raymond, all of the main adult characters are awful people, I don't want that in a comedy.

YemenRoadYemen · 04/05/2019 11:08

Seinfeld is dated, but it's still very funny and the 'show about nothing' remains a very clever concept.

And @jamoncrumpets is exactly right!

Crushedvelvetcouch · 04/05/2019 11:10

Well yes of course, because Friends was shit.
I thought so in the nineties too......

6079SmithW · 04/05/2019 11:14

YADNBU. Frasier is one of the best sitcoms ever. Everything from intelligent dialogue to French farce executed wonderfully. The ski lodge episode with Frasier, Niles, Daphne, Annie and Guy is still fantastic!

OhDearGodLookAtThisMess · 04/05/2019 11:14

Frasier to Niles: Have you ever had an unexpressed thought?
Niles: I'm having one right now.
Grin

OhDearGodLookAtThisMess · 04/05/2019 11:16

And agree, no contest between the two. Frasier wins hands down.
But I can no longer tolerate Friends since the kids began watching it and I can hear it from another room. All I can hear is dreadful canned laughter and Monica and Phoebe screeching in ever-higher-pitched voices.

MissSingerbrains · 04/05/2019 11:20

Frasier is absolutely funnier, as well as better written and acted. I appreciate it more now though than I did in my 20s.

Kelsey Grammer coming out as a Trump and Brexit supporter recently was a shock as in my head he was a lot more like Frasier Sad

Raymond is really not funny at all fwiw.

Nearlyadad · 04/05/2019 11:23

(Frasier is trying to produce a 3 second radio jingle with what looks like the Seattle philharmonic orchestra)
Niles: “Frasier, have you ever heard the phrase ‘less is more?’”
Frasier: “Yes, but if less is more then think how much more more would be!”

Loladisco · 04/05/2019 11:24

Frasier is just so good. Favourite quote: Roger, at Cornell University they have an incredible piece of scientific equipment known as the tunneling electron microscope. Now, this microscope is so powerful that by firing electrons you can actually see images of the atom, the infinitesimally minute building blocks of our universe. Roger, if I were using that microscope right now, I still wouldn't be able to locate my interest in your problem. Thank you for your call.

Also love the episode where they record his theme tune, and do the live radio play

Yamayo · 04/05/2019 11:24

@jamoncrumpet I know you are not mean to, but to me that's what makes the concept of the show dated.
I loved it as a teenager, but looking back it doesn't work anymore.

Whereas to me Frasier still has the perfect blend of great characters/clever humour.

nordstrom · 04/05/2019 11:27

I do love Friends, but have to agree - Frasier is far superior. I adore it. I'm currently inducting DH to it so re-watching from the beginning.

Frasier is my ultimate comfort blanket (alongside Poirot)

Birdshitbridgegotme · 04/05/2019 11:28

I still watch frasier now. I love friends but love frasier even more so u ain't bu....I always remember the in listening song! Also when niles is trying to get daphnes dad to stay and he says something along the lines of "oh I cant make you pay for a first class plane ticket and a 5star hotel while niles basically agrees to make daphne hapoy

nordstrom · 04/05/2019 11:29

And thanks to the poster above, I now have 'flesh is burning' in my head for the rest of the day! 🙈

YemenRoadYemen · 04/05/2019 11:30

Kelsey Grammer coming out as a Trump and Brexit supporter recently was a shock

ShockShock

And in one fell swoop, Frasier is ruined. 😭

SophoclesTheFox · 04/05/2019 11:30

Frasier FTW!

Excellent physical comedy, zingy one-liners, total commitment to the absurd from all the cast. Loved it then, love it now!

RhubarbIsEvil · 04/05/2019 11:31

I want Frasier’s flat.

BigRedDoor · 04/05/2019 11:39

MissSingerbrains I understand Kelsey Grammer is also very anti-abortion. It is weirdly difficult to separate his views from the fictional character Frasier and I was Sad when I read about his politics.

I’d still watch any episode of Frasier any day though. I love the snobbery, and the social climbing. They never can quite get into the upper echelons of old money Seattle and unwittingly expose themselves trying every time.

Also love the episode where Niles has a break down, strips in the coffee shop and is wrapped up in aprons by Frasier. The worst bit was the Daphne gets fat storyline to account for Jane Leeves’ pregnacy.

MatchsticksForMyEyesReturns · 04/05/2019 11:42

"Something and something and Buttons and Bows" at the PBS telethon. I love the school holidays as I get to watch.

HepzibahGreen · 04/05/2019 11:57

KelseyGrammar has long been known for being very right wing, drug problems and marrying a succession of much younger "dancers."
He's still an amazing talent.
His early life is really tragic- his sister was raped and murdered at 18 among other things. I think he just got really screwed up

Yamayo · 04/05/2019 12:00

Watching it now... Grin

Yamayo · 04/05/2019 12:02

'Remember when you used to think the 1812 Ouverture was a great piece of classical music?

(Sigh) Was I ever that young?'

Grin
OhDearGodLookAtThisMess · 04/05/2019 12:03

It's quite well-documented that they are discussing storylines for a new series. No Martin, obviously Sad , but Kelsey Grammer was interviewed as saying he liked the idea being mooted that Frederick has turned out like him.

twocats335 · 04/05/2019 12:05

Totally agree! I liked Friends but it was a bit stupid really compared to Fraisier. I picked up the dvd box set recently from the charity shop for a quid.

EnthusiasmIsDisturbed · 04/05/2019 12:08

Yanbu

Friends is the most overrated sitcom ever so dull boring and predictable
