Frasier Was Better Than Friends

Niles with baby the bird stuck on his head. Niles setting fire to Frasier's apartment. Niles scoring from the halfway line. Kelsey Grammer's wonderful overacting. The lovely autumnal colours. The clever dialogue. The list goes on

Niles and Daphne were better than Ross and Rachel.

Aibu? No I'm not 😀

Frasier Was Better Than Friends

Correct

The master of the cork,
He knows which wine
Goes with fish or pork..."

  • Niles, I would shave my head for you.
  • A gesture which becomes less significant with each passing year.

Yanbu OP. Frasier shits all over friends. Daphne's family were rubbish though.

Howyoualldoworkme · 04/05/2019 00:49

The never present Maris. The brilliant snobbery. Lilith. Frasier is ageless.
One of my favourite quotes "Remember what Mother said, a handshake is as good as a hug"

Just remembered today that Emma Thompson played Frasier's first wife Nanny Gee in an episode of Cheers.
Oddly enough, I couldn't warm to Cheers Confused

Frasier Was Better Than Friends

Yes.

'Flesh is burning nananananana'

Nosunnofun · 04/05/2019 00:52

Frasier was, and still is, amazing tv.

Without a doubt. YANBU! Seinfeld was better, too.

Celticrose · 04/05/2019 01:11

Loved watching Frasier. Was introduced to it by my sister at the beginning when visiting her across the pond. Also was my introduction to G&T and pistachio nuts. Wonderful combination. I liked Friends but it could not hold a candle to Frasier

Ah, it’s almost like asking me to choose between my children.

“Friends” and “Frasier” were both part of the NBC “Must-See TV” line-up on Thursday nights in the mid-‘90s. I love them both. They were two very different shows and I find it difficult to compare them, honestly, like apples to oranges.

Friends: “The One Where Everyone’s Late” and “The One When Phoebe and Ross Find Out.” My favorite characters had to be sarcastic Chandler and OCD Monica. I thought Christina Applegate as Rachel’s bitchy sister Amy was the best guest star.

Frasier: The episode where Frasier invites his new station manager over for dinner, hoping to snag a man for Daphne, not realizing the man is gay. Meanwhile, the station manager thinks he’s on a date with Frasier; and “The Innkeepers” episode, when Frasier and Niles buy a restaurant and everything goes wrong.

Niles was my favorite character.

I always thought these episodes are all so perfectly written; the comedic timing is perfect; I laugh until I cry. Two very different and venerable TV shows.

OP, I agree that Niles and Daphne are better than Ross and Rachel. Never got into the whole Ross and Rachel storyline.

Frasier is ragingly misogynistic but it's almost deliberate. We're supposed to be laughing AT Frasier and Niles for their snobbery and poor attitudes. While Friends, I don't think that's so much the case.

I love them both.

KC225 · 04/05/2019 01:15

At the time Friends seemed so modern and young. But god, it hasn't aged well at all. Fraiser, is so clever and so much more sophisticated and has barely aged a day. 100% agree OP.

goldenchicken · 04/05/2019 01:16

Nope not better. Friends JUST has the edge (for me anyway...)

Frasier was still brilliant, but what put me off it a bit was Daphne's voice. (Jane Leeves...) Got right on my bloody nerves it did.

LucilleBluth · 04/05/2019 08:48

Daphne's family were awful and English accents are all wrong. Considering two of the main cast members were English I'm not really sure how they got it so wrong.

But Frasier is steak and sherry...Friends is a hamburger and a milkshake.

Did anyone see that picture of KG carrying a script that said Frasier on the front.

Frasier was almost perfect. Daphne's family were awful but I think the bad accents were part of the joke - they all had overegged regional accents from entirely different places.

Helmetbymidnight · 04/05/2019 08:54

they're different - and both exceptionally good, but yeah, i massively prefer Frasier.

BabloHoney · 04/05/2019 08:55

Frasier was so much better then Friends!!

“Niles, I know what you’re thinking..”
“Then I’m sorry you had to hear that”

I can still watch them over and over today.

SinjunRivers · 04/05/2019 08:55

"Put your brother on. PUT YOUR BROTHER ON!!!!"

Niles ironing is gold!

LaurieMarlow · 04/05/2019 08:55

This. I love them both in different ways.

And while Frasier was cleverer, Friends had more impact on mass culture.

thethoughtfox · 04/05/2019 08:55

Fraisier all day

sar302 · 04/05/2019 08:57

I've watched it every morning for years and years. Never gets old!

Disfordarkchocolate · 04/05/2019 08:57

I love watching Frasier, except the episodes with Daphne's family. Every episode with them in it was awful, what was Antony LaPaglia thinking off doing such dross!!!

SerenDippitty · 04/05/2019 08:59

Secondly, much as I love Niles, he was a bastard to Mel and would rightly be given dogs abuse on here.

Yes but Mel was really horrible to Daphne.

mononokeswolf · 04/05/2019 09:00

YANBU

jamoncrumpets · 04/05/2019 09:00

Seinfeld was better than both
