Frasier Was Better Than Friends

Niles with baby the bird stuck on his head. Niles setting fire to Frasier's apartment. Niles scoring from the halfway line. Kelsey Grammer's wonderful overacting. The lovely autumnal colours. The clever dialogue. The list goes on

Niles and Daphne were better than Ross and Rachel.

I thought Mel was pretty awful to Niles. Not that this excuses Niles behaviour to Mel.

Frasier: The episode where Frasier invites his new station manager over for dinner, hoping to snag a man for Daphne, not realizing the man is gay. Meanwhile, the station manager thinks he’s on a date with Frasier;

An impression heightened when he remarks on the great view from Frasier’s living room and Frasier says “it’s even better from the bedroom”.

Love both for different reasons. I find frasier knowingly achingly ‘clever’ at times which can get in the way of my own enjoyment. Also agree it is more clearly male-centred than friends. Don’t actually ‘like’ a single character in frasier. ‘Find of’ pretty much everyone on friends other than Ross but he provided many of the lol moments.
Curb - beats both for me.
Seinfeld - beats both for me.

Frasier was genius. So many favourite moments from that show. Absolutely loved Niles, so well cast.

Frasier is the best. Never liked Friends much at the time, and it's not aged well.

In a different note I always thought Scrubs was a great sitcom by the way, it's a shame it is do underrated.

I’ve recently rewatched both and Frasier has definitely stood the rest of time better. Still made me laugh out loud a few times, whereas the Friends characters all seem quite annoying (apart from Phoebe!).
Agree with the pp who said it went down hill after Niles and Daphne got together and Daphne’s family were awful though. But all in all I agree with the OP - Frasier is far superior :)

EdWinchester, I completely agree! The getting ready for the date scene was amazing! Beautifully choreographed chaos!

However, I think my all time favourite is Niles thinking about becoming a father and carrying the sack of flour around. Brilliant!

Frasier every time! My 18 year old and I have waded through the box set of friends recently and I’m quite shocked by some of it (I wasn’t at the time!). The constant references to porn, the casual sexism, homophobia etc. Even the creator of Friends has come out and said she feels the gay and trans remarks are very off now.

Frasier is just so much more sophisticated comedy which has definitely stayed fresher. I could watch it every day!

And like the PP all the Friends characters are annoying now especially Joey - just grow up!! Phoebe I disliked at the time but she’s definitely my favourite now as she puts the rest in their places.

I love Frasier and watch it in the morning too. Can't believe how many episodes they must have made. I love Frasier far more than Friends but also now, years later, I'm guessing I'm more of target audience than I was then! I also like Everybody Loves Raymond.

readwritedraw agree about phoebe. She annoyed me when it was first on. Recently rewatching of a season - I Like her a lot !

I quite liked Friends at the time, although I found Phoebe's character ridiculously annoying. And Ross only slightly less annoying.

But Frasier is about 100 times funnier. So so clever.

I never got the fuss about Friends. It's tedious, dull and the characters bored me senseless. Frasier however was brilliant! I have the box set and rewatch it all at least once a year. Niles under the piano is my favorite along with the episode where Martin and Daphne move in with Niles and Martin thinks that Niles is trying to injure him. Brilliant show!
