Frasier Was Better Than Friends

Niles with baby the bird stuck on his head. Niles setting fire to Frasier's apartment. Niles scoring from the halfway line. Kelsey Grammer's wonderful overacting. The lovely autumnal colours. The clever dialogue. The list goes on

Niles and Daphne were better than Ross and Rachel.

Aibu? No I'm not 😀

This is self evident.

Nosunnofun · 06/05/2019 12:17

Roz was my favorite character, hard to believe she was originally to be played by Lisa Kudrow.

MyBlueMoonbeam · 06/05/2019 14:12

Massive Frasier fan from day 1 but as I posted earlier Daphne's family really spoilt it for me in the last couple of series.

Wendie Malick as Martin's girlfriend saved the show towards the end however - loved their story 🥰

Coolegary1 · 06/05/2019 17:02

So glad it's not just me who thinks this. I loved both and get quite nostalgic for my twenties when watching either.
Favorite lines has to be
Frasier shouting at Niles during their usual row,
'niles Copernicus called, he says you're not the centre of the universe'.
The sword fight between Niles and the fencer having an affair with Maris.....the mix up in the translations was hilarious.
My favorite funny scene, last episode when Marty sat in the fancy leather seat and footstool and said 'hey this isn't so bad'.
Best episode for me was them at the spa trying to get into the VIP sections.

I have loads more

Coolegary1 · 06/05/2019 17:04

Oh another one
Frasier in his tight squash shorts walking into a gay bar looking for a 'man' as he said to the doorman.

StillCoughingandLaughing · 06/05/2019 19:24

‘Friends’ also has a lot of plot holes that never get addressed. ‘Frasier’ obviously has a major one in that, in ‘Cheers’, Frasier said his dad was dead - but they address it early on.

By contrast, in ‘Friends’ we have an opening episode where a) Rachel is close enough to Monica to run to her for help, but didn’t invite her to the wedding, b) Ross has apparently been married to Carol for eight years, but is later shown as not having even met her eight years previously and c) Rachel has never met Chandler before, but flashbacks later show they met several times as teenagers. That’s before we even get to Phoebe having met Monica in college, yet revealing years later that she never even met to high school. And how come she was close enough to her grandmother to live with her as an adult, but didn’t move in with her as a homeless teen?

DiseasesOfTheSheep · 06/05/2019 19:57

Could the McAllister sisters stand back to back? I'm short on bullets!

Niles, who is incredible during the whole insane episode...

OhDearGodLookAtThisMess · 06/05/2019 20:54

Yeah, I think that has to be the best episode ever for me. Ham Radio, Murder at the Inn. Inspired.
Closely followed by "They're playing our song," (the radio jingle composition).

Bluestitch · 06/05/2019 20:59

Ham Radio- Frasier's 'Well that pretty much wrapped things up' after Niles went rogue and killed off all the characters makes me die!

SerenDippitty · 06/05/2019 21:10

I loved that one where they’ve somehow got into a contract to write a book about sibling rivalry. They hole up in a hotel room to try to get the first chapters done. Niles is trying to recover his earliest memory. It all ends with Frasier grabbing him round the neck and shouting “you stole my Mommy!”

MillStone · 06/05/2019 21:22

Fraser, yes but also Cheers! Fraser and Woody, amazing. Also... the ep of Fraser, when Woody visits Grin

Shopkinsdoll · 06/05/2019 21:26

I like friends but really enjoy everyone loves Raymond. Brilliant and very witty and funny

Paddington68 · 06/05/2019 21:29

The testcard is better than Friends.

MissCharleyP · 06/05/2019 22:07

StillCoughingandLaughing The dad thing was addressed quite smoothly but early on in an episode where Frasier & Niles have fallen out; Martin is trying to intervene and says “Now, I never had a brother”. Then we see his brother in the Greek wedding episode.

There was never any mention of Phoebe & Monica meeting in college - they were roommates as we see in flashbacks, but I don’t think it’s ever revealed how they met. The other stuff is annoying, there’s a whole thread about it on Digital Spy if you fancy a look.

StillCoughingandLaughing · 06/05/2019 22:26

There was never any mention of Phoebe & Monica meeting in college

It’s in the official companion book. (Yes, I was tragic enough to have that.)

ToEarlyForDecorations · 06/05/2019 22:38

Never watched Friends. I tried but it was like watching paint dry, i.e. a character walks into the kitchen, opens the fridge door and the whole audience laughs. Mmm kay. Anyone still got their laminated list ? Utter bollocks.

Frasier was really good and really funny.

Favourite scene:

Roz in the Mens Room shouting under the toilet stall door to Bulldog, 'if you don't come out I'm going to drag you out by your ankles.'

Niles walks past and says, 'ah Roz, playing hard to get I see.'

Classic.

Real dialogue, real jokes, real story lines.

Friends just seemed to be scene in a café, scene in a café on perpetual loop. There's a limit on how much Lisa Kudrow I can cope with as well. As well as the dark haired woman and the dumb men.

Like I say Frasier was funny.

If you found Friends funny, no doubt you were an easy mark for Sex and the City too.

Deadringer · 06/05/2019 22:55

I liked friends, especially in the early days, but it's not in the same league as Frasier. Hated sex and the city though.

Crunched · 06/05/2019 22:55

I saw Kelsey Grammer in Man of La Mancha on Saturday, and I felt quite tearful when he accepted his standing ovation in such a Frasier-type way. Made me feel very nostalgic for the show.

riverislands · 06/05/2019 22:56

I think Friends is for teenagers.

happyhillock · 06/05/2019 23:01

Frasier was miles better, have tried to watch friends just can't get into it.

EachandEveryone · 07/05/2019 10:46

Frasier everytime. I would love to see DHP in a musical they say he was fantastic in Hello, Dolly on broadway. KG is in a show in the west end now Im tempted as i beleive he is an all rounder as well. He just doesnt come accross as being that nice, does he? I ready an interview with Martin RIP who said it shouldve ended way before Niles and Daphne got married and he would never, ever have approved a remake. It seems they are trying to push for one anyway. Here is a picture of my Daphne, who’d have thought it would become a hipster name? Weve had two born at work recently.

Im sorry though, Curb wins in for me. I wish more people had watched it. Curb then Seinfeld and Frasier joint second.

lottiegarbanzo · 07/05/2019 12:16

I never really liked Frasier the character and didn't find him attractive at all (rather repulsive). Were we meant to do you think? I could sympathise with him to an extent but found his pomposity overwhelming - so more laughing at than with really.

Whereas I loved all the other characters and was very much laughing with them, especially Niles and Ros. Even though, in real life, Niles would be utterly infuriating (and not lower his dignity to speak to someone like me anyway!).

So I wasn't at all surprised to read about how detached KG was from the rest of the cast and wouldn't rush to see him in anything else. DHP or Ros I would though.

nordstrom · 07/05/2019 13:59

My ds would have been a Daphne had he been a girl.

AryaStarkWolf · 07/05/2019 14:01
