To sneak a McDonald's into the cinema

Would it be wrong to sneak a big mac and fries into the cinema? I usually just take a bag of sweets and bottle of water. I refuse to pay the cinema prices for food. The film I want to see tomorrow is 3 hours long, plus 30 minutes or so of adverts. It starts at 11.30am. Do you take your own food into the cinema?

Yabu it really smells
Nothing's worse than popcorn!

1forAll74 · 04/05/2019 02:40

If people really have to eat smelly food in a cinema, they should all have to sit in some designated area, mainly the back rows, away from the non eaters !!

I don't ever go to a cinema these days,,but just thought I would put my little comment on here.

My cinema days were in the oldie days, nobody ever thought of eating stuff in the cinema, they just bought an ice cream or some orange juice in the interval, brought round by a lady with a tray thing.!!

LightDrizzle · 04/05/2019 02:46

I’m depressed by the people not getting the obvious piss-take in the “quinoa” post, my guess was that it was a response to the Pret sandwich post.
Hooray for the OP having the grace to consider the smell. I have a serious Quarter Pounder Medium Meal habit but I know it honks, and I'd never inflict it on someone who has coughed up quite a bit to go to the cinema and is either stuck there, or leaves and misses the film they’ve paid for.

YemenRoadYemen · 04/05/2019 02:55

Nothing's worse than popcorn!

Er, yes it is. Processed beef, for one.

floribunda18 · 04/05/2019 03:04

Bring your own snacks, sure. Just not a McDs.

Pigsinduvets · 04/05/2019 03:20

We took sandwiches into endgame. We go for the least rustling/smelling snacks and open packets before movie starts. FYI there are no extra scenes after the credits like there usually is with Marvel movies.

Alicewond · 04/05/2019 03:25

I hate sitting near people who bring smelly foods into a crowded place

Monty27 · 04/05/2019 03:45

Do you have any social skills OP? Confused

springydaff · 04/05/2019 03:49

Way to go Monty Confused

Pigsinduvets · 04/05/2019 03:49

Yes OP has social skills @Monty27
That’s why she’s asked for advice and later said she wouldn’t take the McDonald’s food in. But if you had RTFT you would know that.

ThumbWitchesAbroad · 04/05/2019 04:02

Gross. They stink.

aurynne · 04/05/2019 04:12

This is why I just watch movies in the comfort of my own home. The munching, crunching, sticky fingers, stinky fast food smells and loud haw-hawing and people who just won't shut the fuck up, added to the ones who cannot stop checking their mobile phone for the entirety of the movie have ruined the experience for me. I wouldn't go even if I was paid to go, let alone having to spend money to "enjoy" the experience.

LellyMcKelly · 04/05/2019 04:26

When I’m the boss of the world nobody is thanking anything to eat into the cinema. All that rustling and chewing drives me round the bend. At Avengers Endgame someone sat ceding me and are one of those massive bags of fucking fancy salt and vinegar crisps. Just eat it before you go in or after you come out.

Bestfootforward1 · 04/05/2019 04:55

Pls note everyone around you will hate you because it will STINK. Very chavvy and antisocial

Palaver1 · 04/05/2019 05:01

Can’t you just take a cold sandwich Macy’s really smells

daisychain01 · 04/05/2019 05:11

YABU - Macky D is shite food and makes me feel sick thinking about it. Full of fat sugar and over processed.

Lettuce leaf and razor-thin sliver of gherkin is about all I'd be willing to stuff, cinema or no.

HTH

daisychain01 · 04/05/2019 05:14

This thread is a hoot for the sheer righteous indignation and daft suggestions

Bloody right, my body is a temple not a dustbin Grin Grin

Bring on the po-faced healthy eating brigade, lol.

Mummaofmytribe · 04/05/2019 05:18

I always sneak in cheaper snacks for the kids. But not hot food. The smell would prevent there being anything "sneaky" about it

Couie · 04/05/2019 05:21

When we went to see Endgame someone shouted at someone for making too much noise so good luck with a Maccies!!

Sparklingbrook · 04/05/2019 05:23

I agree wholeheartedly with aurynne. I just don't enjoy sitting in close proximity with anti social strangers. Up and down to the loo, checking their mobiles, chatting to their mates, and noisily stuffing their faces.

The cinema isn't cheap. Why put yourself through it?

mydogisthebest · 04/05/2019 08:58

Why exactly do people feel the need to eat while watching a film? Do you all have to sit and eat if you watch a film on dvd?

Also people moan about the price of going to the cinema but if you just went and watched a film and didn't buy a bucket of cola and a bucket of popcorn or whatever it would be cheaper.

Maybe if people didn't drink in cinemas they would not be in and out going to the toilet all the time and disturbing others

mydogisthebest · 04/05/2019 09:01

Sparklingbrook, Me and DH love going to the cinema because we love films and watching one on a tv is nowhere near the same.

The problem is the other people in the cinema. Rustling, slurping and, even more annoying, going in and out. The people that go out never seem to have an aisle seat so anyone in their row has to get up to let them out and then again to let them in.

I like to get totally engrossed in a film and hate that other people ruin that.

I don't understand why it's so difficult for so many people to sit for 2 or so hours without eating, drinking or going to the toilet. If they have a weak bladder then for god's sake sit on the end of a row

Sinead100 · 04/05/2019 09:14

This thread is HILARIOUS 🤣

OP - Take the damn McDonald's, especially if you're going at 11.30am! I went to the cinema with a friend to a 12pm showing of a very long film, on a Monday afternoon. We took McDonald's in with us because we figured that it would be a quiet showing.

Of the 15 or so people watching the film, every single person had brought their own hot food (mostly Mcdonalds!).

So - I'd use my common sense. At a less busy time, go for it! But expect Judgey McJudgersons at 8pm on a Friday night.

LipstickHandbagCoffee · 04/05/2019 09:23

Why exactly do people feel the need to eat while watching a film? Food for most people is an enjoyable, social act. The sharing of it ,the smells, the physiological and psychological feeling of satisfaction. cinema and food...It’s a normal and contextually appropriate act.Look at the food on sale and display. Eating at cinema is only an aberration on mn. What we eat Depends on timing of movie if we are going 1130am as by time we travelled, queued it’s better to eat in cinema. 1130 movie start we will have eaten breakfast 07-0730 so will not have our dinner yet. let’s say movie last 90min get out at 1300. So actually Eating at 1130 isn’t gluttony or a running buffet it’s actually quite reasonable. And no, a quiet sip of water or softly eaten banana isn’t what we want. Not even a Waitrose Quinta salad. Most times I’ll simply take a mix of food I’ve made & bought eg sandwiches, crisis, drinks buy the kids these kids boxes.

Meanwhile in real life lots of folk eat in cinema or are in proximity to food without Gagging, feeling faint, covering mouth,or wondering what the hell is going on

Do you all have to sit and eat if you watch a film on dvd? Yes definitely except the food choice is whatever is in the house and it’s noisier. Sit and eat is said in such an accusatory manner,it’s not sit and skin up

ittakes2 · 04/05/2019 09:27

I did once for children without thinking it through - luckily the cinema was empty but others are right - Macdonalds has a strong smell and I would never do it again out of respect for the other cinema goers.
Interestingly, I didn't realise you weren't allowed to bring in food since others did it all the time. I walked through with 4 kid's meals in their colourflul boxes plys 4 drinks in that drinks carry box and the staff never said a thing!
