This blog post starts with the simple line, because it’s victim blaming. To me, this is so clear and so beautifully written, from a woman who was worked with victims of sexual violence for ten years. So she knows what she’s talking about. I urge you to read this and think about it. To me, it will put women off reporting rape even more than they already do and is just taking things in the wrong direction.

@QueenOfTheTofuTree if evidence and testimony contradict the party of course I am not going to just take their word and question that they are telling the truth. You seem to assume no 'victim' could make it up as a lie

QueenOfTheTofuTree · 01/05/2019 14:45

if evidence and testimony contradict the party of course I am not going to just take their word and question that they are telling the truth.

Uh...okay? Hmm

You seem to assume no 'victim' could make it up as a lie

Again, where have I said this?

Moonchild1987 · 01/05/2019 14:51

@QueenOfTheTofuTree you did with your attitude that we should believe the victim no matter what. That you would not see in comsitancies as a indication it could be a lie if there is np evidenced to support them

QueenOfTheTofuTree · 01/05/2019 14:54

you did with your attitude that we should believe the victim no matter what.

Again, where?

Interesting how you use the word 'victim' as opposed to 'alleged victim'.

QueenOfTheTofuTree · 01/05/2019 14:56

It's also possible to believe and support an alleged victim whilst still believing that the accused has a right to a fair trial and has a right to be seen as innocent until proven guilty.

CuriousaboutSamphire · 01/05/2019 14:56

and then it went ----> thataway Smile

Moonchild1987 · 01/05/2019 14:58

@QueenOfTheTofuTree until all evidence has been seen in trial neither party should be believed

QueenOfTheTofuTree · 01/05/2019 15:01

until all evidence has been seen in trial neither party should be believed

And evidently no support either.

You're sounding nicer by the minute.

Moonchild1987 · 01/05/2019 15:06

@QueenOfTheTofuTree omg shock I should base my opinions and views on hard facts that can be proven. If me being fair, logical and just comes at the price of me not being 'nice' so be it

QueenOfTheTofuTree · 01/05/2019 15:12

So if your daughter came to you and told you she had been raped you would refuse to offer her emotional support until she could prove she defintley was raped. Fair enough.

Moonchild1987 · 01/05/2019 15:13

@QueenOfTheTofuTree nothing wrong with support either as long as it is given to both parties. It's innocent until proven guilty not guilty until proven innocent

CuriousaboutSamphire · 01/05/2019 15:14

Ooh! That is nasty

Definitely reflects badly in you, Queen, as it is transparently an attempt to shame and quash Moonchild from continuing! And is such a twist too!

QueenOfTheTofuTree · 01/05/2019 15:15

I am going to be honest here and say you don't strike me as being either fair or logical.

You have repeatedly twisted my words around and accused me of saying things which I have not said. You then refused to answer me when I asked where I'd claimed the things you are accusing me of.

That pretty much makes you the opposite of fair and logical.

Moonchild1987 · 01/05/2019 15:15

@QueenOfTheTofuTree of course I would if I believed her but will make it clear without evidence she should not expect the same from others that are there as a neutral party and that she will need to answer to the police

Moonchild1987 · 01/05/2019 15:17

@QueenOfTheTofuTree what if your son os facing prison due to the alligations of someone else and is innocent. Do you still believe the alleged victim right off the bat?

QueenOfTheTofuTree · 01/05/2019 15:17

nothing wrong with support either as long as it is given to both parties. It's innocent until proven guilty not guilty until proven innocent

And I'm sure that as you're such a fair person then you will agree innocent until proven guilty works both ways.

It is not on to label a woman as being a false accuser without a fair trial against her either.

BertrandRussell · 01/05/2019 15:19

If my son was accused I would of course believe him and support But I would know in my heart of hearts that he was probably guilty.

Moonchild1987 · 01/05/2019 15:19

@QueenOfTheTofuTree never said all are just some could be so until proven I can't believe either side

QueenOfTheTofuTree · 01/05/2019 15:19

of course I would if I believed her but will make it clear without evidence she should not expect the same from others that are there as a neutral party and that she will need to answer to the police

So you agree with me that it's okay to support loved ones?

Just out of curiousity, what if she didn't want to report it and just wanted her mum's emotional support?

QueenOfTheTofuTree · 01/05/2019 15:21

what if your son os facing prison due to the alligations of someone else and is innocent

I've never understood this argument tbh.

Do you still believe the alleged victim right off the bat?

No because I don't always automatically believe the alleged victim.

Moonchild1987 · 01/05/2019 15:22

@BertrandRussell so you would not really believe him then

QueenOfTheTofuTree · 01/05/2019 15:22

Ooh! That is nasty

Possibly.

However it is no more nasty than both you and her repeatedly twisting my words around and accusing me of saying things I never did.

Moonchild1987 · 01/05/2019 15:23

@QueenOfTheTofuTree then what is wrong with questioning inconstancies

Moonchild1987 · 01/05/2019 15:24

@QueenOfTheTofuTree how have either of us been nasty

IsYourGoogleBroken · 01/05/2019 15:24

Principle in our law is 'innocent until proven guilty', the burden is on those making the accusation to prove those accusations.

eg Victim - this man is harassing me by text

  • police - lets see your messages
  • victim - no, look at his phone.

Or alternatively victim states he/she is being harrassed, police approach the accused, who has already deleted messages OR has used a different phone. The messages will however be on the victims phone.
