Hello everyone, here's thread 2.

I'd be very grateful if someone could do a clicky link to the last one. Still can't figure it out.

Thanks!

StoneofDestiny

I don't agree that conformity = lack of intellect and non-conformity = presence of intellect.
I've known some very bright conformists (I'd like to count myself among them but there's no reason for anyone to believe that I'm intelligent, so poor example) and some non-c's who are thick as Kate's hair.

But definitely not as thick as pregnant MM's pregnant waistline. Which is, was and never shall be thick. Even at end of gestation.
Wasp-like springs to mind.
And not just about my bitchiness...Wink

Raps ruler on the blackboard

Keep an eye on your tone kids, we don't want an interesting thread deleted, not when I'm learning so much cool royal info.

It's all being squirrelled away, ready to trot out at dinner parties to make me look smarter than I am Grin

Also, wondering whether anyone has any stories on The Queen Mother? Or did we do that already?

Her character seemed lovely in The King's Speech, but of course Hollywoodland doesn't have form for being accurate.

She certainly seemed beloved by the people when she was alive?

I would LOVE to know what Phil said back to that. Grin I always thought Edward was the one with undeserved medals though? DF visibly froths if Edward appears in uniform and a chest full of medals!

Also on royal uniform, there are some fabulous photos of Grand Duchesses Olga and Tatiana in the uniforms of the regiments they were honorary patrons of.

I remember when I was younger, seeing pictures of the royals (mainly the men) wearing all their medals, and thinking they must have been very brave in wars to get all of them. How wrong I was.

My reference point was my grandfather who had 3-4 medals, and lost an eye and an arm in the 2nd world war, so I assumed the royals must have fought even more to get all theirs Confused

The Queen Mother left millions of pounds of debt on her death (a notorious spendthrift) and had an unhealthy relationship with alcohol.

DSHathawayGivesMeFannyGallops · 30/04/2019 10:33

There were a few QM stories on the zapped thread, including a brilliant one on old lady narcolepsy, I think.

StoneofDestiny · 30/04/2019 10:37

If the QM was alive and posted her views on race on here her comments would be zapped! (As would Phil the Greeks’ and Margarets’.)

Samcro · 30/04/2019 10:39

Tatiana ooh now thats a nice name for a baby.

WineIsMyCarb · 30/04/2019 10:40

@Humpy your DH sounds sexy. Would he like to come round to my country estate and have an affair? I'm sure we could keep it out of the papers...Wink

DSHathawayGivesMeFannyGallops · 30/04/2019 10:44

@MagicKingdomDizzy, I see what you mean. My dad fought in the Cyprus campaign & has no medal at all. We found my great uncles ww2 medal clutch though. We enjoyed finding out what they all meant, he had 8!

BishopBrennansArse · 30/04/2019 10:52

@StoneofDestiny yeah including a large unsettled account in debit with Ladbrokes, I believe...

elfies · 30/04/2019 10:53

Does anyone else think Prince Harry is very like pictures of Young Henry the Eighth

StoneofDestiny · 30/04/2019 11:01

No

Harry has Phil's eyes and nose

Just caught up on thread and all the stuff about public speaking. I think they are all pretty shit at speeches to be honest but actually I have no desire to hear them speak. I mean what are they going to say that is that interesting? They haven't achieved their positions through being super clever or creating something amazing so a simple cut the ribbon and thanks for having me is enough for me.

And please do not lecture on the environment or social media when getting out of your helicopter or launching your own Instagram account.

Humpy84 · 30/04/2019 11:05

Appreciate @genevieve and was listening to a talk on gender bias and sexism being systemic in science and research studies and I often wonder if this plays a part.

I wish I’d read your comment when I was anxious new Mum. He is 2.5 now and I asked him if he’d been drinking sink water while he was playing with it yesterday, he said, “Probably” and also uses word “actually” correctly. Is loved and adored little boy and I think that’s all that matters. The quest for perfection in our offspring is a sign of our indulged & misguided times.

@rubbertreeplant I was just trying to say that genetic diversity in a family who has a smaller genetic pool can only be a good thing. Also, the baby will be beautiful and interesting is all. People criticised WIlliam for marrying someone middle class but as you can see by their children it was a better choice than marrying a 3rd aristocratic cousin.

Humpy84 · 30/04/2019 11:06

@winelsmycarb we love the English countryside so maybe we could both come 😂

mrscampbellblackagain · 30/04/2019 11:09

I find it interesting how the media narrative of Carole Middleton as some latter day Mrs Bennett is just accepted by so many. My main issue with the media coverage of both Kate and Meghan is that it is just so mean and sexist.

I really believe that both couples just fell in love and got married without any weird social climbing as their main agenda. But then I would hate for any of my children to marry into the RF.

justasking111 · 30/04/2019 11:09

They have to give serious speeches, which in the main are pretty dry unless you have a vested interest in the subject matter. They certainly do their homework beforehand when meeting people. I have read of stories told about the Queen at private parties and she is very funny with her observations of life, people. Charles used to be funny, have not heard him speak for a while.

Humpy84 · 30/04/2019 11:18

@mrwcampbelblackagain being from a solidly middle class background I don’t find it that hard to believe. Mothers are often so ambitious for their daughters. Apparently Pippa favoured the well connected at Edinburgh University and she didn’t exactly marry a plumber. I guess those were the circles they swim in but it can’t be that organic. I can’t even imagine how posh and competitive those women are in those circles. I am from Australia and went to a private girls school where girls and their mothers super ambitious but the UK private schools and aristos would be next level. I don’t think Kate would have just been welcomed into that circle with open arms by the women. It’s doubtful that it was an easy ride to being a princess.

DSHathawayGivesMeFannyGallops · 30/04/2019 11:18

I definitely think diversity in the RF is a positive thing, and yes, Brennan- I've also always thought Harry has a look of Philip.

We have had one royal announcement today- Emperor Akihito has abdicated.

Humpy84 · 30/04/2019 11:19

Plus it would have been expensive to socialise in those circles and funded by her mother, didn’t Cressida complain she couldn’t keep up with the costs ? And jetsetting?

WineIsMyCarb · 30/04/2019 11:21

@Humpy Whatever gets you off! Please bring frisbee for your DH...

MissParple · 30/04/2019 11:25

I thought Pippa had married a much older man. But he's actually quite young, just a bit ancient looking.
