Yes i know its dreadful programme, and i probanly should do sometging better with my life. Mondays my day off and i quite like a slower start to the day.

But some of these "stories" can't be real can they?
This morning I was just like surely people don't actually behave like this in real lite do they?
Are these people actally auditioning for Corrie and Emerdale and these are scripts written by trainee script writers.

Or if ITV arent compicity are people doing what the trolls do on here makimg up stories for the amusement and stringimg ITV along just to get on TV? cos again these senerios can't actally be real can tjey?

I knew one person on there (not well, recognised them from school days) so definitely not all faked.

NaughtToThreeSadOnions · 29/04/2019 16:22

I said some and most not all

I’ve always wondered if it was real or fake! Hoping someone comes along to confirm

BananasAreTheSourceOfEvil · 29/04/2019 16:24

Never known anyone on there personally, but I used to live in an area where JK-like behaviour was the norm. Confused

OldAndWornOut · 29/04/2019 16:26

My neighbour and her family were on there a couple of months ago. All legit.

Persimmonn · 29/04/2019 16:27

I refuse to watch it. I remember being at home when dc2 was born and watching it every morning. It depressed me and made me feel dirty. Unfortunately these people are real and YOU the audience spur on the circus and should be ashamed. I used to work with someone who’s friend was forced to go on it by his ex or something. It’s disgusting how the producers push these people on, just for entertainment.

Stop watching it and stop the circus.

donajimena · 29/04/2019 16:28

I read his book once. Don't shoot me I was stuck in an antenatal ward for a week and it was slim pickings Grin
I read that the contestants are from such deprived circumstances that a trip on the show with all expenses paid was almost a holiday (thats not a verbatim quote) it made me really uncomfortable and the show makes me uncomfortable. Obviously thats no proof that they are genuine but it would explain why there never appears to be a shortage of guests.

mum2three0 · 29/04/2019 16:30

My neighbour was on there. Not faked in their circumstances. They hated each other!
The paint that was spoken about on the show is still on the house

Iwantacookie · 29/04/2019 16:30

I know 2 people who went on it.
One was paternity the other was to support a friend.
This morning's was a bit Shock but I would of loved to see who the bloke was they were fighting over.

AnnieMay100 · 29/04/2019 16:32

I agree some of the storylines seem like actors, it’s definitely tweaked for entertainment... a friend of a friend went on there for a dna test and was asked to dress in a tracksuit and swear a lot but he is actually very middle class irl they just didn’t want to portray him as such
Haven’t watched it for years but gives me a giggle when I do

TixieLix · 29/04/2019 16:33

I've watched it a few times (I know, inexcusable!) It shocks me how many people in the UK are missing so many teeth at such a young age.

OldAndWornOut · 29/04/2019 16:33

My neighbour didn't do well out of it.
A taxi (very cramped) from the south east up to Manchester.
2 packets of fags and a hairdo.
I think they had snack type food in the hotel, but nothing to write home about.

Kaykay06 · 29/04/2019 16:35

Wouldn’t know, actually cant watch it it’s so cringe and I never wanted to listen to shouting when my kids were small so didn’t have it on. Makes me wonder who does watch it, bloody awful tv imo

BlueThesaurusRex · 29/04/2019 16:41

I saw one where a woman had been on before and was on again to do a lie detector test on a friend who she thought had stolen from her. Before the results she even said she didn’t think it was possible he’d done it but she wanted to go on because she fancied Jeremy Kyle Confused

TowelNumber42 · 29/04/2019 16:44

Ha! I live in a naice place now but I have lived in some awful places. I have some family members who are seriously personality disordered. I can easily believe those people are real.

I also believe many will ham it up for the cameras. 15 minutes of fame combined with nothing to lose, mad ideas about what makes a person good and strong along with bugger all self-awareness.

Realising there are such loons in such great supply affecting so many lives helps you understand why so many sections of the population get so cross with out of touch liberal elites. Imagine having to deal with those JK guests every day of your life. .

Sweetpea55 · 29/04/2019 16:45

Most of the people are missing half their teeth

NaughtToThreeSadOnions · 29/04/2019 16:45

this morning's was a bitbut I would of loved to see who the bloke was they were fighting over

That was the story i was talking about. The way all three of them were so proud, it was all "yeah i did and what" i was just like errr no one behaves like this do they??

I don't doubt srories are real, or pulled from thecloeest socio-econic groups possiable when they are real. In fact the lack of self care in some is very evident. But really some of them are so extrene

it’s definitely tweaked for entertainment... a friend of a friend went on there for a dna test and was asked to dress in a tracksuit and swear a lot but he is actually very middle class irl they just didn’t want to portray him as such

Ob was he portayef as the feckless jobless ansentee dad? See this is why i say trolls because you do get the genuine cases but its seemed to be over egged sometines

I pointblank refuse to watch it because it simply makes a mockery of the working and ‘under’ class. Oh let’s all sit on our ivory towers mocking the peasants. It’s like the modern day version of a freak show.

I believe they are all real people, yes. The majority are vulnerable, maybe some SN or MH issues and ITV use and abuse them. It’s shameful.

CurcubitaPepo · 29/04/2019 16:46

A woman I used to know went on it.
She’s the type who could have a fight in an empty room.

Ewitsahooman · 29/04/2019 16:49

A company I used to work for used the same hotels in Manchester that JK used for their guests. We hated Manchester meetings for that reason.

I don't know if it's still case but back then they were given a bar tab, paid for by the production company, and encouraged to make use of it by the staff member(s) minding them. The staff member(s) would stir things between guests and on more than one occasion we overheard them saying to one person that another person had said this about them while they were in the loo. They would be up and down the corridors of the hotel all night, I once asked to be moved after the couple in the next room were in and out of their door every five minutes, arguing away. They would be told that they were being collected for the show at 9am however the production staff would arrive and start knocking on doors at 7am which is why some of them look extra tired and disheveled.

It's a shitty TV show that exploits vulnerable people.

ClashCityRocker · 29/04/2019 16:59

Someone I went to school with was on it twice.

She had a hugely troubled upbringing, in and out of care, and had additional educational needs at school. She's now very much repeating what her own mother did, right down to the kids in care and terrible life choices in terms of partners.

Her life is bloody tragic, and shouldn't be put out there for entertainment of the masses. It feels bloody exploitative.

StoneofDestiny · 29/04/2019 17:52

Seems like a programme that exploits socially inadequate individuals. No normal person would go on TV telling the world who they slept with (several partners a night), that they were clueless who the parent of their child was, and that they were so booze or drug addled most days of the week they ended up fighting in the street and were still ready to fight on TV. Gross stuff.

Ursulasunderstudy · 29/04/2019 17:59

I’ve been asked to go on it in a professional capacity a few times. But all the families on there were completely legit and boasted about a night in a hotel and slap up meal. It’s uncomfortable viewing and I think lots of people who go on have mental health issues/learning difficulties, which, in my book makes it ethically wrong. How it’s been dragged out for so long is unbelievable!
I also once met a researcher for the show and they were like a proper hardcore sales person, thinking of ways I could go on....erm no thanks love.....

qazxc · 29/04/2019 18:05

They aren't trolls or actors but are manipulated by the production staff to a fairly big extent.
This will include things like:

  • Giving them a lot to drink and playing them against each other to get juicy quotes and enrage them as much as possible.
  • Getting some guests early and with no notice from hotel so that they look unkempt/ greasy haired as they haven't had the time to grab a shower, get ready.
-Egging them on that they need to make sure that they get X,Y or Z across. this is why they all come out screaming the same sentence over and over again without listening to anything anybody else says. Failure to make your point with sufficient forcefulness will result in the host berating you for not caring/ not being passionate enough/ not having anything about you.
