To ask for a few changes to MN?

I bet this has been done to death & I've just missed the party but it not...

AIBU to ask that mn gives us an equivalent of a thumbs up / like button along with a variety of short cuts to convey other emotions?

Let me explain...I've just read a post that I agree with. Instead of just being able to click on a like button, I've had to concentrate of finding out the name of the poster, type it out correctly, do all the faffy asterix things to highlight it, do the arrow thing (^) and say "this".

WTAF! I'm busy, and spend far too much time on mn as it is! Grin.

Can't they just do buttons under the posts that we can actually click on, rather than all of the above, and actually having to type out the word "grin" within bloody square brackets!

You must get shed loads of revenue from surveys, advertisers, promotions etc, please invest some of that in making mn more efficient!

square bracket smiley face square bracket,

Asterix thanks very much, asterix - you get my point!

Grin

That really is not a quote button though. It is using a keyboard button to bold a sentence. Totally different

Tigger001 · 28/04/2019 00:01

Rude and aggressive posters can be reported.

I don't want to report them, I don't really want to see them in the 1st place.

Tigger001 · 28/04/2019 00:02

Sorry that was a quote from @ScottishDoll

applesarerroundandshiny · 28/04/2019 00:19

How do you copy and paste using app on phone?

TattiePants · 28/04/2019 00:45

Sparklingbrook after 10 years on MN I’ve learnt something new. I love the bookmark function!

saraclara · 28/04/2019 08:16

So why can't new members have bookmarks?

Also telling posters to 'go back to where they came from if they don't like it here'?
Hmmm...

That apart, MN is very much more than just a feature it lacks, so it's a ridiculous response. Nothing in life moves forward if people don't notice, suggest and act on improvements.

GreytExpectations · 28/04/2019 08:33

Nothing in life moves forward if people don't notice, suggest and act on improvements.

Good point! Mumsnetters are so precious about their site that god forbid someone make a suggestion for improvement. Its as if they personally developed the site that they get very defensive about it

IceRebel · 28/04/2019 08:50

Nothing in life moves forward if people don't notice, suggest and act on improvements.

This is very true. I'm another who would like a quote button, and the ability to edit posts. (Obviously a post would say when it was edited, so people know it has been altered in some way)

I think it's strange that MN introduced the @ function, which i've never seen anyone ask for, but won't trial / test other more useful features.

hareinthemoonlight · 28/04/2019 08:53

Reddit is Reddit and MN is MN. Different places, different people.

GreytExpectations · 28/04/2019 09:15

Different places, different people.

Its the internet, there are loads of different people across all sites. You dont get a 'specific' group of people on reddit as its a website 10x bigger than mumsnet with a diverse crowd, its also global. Mumsnet is a tiny spec compared to a site like that. But not that im complaining, MN has its place in the world. My point is the internet is full of different people so you cant expect a site to only have a certain type.

Italia2005 · 28/04/2019 09:33

To bookmark: try lightly tapping the post once and a blue ‘bookmark’ bar should appear at the right of the post, tap that and it will change to ‘saving’, then ‘saved’.

amandacarnet · 28/04/2019 09:51

Yes laughing at those saying reddit is a certain kind of person. Reddit is enormous and las lots of individual forums, which each attract different kids of people.
And it is enormous.
It also allows users much more control over their content than mn does and is also constantly mined by journalists.

amandacarnet · 28/04/2019 09:52

Nothing will change though. I have seen lots of threads like this and nothing changes. Not even the culling of the ridiculously large number of sub forums, many that are hardly used.

Sparklingbrook · 28/04/2019 10:08

I too was a bit confused about the @ function thing. I don't recall anyone asking for it either.
I switched it off straight away.

IceRebel · 28/04/2019 10:10

So glad it's not just me sparkling. I've no idea where it came from, or why it was added, and as a feature goes it's pretty crap.

Mother87 · 28/04/2019 10:21

VioletCharlotte - am probably being dumb😳but when it press on posters name, it doesn't do anything/give me options to copy & paste??

GreytExpectations · 28/04/2019 10:21

@amandacarnet
Yes laughing at those saying reddit is a certain kind of person.

Glad it wasnt just me laughing! I swear, MN must think they are some "lower kind" 😂

PCohle · 28/04/2019 10:40

Grey you seem to have a strange reverse snobbery about mumsnet and are seeing "high school girls" at every turn. It's a bit odd* * to take a discussion of like buttons as such personal criticism.

Maybe it's just not "middle class" enough for MN?

Geez, chill out, we arent in some kind of "cool high school girl clique"

Honestly, i think Mumsnet can be quite abusive.

Good god, the women on this thread are like high school popular girls.

I swear, MN must think they are some "lower kind"

Awwlookatmybabyspider · 28/04/2019 10:55

An edit button would be a good idea.
No to a like or dislike button.

echt · 28/04/2019 11:01

The thumbs up button is bollocks. Lazy. If a poster has a view, write it.

I post on my late DH's Facebook ( I know, contradictory ) and amazed that people just post likes. What's the point? Say something, you lazy fuckers.

iklboo · 28/04/2019 11:44

@Mother87 - you don't press on their name, you need to press and hold on what they're written then copy / paste the text. Hopefully that should work.

amandacarnet · 28/04/2019 12:23

You need to press and hold until the copy icon comes up. Then move the arrow to copy what you want. Then press and hold until the paste icon comes up. Then insert these * either side. It is a total faff.

amandacarnet · 28/04/2019 12:23

Echt, except in reality you get thirty posters all saying exactly the same thing. It discourages proper conversation

Jux · 28/04/2019 13:08

Easy enough to sccroll through a load of people saying the same thing imo.

Lack of an edit button makes you think about what you actually want to say, or risk marking yourself as a twat! Posting and running is obvious and can be ignored.

GreytExpectations · 28/04/2019 13:27

@PCohle as much as i find Mumsnet usful in certain things (which is why i continue to use it) it is a very judgemental and stuck up forum, compared to other internet ones which is why i hold that opinion.
