To ask for a few changes to MN?

I bet this has been done to death & I've just missed the party but it not...

AIBU to ask that mn gives us an equivalent of a thumbs up / like button along with a variety of short cuts to convey other emotions?

Let me explain...I've just read a post that I agree with. Instead of just being able to click on a like button, I've had to concentrate of finding out the name of the poster, type it out correctly, do all the faffy asterix things to highlight it, do the arrow thing (^) and say "this".

WTAF! I'm busy, and spend far too much time on mn as it is! .

Can't they just do buttons under the posts that we can actually click on, rather than all of the above, and actually having to type out the word "grin" within bloody square brackets!

You must get shed loads of revenue from surveys, advertisers, promotions etc, please invest some of that in making mn more efficient!

I think this would be a really good idea. Could actually be a bit of fun! And itd have the POLL in the subject line so people who didnt like it would know beforehand

If there was a "like" function I'd give you a thumbs up for that idea Greyt but as this is a more intelligent site, I shall type out my response, thus engaging with you directly in a meaningful way.

DIgital Spy has a quote thing and it's awful. Impossible to read properly on a phone and just looks like a big mess.

Oooooh yeah a poll feature would be fab. Each poster can't do more than say 3 a week though, so no one poster can spam the site with polls.

I know of a forum that gives you two minutes to edit. So it's fine for correcting typos, but it means the poster doesn't get to edit it because someone's had a go at them or for any other nefarious reason.

The preview isn't an answer to typos. You don't know you've made one until it's too late!

Some of my suggestions and things others have suggested over the last year, are simply ways to make the site easier to use on an android phone. Refusing to improve functionality as technology changes and as more people use phones than anything else to access MN, is not a quirky unique feature.
I am hardly an expert on this,but from the courses I have attended I know MN rates very poorly on basic functionality tests.
So yes sites do need to move with the times or they lose users.

Some people love nested comments and some hate them. That kind of thing is a personal preference.

It's not that I want it to be like other sites, because this is the only site I use. Doesn't mean there couldn't be improvements, though.

Except one person's opinion of an 'improvement' to the forum is another person's idea of the very opposite..
