To ask for a few changes to MN?

I bet this has been done to death & I've just missed the party but it not...

AIBU to ask that mn gives us an equivalent of a thumbs up / like button along with a variety of short cuts to convey other emotions?

Let me explain...I've just read a post that I agree with. Instead of just being able to click on a like button, I've had to concentrate of finding out the name of the poster, type it out correctly, do all the faffy asterix things to highlight it, do the arrow thing (^) and say "this".

WTAF! I'm busy, and spend far too much time on mn as it is! Grin.

Can't they just do buttons under the posts that we can actually click on, rather than all of the above, and actually having to type out the word "grin" within bloody square brackets!

You must get shed loads of revenue from surveys, advertisers, promotions etc, please invest some of that in making mn more efficient!

square bracket smiley face square bracket,

Asterix thanks very much, asterix - you get my point!

Grin

It's all a bit too Black Mirror for me Grin

NaughtToThreeSadOnions · 27/04/2019 17:22

can have a middle finger button?

Well it sort of exists if you are able to use emojis 🖕 but maybe it could be added to the MN emoticons

NameChangerAmI · 27/04/2019 17:24

Caughtinanet I'm affronted!

I've been an intermittent reader and poster for probably 10 ish or so years. I've had to name change several times, unfortunately. I'm certainly not on mn every single day, and manage to survive without mn Shock sometimes for days, weeks, proud to say even months at a time.

I can tell by your smug post that you're on here several times a day ^pretty regularly Wink.

Tongue in cheek post, obviously.

While we are at it can you close AIBU for a few weeks?
Redecorate or summat.

Ihopeyourcakeisshit · 27/04/2019 17:28

I think I have a very polite tablet.
I have no middle finger, trust me I've checked several timesWink

What PP have said about a like button killing debate stone dead is a good point.

But surely most posters would use a thumbs up to like/unlike a post, then still go onto make their point by adding to the thread.

I certainly wouldn't choose either a like button instead of posting my own comments.

That's me trying to copy and paste.

nope, can't copy the poster's name. A quote button would be great

Would also save the "I agree with so and so" and you have to try and find out who and what they have said

planesinthesky · 27/04/2019 17:37

It frustrates me how quick Mumsnet are to delete whole threads. Why not just lock them? I constantly get engrossed in a thread then come back later to finish reading it, just to find the whole thing has been deleted. If the OP was trolling, then just write that in the thread title. It's especially annoying when the OP doesn't get the replies they want and so gets MN to delete the whole thread due to 'privacy concerns' Angry

Binglebong · 27/04/2019 17:39

I'd like to he able to get update emails only when the op updates. The number of times I've seen an update, clicked excitedly and seen "hope you're ok op" is ridiculous.

wednes · 27/04/2019 17:40
  • No like or thumbs up; think of AIBU. It would be terrible.

A quote function tho'. That's what dreams are made of.*

100% agree

NameChangerAmI · 27/04/2019 17:42

A quote button is the way forward.

OP posts:
Sparklingbrook · 27/04/2019 17:43

I don't want any of the above. Thanks.

One of the good things about MN is that it isn't like every other site.

wednes · 27/04/2019 17:43

A lot of people don't quote properly and just say 'I agree with such and such' which means I have to ferret around trying to find what they agree with.

Quotes pleeeeease

HardAsSnails · 27/04/2019 17:44

"A quote button is the way forward."

It's really not!

This is a talk forum, not a popularity contest.

The simplicity also helps make it very accessible.

amandacarnet · 27/04/2019 17:44

Copy and paste certainly does not take 0.5 seconds on my iPad. It is actually quite laborious. I don't even try to do it on my phone.
Most people access sites through phones and I don't find mn easy to use this way. So just don't access mn now using my phone at all

amandacarnet · 27/04/2019 17:45

Reddit though is easy on my phone.

Takethebuscuitandthesink · 27/04/2019 17:50

I think the problem with a range of reaction buttons would be that it would discourage people from actually contributing to the conversation. Also I think it will mean you don’t get a variety of opinions as people who hold unpopular opinions will be put off from airing them as they will just get torn down by an overwhelming amount of dislikes. What I would support is an up/down voting system for threads and the ones with the most upvotes get put in trending and the most downvoted threads get buried.

Jux · 27/04/2019 17:50

I prefer it like this. Thank you

daisychain01 · 27/04/2019 17:52

I have no middle finger, trust me I've checked several times

Are you iOS or Android? If you're iOS ie iPad just type the words Middle Finger and it pops up on your auto suggest bar >>> 🖕

If you're android then maybe it's very middle class and twee Grin

daisychain01 · 27/04/2019 17:56

It could lead to some nasty behaviours having a down vote with people piling in on one poster which would make them feel worse than the average flaming on here. It would be 🔥 🔥 🔥 🔥 plus plus plus.

We don't need MN turning into a bog standard SM platform with buttons everywhere. Nope thank you!

amandacarnet · 27/04/2019 17:57

Mn needs to be easier to use on android phones.
MN is much less busy than it used to be.
But I doubt anything will change. Investment is never prioritised.

lljkk · 27/04/2019 18:04

I have wanted a like button for ages.

HardAsSnails · 27/04/2019 18:07

"MN is much less busy than it used to be"

That's not true!

July 2016 17 million site visits

June 2018 26 million site visits

amandacarnet · 27/04/2019 18:09

Site visits includes reading. I am talking about actual comments. There are less threads and comments than before. It is noticeable.
