To ask for a few changes to MN?

I bet this has been done to death & I've just missed the party but it not...

AIBU to ask that mn gives us an equivalent of a thumbs up / like button along with a variety of short cuts to convey other emotions?

Let me explain...I've just read a post that I agree with. Instead of just being able to click on a like button, I've had to concentrate of finding out the name of the poster, type it out correctly, do all the faffy asterix things to highlight it, do the arrow thing (^) and say "this".

WTAF! I'm busy, and spend far too much time on mn as it is! Grin.

Can't they just do buttons under the posts that we can actually click on, rather than all of the above, and actually having to type out the word "grin" within bloody square brackets!

You must get shed loads of revenue from surveys, advertisers, promotions etc, please invest some of that in making mn more efficient!

square bracket smiley face square bracket,

Asterix thanks very much, asterix - you get my point!

Grin

If you want to quote another post, just copy/paste the name and text and add asterisks. Takes about 10 seconds.

I think a thumbs up button is completely pointless unless you also have thumbs down. Digital Spy had both then some of the whiners whined and they removed thumbs down. Makes the whole thing pointless. If you care enough about a post to click a button then you should care enough to write a response.

ShirleyPhallus · 27/04/2019 16:51

The “shall we add a like button” has been done to death here and the answer is a resounding no

ThroughThickAndThin01 · 27/04/2019 16:52

No, I don’t want a thumbs up/down thing going on.

VioletCharlotte · 27/04/2019 16:54

Wow, I never knew that! Thanks for the tip Smile

PCohle · 27/04/2019 16:59

No thanks.

GreytExpectations · 27/04/2019 17:01

I agree OP. Wish it was more like Reddit with upvotes and such.

Gth1234 · 27/04/2019 17:02

Quoting a post - It would be easier to have a "quote" button at the bottom

It would also be useful to let users amend their posts for say 30 mins after posting.

GreytExpectations · 27/04/2019 17:03

Laughing at the PPs who seem so unnecessarily against the idea, like its some awful thing. Maybe its just not "middle class" enough for MN? 😂

iklboo · 27/04/2019 17:05

There are shortcuts to the emoticons on the app.

PCohle · 27/04/2019 17:07

I'm not "unnecessarily against the idea" I just think that having to type out your thoughts forces you to contribute to and expand the discussion.

For example rather than just "disliking" GreytExpectation's post I've had to explain why I disagree.

There are a lot of other forums that have the upvote/downvote system. If you really prefer it, use another site. It's always seemed rather self-centred to me, insisting MN change to suit your preferences.

Ihopeyourcakeisshit · 27/04/2019 17:07

If we were going to have any shortcut digit buttons I'd really like a middle finger one Grin although I know that's not quite in keeping with the site's philosophy perhaps.

NameChangerAmI · 27/04/2019 17:09

Gth1234 you talk a lot of sense - a quote button. Thumbs up to that! Grin

VioletCharlotte my laptop doesn't let me copy * paste the name, only the comments.

SilverySurfer yes, I agree - I meant a thumbs down, too.

Even if we could scroll down and just click on the emoji that we wanted to include in our posts, I feel that would be an improvement.

Seems it's not a popular opinion, though.

GreytExpectations I thought that too!

BendydickCuminsnatch · 27/04/2019 17:09

I reeeeeeeally want to option to show JUST OP posts. NOT just highlight them, obviously everyone has that enabled... but on CF threads which go on for weeks and have pages of people making jokes, ‘following’, saying the same thing over and over - i don’t want to have to scroll through all that, just give me the OP’s updates!

Someone please tell me that feature already exists and i’ve Just missed it all this time 😄

AdaColeman · 27/04/2019 17:10

Mumsnet depends on interactive discussion and debate to keep it vibrant and interesting. "Like" buttons would kill it stone dead.

caughtinanet · 27/04/2019 17:10

It done to death on an almost weekly basis, you obviously aren't a regular poster.

Do a search for like button, or save to you time - some posters like them, more posters hate them and there's next to no chance it'll be introduced

ilovesooty · 27/04/2019 17:12

No thank you.
And I certainly don't want it to be more like Reddit.

MrsWillGardner · 27/04/2019 17:12

👍🏻 @ OP.

Dana28 · 27/04/2019 17:13

My bugbear is people Ignoring the 70 or so other boards and posting anything and Everything in aibu .

sackrifice · 27/04/2019 17:14

No like or thumbs up; think of AIBU. It would be terrible.

A quote function tho'. That's what dreams are made of.

NameChangerAmI · 27/04/2019 17:14

PCohle I'm not insisting - just making a suggestion and beggingwondering whether other posters' opinions differ from mine, but I see your point.

Nah, I'm not going anywhere - I love mn, and will put up with all the faffing about rather than go somewhere else.

As for Ihopeyourcakeisshit - a middle finger button - that's the best idea I've ever read on here!

OP posts:
WeirdAndPissedOff · 27/04/2019 17:15

I originally thought that when I joined here, too.
But now I think it would increase the twattery you often see, if anything, and wouldn't really add anything of value.
With the goady posts, or the people who post really over the top replies, you can already imagine then sitting there pleased with how clever they've been - I think adding likes or dislikes would only intensify that.

NameChangerAmI · 27/04/2019 17:16

Dear MNHQ can you run a poll on whether or not we can have a middle finger button?

OP posts:
NaughtToThreeSadOnions · 27/04/2019 17:18

I agree OP. Wish it was more like Reddit with upvotes and such*

Not to be rude but if you wish it was redditt go and use reddit then

And ohh look i've just quoted some one without a quote button took 0.05 secomds

Sorry but you dont have to quote and go ^this at all you can write your own response which by the way takes longer than quoting and satlying this.
Or you could jist not reply as what you've what you've wanted to say has already said
Or you could say pp or PP As in i agree with PP(S)

sorry a lot of people like that theres no quote/up vote button

Theres very easy short cuts to the formatting tools under the reply box in the little circle with I on and to emoticons on the little circle witj a smiley on

ShirleyPhallus · 27/04/2019 17:19

Absolute lolz at thinking that not wanting a like button somehow is a middle class decision
