What do you call the ends of your bread?

Following on from another post ... What do you call the end of a loaf? I've always called it the heal .... Everyone I know calls it a crust... Is there any more?

But interested in PP's comment about baguettes - wouldn't call the end of a baguette a heel; even though it's more heel-shaped than a standard loaf. I've always just called it the "end bit" however I might start calling it le talon from now on!

OP I think that you mean heel which I’ve only heard in Ireland. We call it the crust and it’s the best bit.

Heel! I argued with my English DP about this recently. He calls it crust but crust is the bits on the ends of slices, not the whole bit at the end!!!!

Yes, but the end bit is all made of crust.
I call them crusts. Have heard heel (Wales).
