Following on from another post ... What do you call the end of a loaf? I've always called it the heal .... Everyone I know calls it a crust... Is there any more?

Crust if pre-sliced. Heel or end if a fresh loaf.

itbemay1 · 27/04/2019 15:25

Same as @DramaAlpaca I call it crust and Irish DH the heal.

If a baguette, we call them the "end tegs" but crust otherwise.

Looks a bit weird written down.

Gwenhwyfar · 27/04/2019 15:29

Crusts. Same with pizza.

Heel, Irish.
Never seen us as ‘heal’ before.
Isn’t heel a reference to the end but, as in your leg/heel?

EnglishRose13 · 27/04/2019 15:33

The knobby and it's the best bit!

cinnamonbun · 27/04/2019 15:33

The crust , or the end pieces

MikeUniformMike · 27/04/2019 15:33

Crust and heel. The crust is the top bit, the heel the last bit.
