Can we have an unpopular opinions thread?

For things that are agreed as gospel on MN

I'll start: I like dressing my kids in matching outfits and I really enjoy a Butlins holiday

I also don't think Nevaeh is that bad

OP posts:
JanMeyer · 22/04/2019 23:54

Are you missing the point of this thread, or am I missing your point at not getting your parody?!

What's your problem? It's an unpopular opinons thread, that doesn't mean people can't be challenged on their stupid views, does it now?

MariaNovella · 22/04/2019 23:56

Children should have a first orthodontist appointment at 7 or 8 at the latest. Adult teeth should only need to be extracted in exceptional circumstances.

Ellisandra · 22/04/2019 23:58

Most of the “contraceptive failures” reported on MN are user failures. Mostly accidental, a much smaller number simply reckless, a very small number subconsciously deliberate, and one or two quite consciously deliberate.

Downunderduchess · 23/04/2019 00:04

What is dire SPAG?? I'm from Australia, down here it means spaghetti bolognaise, we say spag bol.

Also, hunting should most definitely be banned everywhere.

CarolDanvers · 23/04/2019 00:06

Kids shouldn't have to do regular chores. As long as they can work the washing machine, cook a simple meal and self care, they'll figure the rest out.

It's fine to cook separate meals for each family member.

Disney World and Orlando are the best holiday ever.

In a marriage, one of the couple is always getting a better deal and is happier than the other. It can change and alternate periodically though but usually one dominates and gets more out of being married to the other.

Weddings are boring, self indulgent and ultimately meaningless.

It's fine to have a dog in a flat.

Term time holidays are fine and no one else's business.

You’re taking this thread too seriously! It’s clear to me the opinions people are proffering are (generally) not their own... but rather opinions that are taboo on MN! I don’t actually believe any of the things I’ve actually posted!

70sWitch · 23/04/2019 00:08

SOME of these opinions are unpopular for a reason. Just plain nasty and/or stupid.

CarolDanvers · 23/04/2019 00:10

Sansa is the best female character in GOT.

Oakenbeach · 23/04/2019 00:15

Actually, JanMeyer , I think CamillafromCobham comments were probably her actual views based on their content... I apologise.

CarolDanvers · 23/04/2019 00:20

No one should be paid to be a “carer” for their own child.

Utter bollocks. What if their child is so disabled that the parent can never work out of the home to bring money in? Should they starve in the gutter? Stupid.

Nos123 · 23/04/2019 00:25

To think that some parents would rather their child be diagnosed with special needs than admit they just aren’t that smart/academic.

Disclaimer: not talking about children who actually have SEN. Also not saying that children with special needs can’t be intelligent.

shitpark · 23/04/2019 00:25

Nearly all men on dating sites are potential rapists
Lots of women are bitches

Ticklingcheese · 23/04/2019 00:35

After having rthft, it seems everybody considers themselves right and nice and everybody else wrong and disgusting. 😕

Wonder why people failing or ttc can get away with murder (or appalling behavior) on MN?

bakedbeanzontoast · 23/04/2019 00:39

Getting a first class degree is easy due to enforced grade inflation these days.

minipie · 23/04/2019 00:44

Most kids are given too many sweets and snacks

Happy mum does not always equal happy baby

Co sleeping doesn’t work for everyone

It’s ok to take a safety risk (even for your kids) if it’s small and outweighed by benefits of taking the risk

Vaccinations can have negative side effects

Some kids would rather their parents stayed together even if they’re no longer happy in the marriage, as long as they can fake it

Not everyone regrets an abortion.

Being looked after by a full time SAHP is not always the best thing for a child.

FissionChips · 23/04/2019 00:49

‘Happy mum=happy baby’ people are usually very selfish.

Mooncups are disgusting.

Purpletigers · 23/04/2019 00:52

A lot of charities are overrated and when people say they’d donate millions if they won the lottery they’re probably lying . I’d keep the whole lot .

Dogs are not fur babies .

No one should get benefits until they’ve paid into the pot for a few years .

16 year olds are too young to be having sex and having their boyfriend and girlfriends sleep over. You’re dating , go home to your own bed .

He’s your boyfriend / girlfriend if you’re not married . Partners are something you have in business.
You can only ever rely on yourself .

Purpletigers · 23/04/2019 00:52

Breastfeeding is best .

FissionChips · 23/04/2019 00:59

People who are obsessed with diagnosing people as narcissists are self absorbed, attention seeking weirdos.

Purpletigers · 23/04/2019 01:11

Not one of my closest friends or immediate family have ever had an “ accidental “ pregnancy .

Getting straight A’s isn’t necessarily a marker of intelligence.

Some children just aren’t that bright , they don’t have special needs they’re just not very clever .

Schools focus too much on intellectual ability .

A lot of degrees are a waste of time and money.

There should be some kind of test you sit before having children .

Purpletigers · 23/04/2019 01:12

Football is shite.

Purpletigers · 23/04/2019 01:26

If your child keeps getting into trouble at school , it probably is your fault .

TomPinch · 23/04/2019 01:37

There were more lies told by the Scot Nats during the 2014 Scottish referendum than by Leavers in the 2016 Brexit referendum.

Breaking up the UK would be teen times as disruptive as the UK leaving the EU.

Scottish nationalists' views are given an easy ride.

JanMeyer · 23/04/2019 01:42

Actually, JanMeyer , I think CamillafromCobham comments were probably her actual views based on their content... I apologise.

Apology accepted, I was just confused by your response to my post and I was wondering if I was misunderstanding your post in some way I couldn't see, your explanation in your other post clarifies that for me.

Marcipex · 23/04/2019 01:52

Soaps are awful and a bad influence on children.

Breastfeeding is a slog and formula is okay.

Many more children are turning out lazy and unmotivated. Rude and ungrateful. I see it all the time.
