For things that are agreed as gospel on MN

I'll start: I like dressing my kids in matching outfits and I really enjoy a Butlins holiday

I also don't think Nevaeh is that bad

OP posts:

I have no respect for your degree if it’s not from Oxbridge.

If you let your under 16 year old drink fizzy drinks you’re a bad parent.

JuniorAsparagus · 23/04/2019 21:27

We had 2 months without a kitchen I never want to see frozen microwaveable mash again, but microwavable rice is the way to go.

Drogosnextwife · 23/04/2019 21:29

Farmed fur is less bad than fake fur, both environmentally and in terms of employment practices.

What? I would love to hear that one explained abbot more.

WeCameToDance · 23/04/2019 21:38

Well if this thread has shown me anything it's which usernames to take no notice of in the future as the people behind them spew nonsense.

IndiaLee · 23/04/2019 21:40

I have lots.

Part 1...

Avocado is vile.

Grey hair is very ageing on women under 60.

It's OK for girls to wear pink and boys to wear blue, and for girls to play with dolls and want to be hairdressers and nurses, and for boys to play with lego and toy cars and to want to be mechanics and pilots.

Conversely, it's OK for girls NOT to want to be mechanics and pilots and for boys to NOT want to be hairdressers and nurses.

IVF should not be provided on the NHS. Neither should any kind of weight loss surgery, or weight loss repair surgery (like loose skin removal.)

Not every badly behaved/disruptive child has a personality disorder or 'condition'.. some are just badly behaved, badly brought up little tykes who are a product of poor parenting. (Not saying there is no such thing as autism or ADHD, just that some kids who are disruptive are just naughty kids, with not-very-good parents...)

Women are funnier than men. Most women I know are hilarious, most men just think they are.

It's OK to be a stay-at-home-mother, and not have a high-flying six figure a year career.

It's OK to take your husband's surname, in fact the majority of women do. Only on MN do loads of women not.

Visible tattoos on women look grim, but they look OK on men.

Most women look better with make up on. When a man says he prefers you without it, he is saying he doesn't want you to look too good in case other men go after you.

People who don't return your text or call and tell you they never got it are lying 95% of the time. They did see it, they just couldn't be arsed to reply, or forgot.

It's OK to not cook from scratch all the time. In fact it's OK to not cook from scratch MOST of the time. Convenience food/ready meals/packet foods/tinned foods make life soooo much easier!

Toilet brushes are putrid.

There is nothing wrong with renting a home for life, and everyone should have a chance to rent social housing/affordable housing for life if they so wish. (Most people used to do it here pre-1980's and they do in other countries, but in the UK now, there seems to be this bizarre obsession with owning a property/having a mortgage!) It doesn't make you an underachiever of you rent a home, or a better person if you have a mortgage. Having a mortgage is a ball and chain around your neck for many people, and they fall into deep trouble if they lose their job and the house needs repairs and maintenance.

People who are never on time to meet you don't care about you that much, and think their time is more important than yours.

Not all child-free people are selfish, horned monsters, and not all mothers are selfless, glorious angels.

Prosecco is horrible, and I have no idea why people rave about it. I face palm when I see ANYTHING with 'prosecco o'clock,' or 'keep calm, drink prosecco' on it!

Agree with the posters saying 'accidental' pregnancies are rarely accidental.

IndiaLee · 23/04/2019 21:40

And Part 2...

It doesn't make you any more of a cool, wild, 'right-on' free spirit, if you always shag on the first date, (and have lots of casual, sexual partners,) than people who wait a number of months after meeting someone before shagging them.

Women who smoke during their pregnancy do not care about the welfare of their unborn baby.

Not everyone has got someone to look after their kids at the drop of a hat. Some people have very few people to help them in life. Some people have no-one...

Not every woman has the ability to just leave their husband/partner and move out somewhere new and start over.

Moreover, it's a myth that a woman can just leave her partner of 30 years when she is in her 50's, do a degree, retrain for a new career, land a fabulous £45K a year job, and hook a James Brolin lookalike who is on £255K a year. Most women in that situation will just end up in a minimum-pay, 'zero hours contract' job, and living in a private rented flat, alone.

Having your first baby in your early to mid 40s, is not normal, nor is it a good idea. Do you really want to be a parent to teenagers when you're on the cusp of being a pensioner? Seriously???

@LipstickHandbagCoffee

A cohabiting man who says he is 'waiting for the right moment' and prevaricating about setting a wedding date, doesn’t want to get married. He’s stalling you.

This ^ I have known several women whose man would not get married, because he 'didn't believe in marriage.' After 8-10 years they finished, and within 1-2 years he married someone else. He did believe in marriage, just not to the previous woman he was with for 8-10 years.

Most women do not have sex by the 3rd date. That's a myth perpetuated by men to make women drop their knickers for them!

It doesn't make a woman a better person if they are happy for their husband to be best friends with a single woman who doesn't know his wife, or want anything to do with her. It's fine to be pissed off and insecure about it.

National service needs to be brought back.

Breastmilk is definitely better for your baby than formula. Why on earth anyone thinks otherwise just baffles me.

However, there is absolutely no need to breastfeed a baby past one year old.

Most people who are fat/obese are this way because of over-eating and a lack of exercise. No other reason.

Botox and lip fillers look utterly ludicrous.

People who hate and bash the Royal family are not cool and radical. They just come across at rude arsehats.

You have failed as a parent if you slap/smack your child.

A married couple having separate finances is weird. You're a couple FGS. If they have kids and still have separate finances; that's just worrying.

All women should automatically be entitled to a c-section. Birth injuries are a taboo that women don't talk about much, yet they're very common.

School uniforms, school sports kits school books etc, are massive rip offs, that rinse parents out of tons of money every year. Someone is making a shit load of money form all this.

Some atheists are more rude and judgemental than any people of faith.

Just because someone has a different view to you, it does not mean it's 'nonsense.' Wink

mooncuplanding · 23/04/2019 21:46

I could not give two shits if you breast feed or bottle feed and find the whole argument tedious

There is such a thing as parent alienation and its usually mothers doing it

KissingInTheRain · 23/04/2019 21:47

Okey dokey India. I’ve scribbled some notes.

VoteJadot · 23/04/2019 21:48

Real fur is sustainable, fake fur is made of plastic. Fake fur bobbles for cheap acrylic hats sold for a fiver down the market will have been made in a sweatshop by slave labour and shipped halfway round the world. They are not a more ethical clothing choice than a bit of fur on a hood from a coyote trapped for pest control.

Whisky2014 · 23/04/2019 21:52

@VoteJadot
Actually, some things sold as "faux fur" has been revealed to be made of real fur. Just renamed so people will buy it. Real fur is cheaper! Anyhoo, i hate anything fur and if i see any item of clothing with animal print, but especially leopard print, I immediately think "tacky".

LipstickHandbagCoffee · 23/04/2019 21:52

If you’re a housewife you’re abdicating your responsibilities to working women
You leave it to teachers, other working women to model and discuss employment
All that mn housewives model is how to bag a man who’s top of his game (aren’t they all)
Nothing about employment career,independent attainment
Everything about keeping on top of the house and a man who “needs” ft housewife

Whisky2014 · 23/04/2019 21:55

I have no respect for your degree if it’s not from Oxbridge thats just weird! And stupid.

KissingInTheRain · 23/04/2019 21:58

I do have some sympathy for that generally unpopular view Vote. If we had humane fur farms why would real fur be worse than eating free range chickens?

ATM I don’t think the two are ethically comparable. But they could be.

It is completely untrue that fur has to be ripped from a live animal.

Herland · 23/04/2019 21:59

If you are a working mother you are abdicating your responsibilities onto other working women - many who will be earning a lot less than you and are forced into caring for other people's children rather than their own.

Nursery teachers and staff should be paid a hell of a lot more and parents who use their services should stuck it up and pay for it.

HarryElephante · 23/04/2019 21:59

I have no respect for your degree if it’s not from Oxbridge

I'm the exact opposite!

SleepingStandingUp · 23/04/2019 22:00

If you’re a housewife you’re abdicating your responsibilities to working women. You leave it to teachers, other working women to model and discuss employment
or their dad?? Also just because i don't work at the moment doesn't mean i have never worked and thus am unable to discuss it or comprehend anyone else working...

Herland · 23/04/2019 22:01

I don't actually believe the first part of my last post but it's as ridiculous as what @lipstick said.

LipstickHandbagCoffee · 23/04/2019 22:05

Recalling & Talking about some hither past when you did work means you rely on currently working women to talk to your kids about what it’s like just now to be a working woman
Some oh in my day, doesn’t cut it
It’s left to someone else to be the role model or given an accurate account

LipstickHandbagCoffee · 23/04/2019 22:08

My profession is all graduate no one talks about where they got their degree
Other than to reminisce about the location not brag about the uni

Whisky2014 · 23/04/2019 22:08

It is completely untrue that fur has to be ripped from a live animal
But unfortunately it is ripped from a live animal. Do some research.

Whisky2014 · 23/04/2019 22:10

Oh got another!
Its OK to call in sick if you just want a day to yourself.

ScrewyMcScrewup · 23/04/2019 22:10

Fur is not made from animals trapped for past control. They are farmed and killed solely for their fur.

Cattenberg · 23/04/2019 22:12

The chemicals used to tan leather and skins really aren’t good for the environment.

I’m baffled by the idea that being a SAHM to young children. I have a one-year-old and my time in the office is a doss compared with trying to stop a toddler killing herself in 101 different ways. Not much housework gets done until she goes to bed.

Cattenberg · 23/04/2019 22:13

is easy
