For things that are agreed as gospel on MN

I'll start: I like dressing my kids in matching outfits and I really enjoy a Butlins holiday

I also don't think Nevaeh is that bad

OP posts:

And most SAHMs who complain about being one, would take a bullet before letting the father be the SAHP.

fikel · 22/04/2019 21:08

Adele sounds like a strangled cat

NettleGreen · 22/04/2019 21:08

Some posters seem to be confusing ‘unpopular’ with ‘repellent’.

Yabbers · 22/04/2019 21:08

That half the things people think are unpopular opinions on mumsnet aren’t actually unpopular at all and people clearly aren’t reading the same mumsnet as me.

daisypond · 22/04/2019 21:09

Children and teenagers do not need their own bedroom - it’s ok to share.

MsMamaNature · 22/04/2019 21:09

I couldn't care less about Brexit (one way or the other) and I say that as someone who lives in NI.

You don't "train" a baby - you train a dog. Leaving a baby to cry itself to sleep is cruel.

I iron our clothes - I didn't have children for them to leave the house each morning looking like a character from Annie.

I don't like second hand stuff.

I didn't have children to treat them as my personal maids - they can cook, use the washing machine, etc but they aren't made to do it on a regular basis. They will not be kicked out of the house when they turn 18.

I don't believe all the people on here who supposedly have children at Oxford and Cambridge - the numbers just seem slightly out of proportion. Life will not grind to a halt if your child dares to set foot inside a different university.

I don't think IVF should ever be funded by the NHS - cancer treatment is a medical need, a baby is not. You can't always get what you want.

People who wash their towels weekly or less are disgusting - you are not just drying a clean body after a shower, you are also removing dead skin cells - where do you think they go?

Blended families happen too quickly and that's why the majority of them are horrendous - because the adults put themselves first, not the kids, regardless of whether they say otherwise.

If you have children you are not the centre of the universe anymore - your child is/should be and it won't make them into a brat either.

Stockpiling food for Brexit is, quite frankly, the early signs of mental illness. We will survive without luxury XYZ from France.

You should be thankful that people are interested enough in you that they want to visit you when you have a baby instead of acting like an anti-social nut job. Life will not come to a grinding halt if you have to move from the sofa.

Your MIL is not always the problem - you are. She can't be that awful - she brought up your husband/partner.

HateIsNotGood · 22/04/2019 21:09

I find JRM quite fascinating - I actually thought he was a comic personifying an archetype before I realized he was an actual real person.

I agree with the vast majority of posts and love the thread because everyone's getting into the swing of it - disagreements with any unpopular opinion go elsewhere.

JacquesHammer · 22/04/2019 21:10

Its perfectly possible to have good yet casual sex.

Macaroni46 · 22/04/2019 21:11

Fucking delightful - yes I agree with what you're saying.
Sick of hearing how hard it is to be a SAHP. Working is bloody hard, stressful and tiring.

Thurmanmurman · 22/04/2019 21:11

I like feature walls!
Me and DH occasionally have massive rows and say horrible things to each other but we do not have a toxic/abusive relationship.

Herland · 22/04/2019 21:11

Women who say they are not feminists are arseholes. Women who say there is no need for feminism are stupid arseholes.

Wonnacott35 · 22/04/2019 21:12

Your kids aren't suddenly grown up at 18 and ready to be let go on their own without your help just because some people on here left home at 12.

NaturalBornWoman · 22/04/2019 21:12

Filling up a thread with place marks is really irritating, especially if you use an in joke.

Sleep training is good for all concerned.

The pill is highly effective when used correctly and the failure rate is far lower that one might think from reading MN.

It's better to delay having children until you know your potential partner extremely well, have formed a strong relationship in which you can communicate effectively, and have the practicalities in place to be able to support and house them.

Wearing PJs to the supermarket or to eat breakfast in a hotel restaurant is grubby and lazy. End of.

And men not wearing a shirt in the supermarket should be physically ejected from said store and sent off for at least 6 months hard labour in Siberia. And if they have tattoos, it's a year.

hidinginthetoiletagain · 22/04/2019 21:13

Most of these opinions seemed to held by people who are unable to understand that just because they have experienced something a particular way, it doesn't mean that EVERYBODY else will have the EXACT same experience...

Oops sorry double post - some weird message keeps coming up about the Apache Server being down.

Wonnacott35 · 22/04/2019 21:15

I like Meghan Markle and think PW is the cause of the alleged rift

hidinginthetoiletagain · 22/04/2019 21:17

(though I might just be feeling marked because:
A) I'm still trying to toilet train my 3 year old
B) I didn't breast feed
C) I didn't give birth to my children
D) I am overweight
E) I have visible tattoos
F) I don't like seafood and I actually used to live in Cornwall!!

CalmdownJanet · 22/04/2019 21:17

I have never ever been to a child's party that had fruit/carrot sticks/hummus or cucumber - it's sweets, chocolate, cocktail sausages, rice crispie buns and crap, sometimes you might get a goujon instead of a nugget, anything else only happens on mn

Wineloffa · 22/04/2019 21:18

Afternoon tea is shit. Sandwiches and cakes do not go with prosecco or champagne. For the price of it, I’d much rather have a nice 3 course lunch.

hidinginthetoiletagain · 22/04/2019 21:18

*narked

LipstickHandbagCoffee · 22/04/2019 21:18

Breast is not best. Fed is best
Despite all the handwringing, mode of feeding really isn’t that important
Breast feeding is a time limited preoccupation for a vociferous minority Your kid will go to school,it’ll never be discussed again.doesnt matter

TooBusyHavingFun · 22/04/2019 21:19

We should be allowed to hunt the hunters.

If unemployed you should have to be on a long acting contraception to be able to claim benefits (obviously not quite able to do this with the men quite yet).

Disaffected youths should have to be signed up for the military for 1 or 2 years.

People with their own companies should not be allowed to get away with paying themselves £12k pa and then the rest paid as dividends so they pay no national insurance.

People should never be allowed to kill an animal to eat in the 1st world.

ICantEvenThinkStraight · 22/04/2019 21:19

People who have never experienced mental health issues have no idea what it's like no matter how much they think they do.
