For things that are agreed as gospel on MN

I'll start: I like dressing my kids in matching outfits and I really enjoy a Butlins holiday

I also don't think Nevaeh is that bad

OP posts:
TheFairyCaravan · 22/04/2019 20:56

Children don't need to graze on food all day. They aren't Guinea pigs.

Cereal is not the work of the devil.

It's perfectly possible to potty train at 2

JacquesHammer · 22/04/2019 20:56

Wearing black to a wedding is perfectly acceptable

Ikeameatballs · 22/04/2019 20:56

Most women look better with make-up. Most men probably would too.

Eat less and move more if you are overweight and unhappy about it. Whilst the causes of obesity may be complex this will help and is likely to make you feel better.

If your child is identified as obese in the national weighing and measuring programme then it is far more likely that they are overweight than that they are highly muscular.

A week out of primary school won’t spoil your child’s life chances and if that’s the only way you can afford a family holiday that you’d enjoy then go for it. Even at secondary, except exam times, it’s not the end of the world.

JustHereForThePooStories · 22/04/2019 20:56

England is pretty shit compared to most European countries.

It’s ok to make a lot of money and spend it on things like handbags and fancy cars. Not everyone wants an old banger.

SchrodingersBrexit · 22/04/2019 20:58

Sometimes our Partners have bad days, that doesn't make them toxic, self serving, misogynistic arsheholes etc etc. We don't need to LTB immediately.

wonthedouble · 22/04/2019 20:59

No matter what people say, you'll never love someone else's child as much as or in the same way you do your own.
If you're male you're a "he" and that's what I'll call you, regardless of any demands to the contrary.
The insistence that a cheated upon wife needs an STI test as if the OW is the whore of Babylon is cuntish and fuelled by spite, and righteous indignation rather than rationality.
You can tell the type of school by the number of Hugos or Tylers in it.

Pasithea · 22/04/2019 20:59

These may be unpopular opinions but some are very firmly mine.

Whisky2014 · 22/04/2019 20:59

AIBU is used far too often for completely silly things. Eg: AIBU to tell you to watch x,y,z awesome tv show?

Just start a thread in chat and say "this tv show is awesome, have a watch"

MrsExpo · 22/04/2019 20:59

It’s perfectly ok for your NDNs to speak/eat/smoke in their own garden.
Dogs are fun and can be nice things to have around.
Kids (especially other people’s kids) can be just plain annoying.
Anyone with a tattoo of any kind has made a serious error of judgement.

FuckingDelightful · 22/04/2019 20:59

I'm not going to lose sleep because my child drinks fizzy pop occasionally.

Thatsnotmyotter · 22/04/2019 20:59

It's perfectly possible to potty train at 2 Yes!! My brother and I were both potty trained at around 18 months and have suffered no emotional scars. I’m getting DS started as soon as seems sensible.

Catchingbentcoppers · 22/04/2019 21:00

Autism does not equal naughty. It's also not an excuse for all poor behaviour.

Threads about P & C spaces are utterly boring.

Some people are really not suited to working outside the home.

Sparklingbrook · 22/04/2019 21:00

It is possible to toilet train without the use of a potty. Straight to the loo. Sitting on a potty in the living room watching TV is not teaching them to use the toilet.

Troels · 22/04/2019 21:01

I own a toilet brush in each bathroom I like them I use them with bleach. My house smells clean that way.
Family should visit after a baby is born, you don't need weeks to recover from birth with your Dh and own mother waiting on you hand and foot. Babies are as much a part of the husbands family as they are the mothers family.

NannyPear · 22/04/2019 21:01

The vast majority of woman can physically exclusively breastfeed, they just make mistakes along the way so it doesn't work out.

Obese women should lose weight before actively trying to get pregnant.

It's ok, and normal, for working parents to not realise or investigate the cost of childcare before having kids.

WitsEnding · 22/04/2019 21:01

Grandparents are not obligated to be a source of free labour or money. They raised you, job done. Now you raise your own children.

FuckingDelightful · 22/04/2019 21:02

A lot of people make out being a SAHP is a lot harder than it actually is.

You'd think they were performing brain surgery in a poorly lit cloakroom.

AlexaAmbidextra · 22/04/2019 21:02

It isn’t compulsory to eat shellfish while visiting Cornwall.

Step mothers are not all evil, interfering bitches.

Birth mothers are not all sacred cows who can do no wrong.

The80sweregreat · 22/04/2019 21:03

I agree with a lot of these , but if people want dogs please pick up after them and try to appreciate that not everyone is a dog lover.
I'd never be horrible or nasty to any animal but I'm just not keen on pets and allergic to cats.

JustHereForThePooStories · 22/04/2019 21:05

Teachers don’t have the hardest job in the world and many of them moan a lot.

Ragwort · 22/04/2019 21:05

Sleep training is not cruel, there is nothing wrong with encouraging your baby to learn to self settle.

Blended families rarely work.

No one has the ‘right’ to have a child.

Marriage is hard work (& with the exception of violent/abusive behaviour) children are better off living with both parents.

No one has a ‘right’ to a sex life.

Many people are obsessed with Facebook, Instagram, Twitter etc but lack social skills in real life, & then complain ‘they can’t make friends’ Hmm.

There are just as many difficult DILs around as there are difficult MILs.

leccybill · 22/04/2019 21:05

All tattoos look cheap and make you look rough.
Breastfeeding is gross.
Children at primary school don't need phones.

NameChangeSameRage · 22/04/2019 21:07

I agree with the tattoo views. It's not something I would ever say out loud, because Im not a twat and realise people a) think differently and b) can do what they want with their own skin, but just why? I've never seen one that looks good. Especially, and this is the really unpopular opinion- women with tattoos. I think they look awful.

LuckyLou7 · 22/04/2019 21:08

Oh dear...

Macaroni46 · 22/04/2019 21:08

Looking after young children is not that hard and it is possible and imo only fair for the SAHP to do most of the housework during the week
