... not only that, he’s threatening treason charges on those who investigated him.

He's certainly a test for the 'stiff upper.'

Whosorrynow · 29/05/2019 10:48

I think people revere him because they're mesmerised by the spectacle of someone who gets away with doing exactly what they want, because part of them would love to be someone who can just do whatever he likes and no one will stop you

A slightly side note, on travelling with Trump on Air Force 1.

edition.cnn.com/2019/05/24/politics/donald-trump-air-force-one-travel-foreign-trips/index.html

"The White House, meanwhile, hasn't announced whether Trump will attend this year's G7, held in coastal France. He wavered on participating in last year's hosted by Canada."

Because he feels ganged up on.

Whosorrynow · 29/05/2019 12:36

But surely a very stable genius would just take all that in his stride?

lionheart · 29/05/2019 15:08

In an hour or so.

WASHINGTON (AP) — 'Special counsel Robert Mueller is set to make his first public statement on the Russia investigation Wednesday, the Justice Department said.

Mueller will speak at the Justice Department at 11 a.m. and won’t take any questions.

It was not clear what he intended to say, but the statement comes amid demands for Mueller to testify on Capitol Hill about his findings and tension with Attorney General William Barr over the handling of his report.

Mueller’s report into Russia meddling in the 2016 election did not find that Russia and the Trump campaign coordinated to sway the presidential election. It also did not reach a conclusion on whether Trump had obstructed justice, with Mueller saying he did not think it would be fair to publicly accuse the president of a crime if he could not charge him. A Justice Department legal opinion says sitting presidents cannot be indicted.'

Lweji · 29/05/2019 15:14

Maybe he's going to personally charge the President, like it has been done in the UK with Boris. Wink

Lweji · 29/05/2019 16:11

No accusation because it's not possible to charge. Definitely not a "not guilty".

And several indictments. Sustained campaign to influence the election.

All is said.
But few will listen.

lionheart · 29/05/2019 16:12

Mueller resigns.

lionheart · 29/05/2019 16:13

"There were multiple, systematic efforts to interfere in our election. And that allegation deserves the attention of every American."

lionheart · 29/05/2019 16:15

"Any testimony from this Office would not go beyond our report ... We chose those words carefully and the work speaks for itself. And the report is my testimony."

lionheart · 29/05/2019 16:16

“Charging the president with a crime is not an option we could consider.”

Lweji · 29/05/2019 16:21

He resigns because his work is done with the DoJ.
Surely it wouldn't require a resignation.

lionheart · 29/05/2019 16:39

If he is no longer DoJ he can testify as a private citizen ...

lionheart · 29/05/2019 16:43

Nadler: "The Special Counsel has clearly demonstrated that Pres. Trump is lying about the Special Counsel's findings, lying about the testimony of key witnesses in the Special Counsel's report, & is lying in saying that the Special Counsel found no obstruction and no collusion."

"Given that Special Counsel Mueller was unable to pursue criminal charges against the President, it falls to Congress to respond to the crimes, lies and other wrongdoing of President Trump--and we will do so."

'Nothing changes from the Mueller Report. There was insufficient evidence and therefore, in our Country, a person is innocent. The case is closed! Thank you.'

I'm surprised he isn't tweeting about this.

BelindasGleeTeam · 29/05/2019 17:32

Hahaha Trump is screwed.

Mueller basically said "The guy is guilty as sin. I had my hands tied. You need to sort this, Congress"

The takeaway is this: if trump were no president, he'd have been charged with multiple felonies. And potentially will be once he's out of office.

Mr Burns grin..... excellent.....

Lweji · 29/05/2019 17:36

The thing is the Orange One has already put his spin on what Mueller said.
His minions will take him at his word instead of interpreting Mueller's speech (too hard).

I wonder what Fox will make of it.

MerdedeBrexit · 29/05/2019 17:51

Fox is not as pro-Trump as we might have imagined.
"Robert Mueller, in his only public remarks on the Russia investigation since being appointed special counsel, said his team did not have the “option” to charge President Trump with a crime while indicating he does not plan to testify before Congress.

Mueller, speaking from the Justice Department Wednesday morning, announced the closing of his office and detailed the findings of the Russia investigation, underscoring that there “was not sufficient evidence to charge a conspiracy” with regard to whether members of the Trump campaign coordinated with the Russian government during the 2016 presidential election.

MUELLER REPORT SHOWS PROBE DID NOT FIND COLLUSION EVIDENCE, REVEALS TRUMP EFFORTS TO SIDELINE KEY PLAYERS

But Mueller did not mince words on his inquiry into whether the president obstructed justice.
“If we had had confidence that the president clearly did not commit a crime, we would have said that,” Mueller said. “We did not determine whether the president did commit a crime.”

Mueller explained longstanding Justice Department policy, which states that a sitting president cannot be charged with a crime.

“Charging the president with a crime was not an option we could consider,” Mueller explained, adding that “it would be unfair to accuse someone of a crime when there could be no court resolution of the charge.”

"The Constitution requires a process other than the criminal justice system to formally accuse the president of wrongdoing," Mueller said Wednesday, echoing his report which states that Congress "may apply obstruction laws to the President's corrupt exercise of the powers of office accords with our constitutional system of checks and balances and the principle that no person is above the law."
“We concluded that we would not reach a determination one way or the other about whether the president committed a crime,” Mueller added. “That is the office’s final position.”

Minutes after he finished delivering his remarks, House Judiciary Committee Chairman Jerrold Nadler, D-N.Y., issued a statement vowing that Congress would probe allegations of obstruction against the president.

“Given that Special Counsel Robert Mueller was unable to pursue criminal charges against the President, it falls to Congress to respond to the crimes, lies and other wrongdoing of President Trump—and we will do so,” Nadler said in a statement. “No one, not even the President of the United States, is above the law.”
