What do you call the thing you use to change TV channels?

I've just watched Tenable and the thing I thought it was called didn't make the top ten of names.

I'm honestly, genuinely shocked. I thought it was really common and would be the most obvious answer.

Remote control or remote. Ex-wife called it "the buttons". I'll occasionally call it "the thing" (because my memory doesn't work).

I've heard doofer, dobber, zapper, wotsit and whatchamacallit. Never heard pinger.

We call it the Hoofer Doofer.

The fatty or the fat controller.

We started this in about 86 while watching Thomas the Tank engine.

It's the remote here, the pinger is the timer on the oven when it bleeps.

I always called it the remote control growing up but my DC have always called it ‘the controller’ so that’s stuck!

I call it the changer as that's what My family call it. My DH still pretends he has no idea what I mean even though we've been together for 13 years.

Doofer here too. It's a word that covers lots of objects you can't remember the name of.
