To ask what's your 'go too' takeaway from the chipper?

Following on from the thread where the poster asked if she should get a takeaway from the chipper in a Friday, what's your usual go too takeaway?

Either battered sausage or a quarter pounder with cheese for me, sometimes with a portion of onion rings, except for Supermacs (Irish chipper) when it'll always be a chicken fillet sandwich.

ALWAYS a garlic and cheese chip, regardless of what chipper I go to. I think that might be just an Irish thing though? Not quite sure.

DD tried the Bisto Curry Sauce gravy granules trying to recreate the flavour sensation at home. Big nope - they went in the bin!

theanxiousmammy · 13/04/2019 14:48

This post is partly making me drool and partly reminding me why I put on so much weight when I lived in Dublin. I'd love a Supermacs right now!

Celebelly · 13/04/2019 14:49

@GimmeBread Not among my friends but who knows! A chipper tea!

GimmeBread · 13/04/2019 14:49

Battered smoked sausage for me. I can't eat a whole portion of chippy chips so it's a single plus chips stolen from someone else.

Ketchup on the side. Or sometimes brown sauce if I'm feeling brave!

NicksWife08 · 13/04/2019 14:49

Cod, chips and mushy peas. The chippie here gives a wedge of lemon and homemade tartare sauce with their fish. It's delicious!
Salt and vinegar on the chips too.
I'll have it with a shandy to drink.
DC's have kids fish and chips.

Turquoisetamborine · 13/04/2019 14:50

@Haworthia we would call a saveloy a smokey. Maybe that’s where the confusion arose. Well in the North East anyway.

Crappygilmore · 13/04/2019 14:50

Mushy pea fritter small chips and salt n vinegar.

heymammy · 13/04/2019 14:50

A battered sausage supper, every time!

GimmeBread · 13/04/2019 14:51

Can you still get batter bits by the bag? Sprinkled with salt (no vinegar). Yum! Salty crunchiness 😀

ghostyslovesheets · 13/04/2019 14:54

savoury cake, chips and gravy

scattercushion17 · 13/04/2019 14:55

Deep fried half pizza, chips and salt n sauce. I'll have to step away from this thread as it will make me hungry!

ghostyslovesheets · 13/04/2019 14:56

chippy by us also does battered black pudding and battered sprouts (at Christmas)

AintNobodyHereButUsReindeer · 13/04/2019 14:57

Spam fritter and chips with a bread bun. Sometimes gravy too if I'm in the right mood.

Another one who has never heard it called the 'chipper', we call it the chip shop. Although BIL for some inexplicable reason calls it the chip hole Confused

DonnaDarko · 13/04/2019 14:57

Large cod and chips, usually shared between me, DP and DS. that's how adventurous we are lol

Celebelly · 13/04/2019 14:58

I'm near Aberdeen and it's definitely a chipper here. It's even called that in the local newspapers and we have several fish and chip places called 'the XXX Chipper'. I never heard it called that when I lived in Glasgow though.

vampirethriller · 13/04/2019 15:00

Haddock chips and peas, tomato ketchup and vinegar.

HogMother · 13/04/2019 15:01

Chipper is a mood where I’m from. Feeling chippper.
Chippy tea is sausage and chips

BuzzPeakWankBobbly · 13/04/2019 15:02

For one: Battered sausage and chips. Lots of salt and vinegar (or "non brewed condiment" as my place has!)

For two: Large doner and chips.
(Pro tip: cut the doner in half in the box it comes in, then just slide each half straight onto plate)

For two if feeling particularly ravenous: Large doner, battered sausage and chips.

Atalune · 13/04/2019 15:04

When I was a kid-

Chip roll with loads of vinegar and brown sauce. Half a can of Pepsi.

Teen-
Half pizza supper.

Adult
Fish supper with mushy peas. Partial to a potato fritter if anywhere ever has them.

KillerSpider · 13/04/2019 15:05

Superman’s is the best ever. Many a night out ended in the Eyre Sq Supermacs.
They were voted in the top ten independent fast food chains in the world.

PepsiPeach · 13/04/2019 15:10

The Chippy or just Chip Shop here in the west mids. I always have Cod or Haddock, chips with vinegar and curry sauce. And a pickled egg. Maybe two! I loved picked eggs!
When I was a kid I would always have a potato scallop to walk home with.

IHaveBrilloHair · 13/04/2019 15:12

I'm also rather partial to a pizza crunch supper, and I like the pickled onions.

Megan2018 · 13/04/2019 15:15

Large haddock and medium chips or jumbo sausage (plain) and medium chips if feeling poor.
But we live 8 miles from a chip shop so not that often! We lament the chip van that used to come to the village.

Fried halloumi? In a chippy? I'm jealous!

I have a pineapple fritter and a cone of chips or a scallop. If there are no fritters then either a mini fish and chips or chicken and mushroom pie and chips.

I haven't been to the chippy at all this year, really fancy it now!
