To ask what's your 'go too' takeaway from the chipper?

Following on from the thread where the poster asked if she should get a takeaway from the chipper in a Friday, what's your usual go too takeaway?

Either battered sausage or a quarter pounder with cheese for me, sometimes with a portion of onion rings, except for Supermacs (Irish chipper) when it'll always be a chicken fillet sandwich.

ALWAYS a garlic and cheese chip, regardless of what chipper I go to. I think that might be just an Irish thing though? Not quite sure.

Fish, chips, mushy peas and curry sauce, I share everything bar the fish, we get huge portions of chips at our chippy x

flameycakes · 13/04/2019 18:23

I miss living in Wales, local chippy did gorgeous belly pork x

Navy123 · 13/04/2019 18:23

Medium haddock
Scampi
Large chips

Then we split it between us. Ketchup for the scampi, mayo for the chips and a mixture for the fish. Utter bliss.

BillyAndTheSillies · 13/04/2019 18:26

Savaloy, large chips and a wally.

Lots of white vinegar and a Dr Pepper.

A deep fried pizza, or pizza crunch if you’re posh, is a frozen pizza, dipped in batter and deep fried. It’s a staple in Scottish chippys along with haggis and white pudding. You also only get cod in a posh chippy round here, it’s usually haddock.

I have a small fish supper, 2 pickled onions and a can of juice. Tried ordering that down south and no one understood what I wanted. The can of juice particularly upset them, they thought I meant a can of fresh orange, which they obviously didn’t have, when what I meant was a Coke.

SetPhasersTaeMalkie · 13/04/2019 18:34

Where I am, a deep fried pizza is just exactly that. Or you can have a pizza crunch which is a pizza or half pizza dipped in batter then deep fried. Or a deep fried pizza crunch supper which is with chips.

SetPhasersTaeMalkie · 13/04/2019 18:35

Ooh cross post.

Aragog · 13/04/2019 18:38

Me: chip butty and curry sauce or mushy peas.
DH: normally fish, chips and mushy peas; sometimes unbuttered sausage and chips
DD: pie, normally chicken; handful of chips from us as she's not keen on them

Chippy here, or chip shop - in Sheffield.

cocodash · 13/04/2019 18:39

This thread is killing me.

I loveeeee a chippy.

But currently 29 weeks pregnant and what sets off the worlds worst heartburn.... Yip. You guessed it.

A chippy.

Fml.

Lightly battered cod bites (I dont mean that to sound like an M&S advert, I just don't like lots of batter so ask them to do it this way so it's thin and crispy) and chips.
Cod bites will be dipped in curry sauce and the chips will be swimming in gravy.

Aragog · 13/04/2019 18:41

Slices of potato, fish in the middle, cooked in batter

That's what fishcakes are like here in Sheffield.
When I grew up, in Doncaster - not that far away from Sheffield either - a fishcake was mashed potato and fish mixed together, with breadcrumbs.

King rib supper with a pickle, salt vinegar and brown sauce or a pizza crunch with chips, pickle, salt vinegar and brown sauce. We call it a chippy.

Celebelly · 13/04/2019 18:48

@ChristinaMarlowe He'd genuinely never heard of it (and he's no stranger to fish and chips!) until he moved up here. Next time I'm down I'll try ordering one and see what happens!

NannyR · 13/04/2019 18:53

A fish, a scallop and some scraps. Not really keen on chip shop chips.

iklboo · 13/04/2019 18:55

Oooh a chip barm with loads of vinegar and a little salt, a scallop on the side with the same.

(Not the shellfish - a thick slice of potato, battered and deep fried).

Katinkka · 13/04/2019 19:01

Am I the only one who calls it the fish shop? 😩

SrSteveOskowski · 13/04/2019 19:04

Can someone explain a wally to me? I'm lost. Here a wally is someone who's a bit of an eejit.

OP posts:
SrSteveOskowski · 13/04/2019 19:04

I might need to explain eejit now Grin

If I am at the in laws I have steak and kidney pudding with chips and gravy. In London I have not found a chippy that does pudding or gravy so have curry roll and chips

ghostyslovesheets · 13/04/2019 19:09

When I grew up, in Doncaster - not that far away from Sheffield either - a fishcake was mashed potato and fish mixed together, with breadcrumbs

that's a savoury cake on Merseyside - except it's spuds, white fish and chives mashed up and fried in batter!

RoryGillmoresEvilTwin · 13/04/2019 19:10

2 battered sausages, chips and gravy. Maybe a pickled egg on the side. Yum!

iklboo · 13/04/2019 19:10

Pudding, chips & gravy is the must have tea on the night we arrive home from holidays.

Thesearmsofmine · 13/04/2019 19:11

Battered sausage, chips and scraps.

CherryBlossom23 · 13/04/2019 19:12

Am I the only one that prefers Supermacs chips to (most) chipper chips? Blush. A lot of them are way too greasy for me. God I'd love a Supermacs now.

SilverySurfer · 13/04/2019 19:13

Rock eel, chips, mushy peas, roll and butter and occasionally pineapple fritters, yum.
