To ask what Leavers are still hoping for from Brexit

Bearbehind · 13/04/2019 12:02

So we’ve failed twice to actually leave the EU on the dates specified which has hopefully proved that we will never leave without a deal.

Therefore the only option is to leave with a worse deal, or just give the whole thing up as a bad idea.

What do Leavers think can be salvaged from this epic mess?

This type of thread has been done so many times already now. If you are that desperate to know why don’t you look up all the other dozens and dozens of threads which cover the exact same topic OP??

Hiddenaspie1973 · 13/04/2019 20:22

Just want to leave.

Bearbehind · 13/04/2019 20:25

chlo, I’ve been on most of those threads and still have absolutely no idea what people are trying to achieve by saying ‘I just want to leave’ as hidden has so perfectly demonstrated

OP posts:
ghostyslovesheets · 13/04/2019 20:27

maybe because the OP like many of us would like some answers ?

They don't need to look them up this OP starts most of them.

ghostyslovesheets · 13/04/2019 20:29

I dont know a single person that thinks staying in the eu is a good idea

Just want to leave

No deal

aren't really answers - it's baffling

Bearbehind · 13/04/2019 20:31

It really is baffling ghosty

I genuinely don’t understand the continued lack of critical thinking here.

WTF are people hoping to achieve?

We really are a laughing stock.

And we really have failed.

We elected the government.

We ‘took back control’ and gave it to those fuckwits.

Which part of that has been a success?

OP posts:
Fishcakey · 13/04/2019 20:40

I just want to bloody leave! That's all!

Bearbehind · 13/04/2019 20:41

fishcakey why?

Citytwin · 13/04/2019 20:44

I don’t understand how anyone can think their life will be in any way better after we leave.

BercowsSilkTie · 13/04/2019 20:56

I clicked on this hoping to finally see some answers. Silly me.

lucyinthefry · 13/04/2019 21:06

I want the UK to leave the EU. I think we will be happier and more prosperous if we are fully independent and in full control of all our affairs ... just like all the other successful countries in the world that are outside the EU.

I think the EU makes poor decisions and I don't like the direction that Merkel and Macron are going in.

I respect the fact that you would prefer to remain in the EU, OP. I don't scorn you for it. We all need to compromise I think.

Singay · 13/04/2019 21:08

Can we take a hiatus of 6 months from Brexit.

Bearbehind · 13/04/2019 21:10

lucy I understand your aspirations but the reality is we will never be ‘fully independent’.

If that was ever going to even be attempted we’d have left with no deal on the 2 occasions it was possible.

Which goes back to the title of this thread - what do you hope for, based on the reality of what is possible?

Newmumma83 · 13/04/2019 21:17

I was a remain person, but that’s because I just got married , brought my first house & now just had a baby .... the economical instability could be distarous for me at such a delicate part of my life.

My parents and grandparents voted leave .... believe that we will be better off ... I agree potentially ( though feeling less optimistic with how negotiations are going g ) this could be the case In 10-20 years ... but we have to weather those years with no understanding if it will be better or just ok ... because no one knows.

When the referendum happened there was so much said on both sides and promises which in many cases neither side was able to deliver.

Politicians make a lot of promises that don’t seem to happen , it could be things take longer than we can anticipate.

I want politicians to make promises they can keep ... like when we have targets agreed with our bosses half their income or at least a reasonable portion needs to be bonus based on hitting objectives.. because maybe the. They will get elected for what they CAN achieve rather than get away with half truths and myths

I am sleep deprived and don’t want a massive debate it’s my emotional observation and I am just popping it out there.

I hope leaving is all the wonderful things they said and i hope that I have a job and a house and food for my child. But I am so very worried

Windowsareforcheaters · 13/04/2019 21:25

It's so fucking depressing.

3 years of failure and broken promises, the obvious inability to leave in an organised way, jobs being lost and all we get is "I want to leave because I want to leave".

All this mess, all this money, all this waste of time money and resources, you are costing the country a fortune in goodwill and respect and all you can say is "I want to leave cos I want it".

MrsTerryPratchett · 13/04/2019 21:44

just like all the other successful countries in the world that are outside the EU.

Which highly successful countries aren't in a trading bloc?

lucyinthefry · 13/04/2019 22:03

what do you hope for, based on the reality of what is possible?

I hope to live in a country where people feel that their concerns are listened to. Where our government focuses on tackling our domestic problems and lets businesses trade with other businesses all over the world as they wish. I hope that the Eurozone and the whole EU prospers too, because they are our friends and neighbours.

I don't believe that we will suffer economically from leaving the EU. I am confident that we will prosper. I don't expect you to agree with that, but there it is.

Like de Gaulle, I don't think we are a good fit with the EU. We cramp each others style.

lucyinthefry · 13/04/2019 22:07

Which highly successful countries aren't in a trading bloc?

There are lots of possibilities when we do Brexit.

For example:

www.theguardian.com/politics/2018/oct/08/uk-welcome-to-join-pacific-trade-pact-after-brexit-says-japanese-pm

lucyinthefry · 13/04/2019 22:08

That's why we should not stay in the Customs Union.

lljkk · 13/04/2019 22:22

I hope to live in a country where people feel that their concerns are listened to.

That's funny. As a Remainer I feel like I'm profoundly unlistened to right now. May & BoJo made it clear that I'm not one of The People, of course.

I hear that many people voted Leave coz they felt unlistened to.
Now we all feel unlistened to. Well ain't that an achievement of sorts. :(
