To ask what Leavers are still hoping for from Brexit

So we’ve failed twice to actually leave the EU on the dates specified which has hopefully proved that we will never leave without a deal.

Therefore the only option is to leave with a worse deal, or just give the whole thing up as a bad idea.

What do Leavers think can be salvaged from this epic mess?

We always had the option to apply a brake on immigration - please tell me this is not news to you?

Bear because whilst I have seen the EU as a very positive thing for many years, as well as seeing it's negatives, I do not now think that the EU is something that the UK should be part of. It is too big, it tries to be too many things for too many people, and I don't think that allows all those millions of people to be themselves.

So I voted to Leave. I think WA is the best way of Leaving - it gives so many protections to those that made their life's decisions on the UK belonging to the EU that it's the fairest way of doing it.

It creates a framework within which people and businesses in the UK and EU can plan what to do - without causing unnecessary hardship.

It would really help re-instate 'certainty' where all we have now is 'uncertainty' - which is currently very damaging to all involved.

I thought we only had control over non-EU immigration.

Bearbehind · 14/04/2019 20:26

So we’re back to opinions based on nothing more than feelings.

Just clarifying

Really? You could just check the Treaties for yourself.

Or do you have some kind of agenda here?

Clavinova · 14/04/2019 20:29

I thought we only had control over non-EU immigration

Fucking hell

Indeed - surprise me.

Jolonglegs · 14/04/2019 20:29

I don't know any Leavers, so I'm genuinely interested in how they propose to handle the Irish border issue without the WA 'Backstop'. Please tell me.

Bearbehind · 14/04/2019 20:30

continiuty I think it’s clear clavinova has never researched anything Brexit related and has only ever referred to the Daily Mail for information.

The new Tory line up to lead are all ok with no deal

Who are the new Tory line up? Seriously, who are you certain will succeed T-May & truly embrace no Deal?

Hammond, Hunt & Gove: support the WA & said No Deal must be avoided.
Bojo: Never has a plan but is just about clever enough to avoid this becoming too obvious, he'll dodge leadership right now
JRM: Too irritating to be leader of own party, never mind leader of commons
Raab: Needs a geography lesson
D-Davis: Makes Raab look clever

Who would you choose?

Clavinova · 14/04/2019 20:32

Really? You could just check the Treaties for yourself.

I could have - but the poster immediately before me said;
My area of expertise is constitutional politics - why not ask the expert?

My link was from The Guardian actually - they were quoting the DM from 1975.

Windowsareforcheaters · 14/04/2019 20:34

Parliament can moan all they want want

That would be our sovereign parliament? The Parliament we need to leave the EU to empower, that parliament?

Constitutional Politics. Well that's not the UK is it?

The lack of a codified constitution just makes it more interesting. It's a shame you aren't prepared to accept the challenge when you are happy to fling the insults. Pretty typical though.

Walkingdeadfangirl · 14/04/2019 20:34

FGS - what makes you think that is possible?

Because May has not tried this yet. Not once has she stood up to the EU. And if a new leader can't get us out of the EU then we need to elect a parliament who will. I have no doubt that a Brexiteer PM could piss off the EU so much that they beg us to leave.

You really are still one of the ‘they need us more than we need them’ brigade aren’t you walking
No actually I am not, I just want to leave the EU as we voted for, I dont care who needs who the most.

HateIsNotGood · 14/04/2019 20:34

No we are not back to 'feelz' Bear. If anyone is basing it on 'feelz' it's you.

I've just tried to explain to you quite carefully why I support WA and it has fallen onto a closed mind. I'm sorry for that, really I am, because I thought (them feelz again!) that you and I were moving towards finding a point of 'agreement'. I was wrong.

At least I can Leave this thread and get some work done now. Just one thing, why is it you support the EU but have learned nothing, yes nothing, about compromise and detante?

ContinuityError · 14/04/2019 20:37

why not ask the expert?

So that’s your agenda.

Windowsareforcheaters · 14/04/2019 20:37

I could have - but the poster immediately before me said

Well for the very simple reason @Clavinova I don't agree with you and it's not my job to make your arguments for you.

Ohhhhh the arrogance of Brexit remainers have to provide all the facts whether we agree with them or not.

Bearbehind · 14/04/2019 20:37

Because May has not tried this yet

Of course she has walking

When she was elected she pursued ‘no deal is better than a bad deal’ and then, when that didn’t work she begged the EU to remove the backstop and it has got her nowhere.

OP posts:
Clavinova · 14/04/2019 20:38

Surely - other than checking the passports of suspected criminals and terrorists - how do we control the immigration of EU citizens?

Does that mean that UK citizens cannot move to other EU countries freely? I thought that was the whole idea?

Windowsareforcheaters · 14/04/2019 20:39

the EU so much that they beg us to leave

I actually think the EU are more concerned about the British people than some leavers.

The EU and Tusk in particular have shown more concern for the British people than many leavers.

Bearbehind · 14/04/2019 20:40

hate this whole thread is about asking what the compromise is for - what is the point of pursuing Leave now we no it will never be with no deal.

The WA and following deal will be worse than we have now, for no tangible benefit.

What is the compromise for?

Because if it’s just to make people ‘feel’ better then no, I’m really not interested.

OP posts:
Clavinova · 14/04/2019 20:41

why not ask the expert?
If someone is crowing about their expertise - and I have a question - why not?

Walkingdeadfangirl · 14/04/2019 20:42

When she was elected she pursued ‘no deal is better than a bad deal’

Bollocks. 29th March she was offered an extension, all she had to say was NO. When the backstop was offered she signed it, she could have told them to stick it. Tell me one time has TM told to EU to get lost?

Bearbehind · 14/04/2019 20:43

clavinova we could have enforced rules on benefit entitlement and duration of stay, we just never bothered.

OP posts:
Walkingdeadfangirl · 14/04/2019 20:45

What is the compromise for?
The compromise is to stop EU elections, get Brexit started, to get TM to stand down so we can get a Brexiteer PM to short out this whole mess and get us properly out of the EU.
