Blue-Footed Booby

UnconsideredTrifles · 10/04/2019 12:44

DH and I were having a debate about whether the blue-footed booby was a well-known bird. I suggested posting a poll to FB, but we agreed that this would probably be biased, since people are more likely to respond if they have heard of it...

But here in the lovely world of mumsnet anonymity, AIBU to ask if you've heard of the blue-footed booby?

Yes, years ago, and the red footed booby!

Wingedharpy · 10/04/2019 12:47

Yes

KnittingSister · 10/04/2019 12:48

Yes, didn't know about the red footed booby tho!

Acunningruse · 10/04/2019 12:49

Yes but only because of the children's book, something like What Am I called?

Peccary · 10/04/2019 12:49

I've seen them, their feet are indeed quite blue

UnconsideredTrifles · 10/04/2019 12:49

The red-footed booby has a blue beak! That's a joyful thing I didn't know until today, thank you DeadDoorpost

You're called What?!

Hollowvictory · 10/04/2019 12:50

Yes off course, it's well known

polarpig · 10/04/2019 12:50

Yes, we've seen it on a lot of nature programmes.

OpportunityKnocks · 10/04/2019 12:50

Yes.

I've been lucky enough to witness booby rain in the Galapagos Grin

22Giraffes · 10/04/2019 12:50

Can't actually recall 'knowing' about it but when I saw the thread title I automatically thought it was about a bird so I guess I must know somehow!

WeeDangerousSpike · 10/04/2019 12:51

Yes. Known about it for years. Didn't know about the red one tho.

cakeandchampagne · 10/04/2019 12:51

Yes, but I am very interested in ornithology.

LimitIsUp · 10/04/2019 12:52

Yep, seen them on the Galápagos

ElizabethMainwaring · 10/04/2019 12:52

Yes. Not red footed though.

Strugglingtodomybest · 10/04/2019 12:53

Yes

TheDuckSaysMoo · 10/04/2019 12:54

Yes

FreezerBird · 10/04/2019 12:55

Yes, definitely.

DS is very into wildlife and his knowledge is encyclopaedic. I bought him (at the age of 14) that "You're called what?" book as a Christmas present knowing it would amuse him greatly.

NewGrandad · 10/04/2019 12:56

Thanks to John McCririck yes.

DeadDoorpost · 10/04/2019 12:58

You're welcome @UnconsideredTrifles 😁😁

I've just had a look online and learned there's more Boobys... and the Brown Booby has yellow feet.

CloserIAm2Fine · 10/04/2019 12:59

Yes because we have a game called Bird Bingo which we play with Guides occasionally (it’s a proper board game thing, not one we made up) and it always produces giggles.

zoellafortitude · 10/04/2019 13:00

Is that related to the blue-tit? Grin

BarbarianMum · 10/04/2019 13:00

Yes it's my favourite bird. I have a picture of one on my wall (eyes it fondly).

Movingfurniture · 10/04/2019 13:04

Yes absolutely.

Theweasleytwins · 10/04/2019 13:06
